  • "Beautiful cottage."

Lovely location. Will definitely recommend to friends and family

  • "The fact that the enclosed garden is detached from the property should be made clearer in the amenities listing so you are aware at first glance."

Very misleading. The "few steps to the garden" are extremely steep and narrow the gate opens outwards so you are balancing on the top step when trying to open gate. The sofa throws were covered in hair from previous dogs, we took our own and washed the cottage ones. Throws should be changed between lets. Previous occupants had not washed 3 saucepans, again these should be checked. Parking is not easy, residents block spaces with traffic cones. The cottage is on a busy road (throughout week days) sleeping with bedroom window open meant waking early 5.30, due to this. Noise from quarry and heavy lorries going by regularly. Good walks from door, comfortable bed and sofas Kitchen well-equipped but a large bowl with serving spoons for salad/pasta is needed.

That in itself says it all. Couldn't want anything else, the cottage had everything we needed, quiet, clean and very comfortable We'll be booking to return as soon as we can Perfect winter retreat, thanking you

  • "Arrived after 4."

30pm as requested, as property being cleaned & prepped due to our day before booking. Cleaning issues - Floor dust / not cleaned behind furniture. Oven not cleaned - greasy & smelt when turned on so not able to use. Garden access issue - garden is accessed from steep stone steps which were difficult to use, as the shrubs next to the steps were overgrown. Cottage advertising info - there was no mention about the 24 hour machinery & truck noise from the nearby cement works, so sitting outside expecting rural country peace was hindered. Outside of the above issues we loved the comfort provided in the cottage.

Found the heating system very good and the cottage was never cold . Bedrooms have lots of space and we all slept well , beds very comfortable . Just one observation , no Tea Pot !! We have stayed in many cottages and have always had a Tea Pot

  • "Oh my goodness, was so cold outside but cosy toastie in the cottage."

Everything and more than we needed or expected. Even fresh milk, tea bags and chocolates as a welcome gift, thank you. We even booked a return stay before we left this break! Everywhere was spotless, the bed linen & towels devine There was even and iron and board if you get the urge, not that we did! See you soon thank you A&N

  • "Terrific cottage."

Looks small from the outside, but inside is spacious enough for four adults to live happily. Very well equipped throughout, large TV, comfy sofas, comfy beds, great shower, super warm and cosy. We loved our stay. Would I go back? Well I love being in a village that you can walk from and back to the pub, before returning to the cottage. Unfortunately due to its location, this isn’t possible. But if you don’t mind driving, then it’s an excellent base.

  • "Just. Simply."

Marvellous. Like a hug from a holiday let. Fabulous setting, a stones throw away from brilliant sights and experiences and offers all the comforts of home. Wonderful walks, very friendly neighbours and visiting Buxton was a delight. The accommodation itself is well arranged and the facilities considered and more than adequate, even for a family stay. We stayed for a month and could have stayed much, much longer. Very attentive hosts and great for our little furry friends. Really, really looking forward to returning as soon as we can. Thank you so much Owen and family. We are so happy with our stay.

  • "A lovely comfortable homely cottage with everything you could ask for."

Great area for exploring the beautiful surrounding towns and villages. Would recommend having a car. The neighbours are very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely come again. Thanks for everything

  • "After the first night I complained to you about the car parking outside this house: reference A69B6-21-EN, which soured our opinion of this property from the start."

However, that aside, the property was small, but clean and quite well equipped. Nevertheless, we found the immediate area disappointing, with dull, scruffy, uninteresting countryside and boring towns; we had to travel further afield to find things of interest. Unfortunately, after four days we received a message about our granddaughter being ill and decided to return home, so this won't go down as a particularly good holiday for us.

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. There is on street car parking as stated, I'm sorry you felt as though you weren't able to park there. The property is in the countryside, with lots of lovely walks, interesting nearby towns, and plenty of attractions to visit, we are also sorry the area was not what you expected. I hope your granddaughter is well. Property Owner

It was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Definitely would recommend it.

  • "This property was brilliant, we visited as two couples and two dogs."

The house was bigger than it seemed in the pictures and lovely and modern. The location of the property is great. Very close to buxton and other popular areas for visiting. Only thing to mention is the parking is on the road but this wasnt an issue for us as we managed to park right outside and the garden is not off the backdoor. You need to cross a track to get to the garden. It is not enclosed so if letting dogs out they will need to be watched.

  • "The cottage itself was lovely, all very modern and everything was there which was required."

It was in an excellent location being just 10 minutes away from Buxton. The owners went the extra mile leaving some milk and chocolates for us which was a lovely surprise. The experience with Sykes cottages was very good, very organised and easy. Can highly recommend and would use again.

  • "Lovely and cosy."

Plenty of amenities which were brand new and kept in good condition, very good to cook own meals. Walks from the front doorstep and close to drive to shops and pubs. The residents were very unhappy if you park on the road as specified you can (in front of their houses) even though it is a public road. So only park in front of the cottage or on the grass verge further down to avoid any problems.

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
