This latter point initially surprised us as Middleton is located right on the edge of the National Park, but once we were there we realized how easily we could get to all our favourite Peak District places, and to discover new ones too. The High Peak Trail, for example, is literally just around the corner, but we also found some great walks by turning off the trail and just following footpaths wherever they took us. The cottage facilities are excellent and our one slight disappointment was the absence of Wifi - normally we wouldn't have bothered too much but at the time we were there it was important to be able to access emails. The owner, Sally, is very nice. She was very welcoming and helpful when we needed help, but not at all intrusive. Thanks, Sally!

About the location
MIDDLETON NEAR WIRKSWORTH
Wirksworth 2 miles; Matlock 5 miles.
The former quarry and lead mining village of Middleton quietly nestles on a prominent hillside above the nearby towns of Wirksworth and Cromford, 6 miles from Matlock. The village is centred on a long main street which consists of two good pubs, before eventually winding its way down into nearby Wirksworth with a selection of shops and amenities. The surrounding countryside is a walker's and cyclist's paradise, with the disused High Peak Railway line close by, recently converted into The High Peak Cycle Trail and providing a fun day out for all. Nearby Matlock provides a good range of shops and pubs, whilst the many National Trust properties and museums throughout the area are not to be missed. A great location at any time of year!
Note: Babes-in-arms only.
