  • "We had a wonderful few winter days at Eastview."

The location provides both a perfect setting off point for hill walking, as well as into Matlock center to the shops etc. We have large car - Ford CMAX, which fit snugly into the garage. The house is lovely, cosy, clean and well fitted out, with views over the valley. The kitchen has everything you need and the house has an cellar as optional drying room. Very helpful and responsive owners.

  • "The house is lovely and large and has everything you need albeit rather basic."

It’s clearly maintained by a cleaning company and needs a bit of TLC cleaning wise, you certainly don’t get the homely thoughtful touches that I have experienced at many other holiday homes. I think it should be made clear just how bad the parking is, there is a tiny garage which is situated on a blind bend, therefore particularly dangerous to get in and out of, but realistically most cars wouldn’t fit. The on road parking is a decent walk away uphill if you can get a space. The closest we managed to park was 5mins away, not great with 2 small children. Anyone with any mobility issues would struggle. The house is on a main road which was rather loud all night. If you want a basic stay and can get about easily or have a small vehicle which you are very confident driving then this house would be good for you!

  • "Gloomy house not enough lighting and bad decor choices."

Nowhere near enough utensils in the kitchen and the following is required: Scissors Sharp knives - only one provided Colander Potato peeler Proper tin opener and not the one out of the ark Measuring jug Fridge is too small and the door shelf was broken and fell out as soon as we put out milk in it. There were loose slats in one of the single beds and my 88 year old father- in- law said it was very uncomfortable as the mattress was slipping through the gaps. The house is not decorated to a high standard and it would be much nicer if there was more lighting and much brighter colours used for decorating. We didn’t like any of the furniture either. I was not impressed with being told to strip all of the beds and be out by 10.00 am

  • "Lovely spacious house, lots to see and do in and around Matlock."

Parking is tricky but can be managed.

  • "We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hill View, it felt like home from home."

What a beautiful home and an amazing find! So close to all the places we wanted to visit whether by car/ train or foot! The beds were so comfy too and we all slept very well, which can sometimes be tricky when it’s not your own bed, but that wasn’t an issue here! It was a lovely touch to leave milk and coffee etc, that was a nice surprise when we arrived! We will be recommending to our family and friends and we will definitely be back!

  • "Overall good accessibility to the town centre and other places to visit."

The lounge needs more sheeting given the cottage is for 6 people, the deter is tight for ( people and the single sofa arm piece is completely torn n sitting cushions uncomfortable. The internet connection was very poor so unable to access Netflix when relaxing in the evening. The mattresses in the 2 big rooms were uncomfortable, though the single ones in 3rd room were good. The bathroom shower curtains needed to be washed as stained at the bottom as were the grouting on the wall tiles. The kitchen was lovely though could do with a medium sized saucepan for cooking and a small vegetable knife would b perfect; otherwise , certainly an enjoyable stay..

Thank you for your comments, the armchair has been replaced. We do appreciate that mattresses are subjective and personal preference. The shower curtain has also been replaced and the grouting has been attended to. We are glad you appreciated the kitchen and thankl you for all your comments. Property Owner

  • "We had a very cosy and comfortable stay."

The house is in a good situation, with pubs, shopping and a park nearby, with plenty of activities for the children. We were surprised that there was no teapot but everything else we needed was there. Although our car just fitted into the garage, my son's car would not have, even though it is not a large car. It might be worth mentioning that it is a small garage. All in all, a very enjoyable few days.

  • "We’ve stayed in a lot of Sykes cottages over the years and yours was one of the nicest we’ve been in."

it was very thoughtfully decorated, really nice fittings in the bathroom, etc. The one suggestion is for the small bedroom: both of the people who shared that room said the mattresss of the main day-bed had a dip in the middle. I didn’t try it myself so I don’t know how bad it was, but you might want to investigate. We had a really lovely time though and would absolutely recommend East View.

  • "Lovely spacious house."

It had everything needed for an enjoyable holiday. Due to the elevated position the views were very scenic. Due to the age of the property it has a small garage on a bend. There is parking just up the hill outside terrace houses or just opposite the Duke William (pub) a short distance away .

  • "We loved our stay at East View."

The cottage was cosy but spacious and very well equipped. We ate in every evening and found everything we needed in the kitchen. The cottage is ideal for walking to Matlock and Matlock Bath. It is close to Bakewell and two good cycle trails along disused railway lines. Parking is a bit tricky but we managed to find somewhere close by to unload the car and our friends used the garage as it is more suited to a small car.

The house was very clean and tidy with everything that we needed included, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be coming back in the future.

  • "Really lovely cottage, nice and clean and very beautiful."

Perfect for a small family stay whilst visiting Chatsworth house. The only thing I would note is that the garage is very small, we had two cars and we could only fit in the small 1 series. But everything else was wonderful thank you for a lovely stay.

Such a great spot. Only had to drive twice. Once to do a food shop and once to visit Bakewell. Everything else was within a 30 minute walk. Just great.
