"Absolutely lovely little cottage, just as described enough space for us the two children and dog!"
Spotlessly clean and tidy, fresh linen and towels all laid out ready for us, with cute little Christmas decorations up! The little courtyard out the back is lovely, we had our little frenchie with us and was more than suitable to pop him out to and would imagine lovely in the summer looking over the fields! Really close to Castletown where we visited Blue John Stone caves, and hiked through Peak District National park. Also close to so many little villages for pubs! We would definitely stay again if we were visiting the area! Thanks so much :) x
"I don’t think the cottage is dog friendly - the garden isn’t accessible from the property so it means putting the dog on a lead and standing with it whilst in the garden as the fence is very low so any dog could easily hop over and there are sheep in the field."
It would be good to make this clear - it’s a really nice cottage but not with a dog.
"Very comfortable cottage in a good location for exploring the Peak District."
Great value for money. No need to contact the hosts as everything went smoothly.
"Good location for many surrounding attractions."
Cottage is small but comfortable and easilly suitable for two people. Sun in back garden most of the day and a nice place to sit out. The pub is now a cafe and shop, 'The Olive Tree', opens at 10am, food is very good quality and would recomend sunday lunch! Parking for barn is on road which is double parked but didn't really cause any problems so long as you park sensibly.
"Lovely welcoming, friendly people."
"Great cottage, clean and tidy."
Good location for walking.
"Great location, lovely walks close by."
Cottage was very well equipped and comfortable. Neighbours and people in the village were very friendly and helpful.
"Great location for walking extremely peaceful cottages is clean and comfortable hope to be going back in the future"
"Parking is very tight, not helped by neighbours who park right to the limits of the drive opening."
One neighbour had four vehicles parked outside and opposite their home. This made it very hard to reverse out of driveway and turn in road. We had to park opposite the house and someway up the hill. Repacking car and roof box was awkward.
There needs to be a plunger in the house. The shower tray was blocked. Husband spent some time unblocking it.
No phone numbers in house for essential services etc. We did not need them but other visitors might.
Had hoped for some maps, info etc but appreciate these might have been removed because of Covid.
We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was good value for what was a fairly late booking having been let down by a late cancellation of another booking. We found plenty to do in the area without having to drive far. Would recommend to anyone looking for a simple, comfortable base.
"Lovely little cottage perfect :)"
"The cottage owners lefty’s a bottle of wine and a tin of chocs as it was Christmas."
thanks so much.
"I took my kids for a short break so that they could all spend time together at Christmas."
The cottage is the back half of a barn conversion. The neighbours are welcoming and willing to point out where the key is.
I didn't know what to expect so we took extra duvets and blankets, but inside is very warm with night storage heaters that belt out heat. So much so that we slept with the windows open in December! :0
I also took kitchen equipment, but again, this was supplied in abundance, with even a pizza wheel!
The wifi was easy to connect to and we managed to stream films using it.
Blue John Cavern, Mam Tor and Speedwell Cavern are within walking distance with excellent underground trips available.
We even bumped into Jarvis Cocker who had broken down just outside of Speedwell Cavern, which was a pleasant surprise for me, (if not Jarvis!).
We traveled 5 miles to Morrisons in Buxton, only to find out on the drive home that Chapel-en-le-Frith has an Aldi about 1 mile away.
The Wanted pub is 50 meters away and does an excellent Sunday lunch of turkey, beef or my personal favourite, lamb.
I don't normally go back to the same place twice, but I may take my parents as I think they'd love it too.
"No lovely cosy cottage, ideal for walking in Peak District."
"Great barn really comfortable and well placed to explore the peak district"
"A lovely little cottage in a great location, perfect for visiting all the Peak District sights."
Quiet, homely and just what we needed for our short family break.
"An ideal cottage for walking in the high peak or the white peak and for access into local places such as Buxton."
Beautiful views over the hills and it snowed on the morning we left!!
"A Return Visit."
. Rose Barn situated in the Hamlet of Sparrowpit is situated in the Perfect Location for the Enjoyment of High Peaks. The Cottage is Spotlessly Clean, Very Cozy and Comfortable with everything to meet your Living Needs. We will Return.
"Parking by side of house narrow and occasionally blocked by neighbour"
"Great little place that was very close to many fabulous walks."
...this was the big plus for us as well as being very warm and cosy
Absolutely no complaints xx
"A lovely, small cottage."
Has most facilities you will need. Fridge, not fridge freezer, so don't bring too much frozen food. Iron and ironing board.
While we were there the dishwasher did not even dissolve the wrapper of the dishwasher tablets, let alone dissolve the tablet itself. Needs looking into.
Be aware there is no soap etc. provided, but it didn't matter too much to us. There's a Tesco superstore 10 minutes drive away, northbound up the A6.
It's fantastically situated for visits to the Hope Valley; Castleton; Edale and the reservoirs, as well as being close to Buxton and the charming village of Tideswell and the stupendous walk across the hilltop from Mam Tor, also just 10 minutes away.
Had a great stay. No complaints. The TV is much newer than the publicity shots show, so HDMI may be possible (didn't actually check it, to be honest).
"Lovely cottage in a good location for exploring the Peaks."
Enjoyed the garden with views out over the countryside. The cottage was small but big enough for us and our 2 teenagers. Had a great weeks holiday.
"This cottage is a value priced cottage, and as such is great value for money."
"1. Blind in kitchen broken
3. Radio in lounge not working
4. Radio clock in bedroom not working
5. Hook on back of bathroom door broken
6. Loose/broken tiles on bathroom floor
7. Bulbs in kitchen and lounge blown
NO extractor in kitchen
Worst of all dirty items left in dishwasher!
"The cottage is charming, comfortable and well located for day trips in Peak District."
However, some renovations could be done to refresh the look, and fix little things that need to.
"Everything was fine about this place."
It's modest in sophistication but fully satisfactory for us.
"Great little cottage, good location for walking, very good price, only the weather let us down."
"Although this little cottage was clean, snug and well maintained we were alittle disappointed with its location."
The cottage itself is attached behind an end terrace meaning there is only one very small window (which overlooks the side of next doors house) in the lounge, we personally found this rather oppressing.
"The greeting was warm and welcoming from Debbie and her delightful daughter."
The cottage was excellent, warm, cosy, all mod-cons that you need and extremely well maintained and spotless. The location was totally perfect overlooking the peak district and a real treat after a hectic London working life. We took a couple of walks directly from the cottage door which was our plan for our two night stay. We even popped into The Wanted pub for a coffee and sandwich and our two dogs were very welcome, wish we still had proper community pubs like that down south! Thank you Debbie for a perfect rural break away from our hectic lives :-) Would absolutely return.
"Enjoyable, clean and comfortable and perfect for our party of 4 plus the dog."
Cannot wait for to go back.
"The cottage was excellent, location and views very good, very friendly neighbourhood and easy access to other locations."
Very nice dog friendly pub nearby.
"Lovely ,cosy, warm , well appointed cottage."
A new mattress would make it perfect.
Walked from cottage everyday
Local pub excellent
Fab break !
perfect location. clean, warm and cosy. lots to do nearby. just what we needed for our weekend away.
Would stay again.
"Small lounge and very small tv."
Towels were included but no mention of this was on the website. No off road parking unless you have a very small car. Doble mattress needed replacing as springs were felt when sleeping. Overall very clean and cosy
"Lovely property in a great location with easy access around the peak District."
Clean and fresh, with all facilities. I would definitely book this property again, dog friendly with small enclosed garden. Owner was very helpful even with a late night phone call upon arrival.
"The cottage location was wonderful with countryside all around and very convenient for Buxton and other little villages."
Friendly neighbours and good parking for a small car. Very cosy cottage, which was very quiet and peaceful. Plenty of countryside to explore and shops only a short drive away. Overall a lovely cottage and location.
"It was great that there were lots of walks straight from the cottage"
"A quiet relaxing time away for Christmas."
The cottage was warm and welcoming. We appreciated the effort that the owners had made in putting Christmas decorations up for us
"The cottage was a very comfortable, cosy base to explore the area."
We have been to several different cottages in the past and Rose Barn was one of the best we have stayed in.
"The Barn was situated perfectly for me and my partner and the views were lovely, for our first visit and rental of this kind we were over the moon."
Brilliant little cottage I would definitely stay here again!
"The cottage was cosy and the wonderful views outside and the peace and quiet made this a special holiday."
The location is ideal for sightseeing in any direction. The pub down the road serves good home made food. We loved the walks on our doorstep. Castleton being a short distance away is a good starting point for more walking and we had good meals in the selection of pubs on offer there. When we plan to come to the Peak District again we will definitely stay at Rose Barn. One of the best holidays we've had.
"A very homely cottage, with great views."
"Comfortable accommodation, great local pub, friendly neighbours and good walking from the front door."
"We enjoyed our stay in Rose Barn."
It is well situated near to Castleton and convenient for many other attractions in the Peak District. The local pub serves lovely pub grub which is a couple of minutes walk from the cottage. The views from the back garden were spectacular.
"We stayed at the cottage because it is our home area and we were visiting family and friends."
It was extremely pleasant and comfortable and we will certainly enquire if it is available when we need to visit home again.
"The whole area was beautiful, everything we could wish for."
Loads of walks, easy and difficult but all great. The cottage was warm and cosy and had everything we needed. It was within easy reach of many places for food and to visit. The weather was great so helped of course, it was all lovely. Thank you.
"Good position, lovely views."
One excellent double bedroom. Good effective heating.
"The Peak District is one of my favourite locations in the UK hence the reason I keep returning!"
I really like the peace and quiet, the long walks with my dogs, and exploring new things every day.
"The cottage was very comfortable and the weather was fantastic very exceptional for the time of year."
Plenty of good walks in the area. The pub was very friendly and had very good food.
"Great location, friendly neighbours and a lovely cottage."
"Location of property and amazing views."
Reasonably priced. Very cosy feel to the cottage, clean and nicely furnished.
"The cottage is as described on the website, compact and in a rural setting."
Good location and good amount of equipment in the accommodation.
"We loved the cottage, it was really well equipped and we could not fault what was provided."
Great holiday, ideal location to walks from the door.
"The cottage was warm and cosy, ideally situated for the Peak District."
"Great location and property very clean."
Would like to go back and stay for a longer period.
"The cottage was very cosy and well equipped."
Everything was provided. The scenery was outstanding. We had some lovely walks.
"The cottage was in a beautiful location, it was a very well kept cottage and the pub nearby was excellent too."
"We had a great week."
It was lovely to be right in the countryside and our girls found the little garden somewhere to spark the imagination. The cottage was a haven in the midst of our busy lives, I didn't want to leave!
"Cottage perfectly suited for walking in the area."
'Wanted In' highly recommended for delicious food.
"Great holiday, great location."
"The local scenery has to be seen and the best way to do that is by foot (& warm coat!"
