  • "Absolutely loved our stay only one complaint, a Cockrell that didn’t know what time it was and would cock-a-doodle-do sometimes at 3/4/5am."

But it made us get up and enjoy the day.

  • "Beautifully situated amazing surroundings, the farmers spoke, very friendly nice people."

The cottage was lovely (a recommendation would be keep cleaning products in there). We would thoroughly recommend this cottage

  • "If you want a quiet, out of the way place in a good location then this is ideal."

The roads to it are narrow and little used. Accommodation is comfortable with heating available with the turn of the thermostat and hot water anytime. Powerful power shower was nice. Kitchen enabled meals to be cooked every day. Owners are very helpful and pleasant and provided fresh eggs when you want them. The daily early morning wake up call from the cockerel ensured a full day was had :-)

  • "We have just spent a week at this lovely little cottage in the peak district."

The place was simply perfect. It is a working farm aswell and the animals are interactive and put a smile on your face when you open the door in the mornings. Marg the Pig, Tracy the turkey, George and Tina the sheep....there's plenty more with names

The cottage is superb and the owners are extremely helpful and friendly.

  • "Some of the descriptions on your website were innaccurate."

The property is detached but is described as semi-detached, and there was no covered outside dining area in a barn, as described.

  • "We had such a lovely stay in August."

The owners could not have been more helpful from the first welcome to the many recommendations of places to visit and eat out. My daughter loved everything about being on the farm and having so much space to explore plus making friends with the owners daughter was a lovely added bonus. We have already booked for April and can’t wait to go back. The cottage was lovely and spacious (5 of us plus our dog) and felt comfortable and homely instantly.

  • "We wouldn’t agree on the property managing 6 people to stay."

With only 1 bathroom, this would be a squeeze. Also the farmhouse needs a good clean unfortunately. Overall location is very pretty, but for what we paid for 3 nights to stay there, this seemed expensive for what it was

  • "A fantastic cottage, perfect for dogs and children as there is a play area on site, and walks from the doorstep."

My little boy loved seeing all the animals, and the owners were incredibly helpful. One of the best cottages we've stayed in!

  • "We had an amazing time!"

Thank you so much to Vicky for all your recommendations and involving us when feeding the animals. Our children loved getting back after each day out in the Peaks to see the animals and play on the farm. The farm is set within beautiful surroundings with loads to do. Walks straight from your front door and a small play area for children.

  • "The cottage is really cute and really deceiving, being a lot bigger then I expected."

The location is perfect for exploring either on foot from the door or via short journeys in the car. I would strongly recommend a visit to Hartingdon and the beautiful short circular walk from Hartingdon to Wolfscote Dale.

  • "Lovely setting, comfortable accommodation and friendly hosts."

We were the first guests of the season after the covid lock-down and there were a few things missing from the house, such as some sharp kitchen knives, but these were promptly fixed the next day by the friendly host. Definitely recommended.

Would definately return as so much to do in the area. The cottage is very rural but peaceful apart from the cockeral which we all found very amusing. Thank you for a lovely stay

  • "Location was fab, cottage was lovely."

However no communication from owners about anything no knock on the door to see if everything ok. One time we tried to knock their door (only a few hundered feet away) no answer despite cars being there.

Plenty of room, had everything you need. Met the hosts once, lovely that they were close by, across the yard if we needed anything. Loved the friendly chickens. Perfect location, will definitely be back.

  • "Directions to property were confusing and owner said that Sykes were responsible for those."

The first sentence (from Elton ...) was correct and sufficient, but it was followed by a series of superfluous directions obviously taken from Google maps or similar but with no start point so were actually meaningless. Please remove them. .

  • "What a fabulous cottage in an idyllic location with great owners who gave us a really warm welcome."

The gorgeous farm animals absolutely made our stay! The cottage itself was lovely with ample space for our family inside and out. Only feedback was the beds could have been a bit more comfy. Location wise was excellent; close to Bakewell and surrounding walks with walks directly from the cottage. We would come again! Thankyou

My grand daughter loved the animals. Would highly recommend staying here as it is ideal for walking and relaxing and I would stay again. Thank you Vicky, James and Fluer for a great holiday.

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
