  • "Lovely stay at The Bothy."

Very peaceful situation but great for visiting Sheffield, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and historic houses around the area. Everything you could want for your stay and a particularly comfortable bed. The wine, flowers and cake were a nice welcome.

With only sheep for neighbors it is a place to unwind and appreciate nature, ideal for guests who are not in a hurry. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, well equipped, warm and comfortable. The hosts are gracious and responsive, there were welcome food items, and beautiful flowers in all the rooms, upon our arrival. The surrounding area is lovely, providing plenty of very pleasant walks.

I always look for quirky places to stay and the bothy delivered in spades!... from the tranquility of the no neighbours (except for the sheep and cows) location amidst fields, to the three gates on the approach. We enjoyed the close proximity of the Peak District as well as the local area around Wortley and beyond, managing a day in York too. A great place to relax and unwind!

Everything was provided, the property was spotless upon our arrival - BIG thank you to John and Rowena for a fantastic stay. Even to e-mailing us the exact details of how to find the property before we set out. The bothy is very secluded, peaceful and quiet - the local wildlife is amazing too - the perfect place to both unwind and chillax. Plus it is ideally sited to tour around the local area. Lots of local walk details left in the book in the bothy which we found very useful. All in all - a superb holiday location. Can say no more than we will be back to Hollins Wood bothy in the future !! BIG thank you again to John and Rowena !!

It is very rural with a wide variety of wildlife literally on your doorstep. The amenities at the building are all one would desire. The village of Wortley has everything one would need. We would particularly recommend the Countess tea rooms where we had afternoon tea and/or lunch a number of times. The village shop/ post office and the farm shop were all very helpful. We used the Bothy as a base for visiting many of the local attractions. Hope to visit again.

There was an extensive, well laid out, easy to follow information pack which contains everything, but everything, you need to know. The bothy was the cleanest we have ever seen, maintained to a high standard. All told on balance it was a lovely located and appointed holiday let well managed to the highest standards with smart TV and flawless WiFi, the best we've known. So your isolation still has strong links to the outside world. The very minor limitations on services are no more than expected and indeed given the bothy's location and history are amazingly good. Bed was comfortable and gave a good nights sleep, shower and toilet facilities are fine. We didn't need to use the wood burner but imagine at colder times it would give the bothy an amazing cosy feeling. Only constructive comment would be the kitchen fittings. We usually do some self catering but the Lamona fittings supplied by Howdens are universaly accepted as the worst. They were adequate but barely. Didn't detract from a lovely time or stop us from going again but at some point they will fail after years of poor service! Saucepans, cutlery, crockery and utensils all good and well maintained. So all in all nothing really to fault this location as long as you like an escape from the 'madding' crowd.

What a find! It’s isolated, being only surrounded by fields, yet the village is only a short drive away. The owners sent us detailed directions, which meant we got there easily. On arrival, the cottage was clean, and warm, making it really welcoming after our journey. The welcome pack also provided everything we needed for a warm drink and snack, indeed exceeded what you’d expect to find. The shops can provide everything you need, and the villagers are all friendly and welcoming. The Wortley Arms serve fantastic food, so all in all, this is a great place for a getaway. It is beautifully decorated and it has everything that you need and more. To get to the property you have to drive through three gates and that, I found amazing. Not only it gives you a sense of security and protection, it also is very interesting and different to what your everyday life is about. The minute you enter the first gate, immediately it gives you that feeling of separation from everything else in the most amazing way. At the end of the day, that is what holidays are about. Experiencing new things. The owners of the cottage have also made every effort in preparing a very useful binder which has everything you may need. I loved the complimentary tea and cake accompanied by wine and milk which were all very thoughtful. Outside the cottage there are two separate seating areas which were excellent as at different times of the day, you get to enjoy the sun and different views. Also the bed was very comfortable and temperature was well controlled in the cottage. Thank you both very much.

Cosy and compact it may be but it is all there! Owned by friendly and helpful local people who gave us a great welcome with a bottle of wine, milk in the fridge and flowers in each room!!! The natives in Wortley village, nearby, are also friendly. There is a good pub doing excellent food and local beer, a really nice tearoom, a Post Office and General Stores plus a Farm Shop with as proper butchery counter... Lovely pies and great meat... good bacon and a lovely brisket joint to bring home for the slow cooker... Yum!!! You could stay here and have a quiet break, just walking locally and there are plenty of paths but then you'd miss all there is to see in this part of Yorkshire. 10 or so minutes away by car you have Stocksbridge with the new Fox Valley Shopping development with several good restaurants and plenty of interesting pubs locally to eat at. • "This cottage was excellent and was actually more attractive than the website picture suggested."

The cottage is in a lovely peaceful setting yet brilliantly located for all sorts of places of interest. The village has an excellent pub shop and tea rooms if you don't fancy venturing far and there are many lovely walks to be had too. On our arrival we found wine and locally made cake waiting for us -which was much appreciated after a long journey from the south. Another thoughtful touch was the excellent directions to the cottage which kept stress levels down! This cottage is difficult to fault and a credit to its owners.
