“The Miners Rest far exceeded our expectations.”

We have been married for 38 years and have travelled inside and outside the UK quite extensively over the years. We can honestly say that this cosy little find was the cleanest and most well appointed place we've ever stayed in! The owners, Rod and Helen were such a lovely couple, very hard working and extremely helpful in making recommendations of places to eat out and to visit. Two lovely slices of home made sponge cake greeted us on our arrival. ...

The quality of décor, furniture, electrical goods, crockery, cutlery and bed linen was top notch! Every attention to detail has been made by the owners. The beautiful little stepped garden at the rear was also an added bonus for an apartment. Helen has even incorporated a quaint home made fairy door and little visitors into the brick work. There a two local pubs within easy walking distance of the apartment, one of these offers a decent pub grub style menu the other is a small friendly local offering drinks only in such a quirky setting. There are plenty of nice restaurants and tea rooms within a short drive. We particularly liked Thailand No. 1 in Matlock, Cromford Tapas Bar and Parkys Eatery, also in Cromford, which does amazing cakes and afternoon teas. It's just a short drive to Matlock, Matlock Bath, Wirksworth, Cromford and Bakewell. We visited Chatsworth House during our stay which was wonderful with beautiful gardens and countryside. The views around and about everywhere are absolutely stunning and there are plenty of beautiful walks and places to explore. We will definitely return to this lovely apartment and will share our positive experience with our family and friends. Thank you Rod and Helen.

About the location

MIDDLETON BY WIRKSWORTH

Wirksworth 1.7 miles; Matlock 5 miles.

The former quarry and lead mining village of Middleton quietly nestles on a prominent hillside above the nearby towns of Wirksworth and Cromford, 5 miles from Matlock. The village is centred on a long main street which consists of two good pubs, before eventually winding its way down into nearby Wirksworth with a selection of shops and amenities. The village was the Silver Gilt winner for the National Village in Bloom awards in 2016 and 2017. The surrounding countryside is a walker's and cyclist's paradise, with the disused High Peak Railway line close by, recently converted into The High Peak Cycle Trail and providing a fun day out for all. Nearby Matlock provides a good range of shops and pubs, whilst the many National Trust properties and museums throughout the area are not to be missed. A great location at any time of year!
