  • "The apartment was very comfortable."

By and large the kitchen was well-equipped but we did notice the absence of some equipment which would have made life a bit easier. There was no teapot or frying pan or milk jug. A tray would have made it easier to carry drinks down the four steps to the dining area from the kitchen without spilling on the carpet. However the location was excellent

The location is perfect for a small family wanting to be close to amenities, whilst on the doorstep of fabulous walks in the Peak District.

Found inside The Savoy, the apartment is part of a beautiful Grade II listed building just opposite the stunning Pavilion Gardens, with a public car park available to visitors right opposite the entrance.

Upon entering the building, you will find Apartment 1B, The Savoy on the ground floor, where you are welcomed by a spacious living/dining room; the lovely bay window brings light to the space, where you can share a family dinner at the table, or turn on the gas fire and catch your favourite evening shows after a day exploring Buxton.

Continuing past the kitchen, there is one double with fitted wardrobes and one small single room, as well as a bathroom with a large bath and shower over, where you can freshen up after a muddy walk in the countryside before heading out into town for the evening.

The Savoy has a shared garden with outdoor furniture for visitors to enjoy the surrounding plants, sunshine and fresh air.

Buxton itself is a historical town, dating back to the Roman era, with fascinating architecture built in the 18th and 19th centuries; local attractions include the Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank and The Opera House, alongside an abundance of shops and eateries to discover.

Set near to other lovely towns and villages, Tideswell lies to the east of Buxton, where you will find an attractive village with craft shops, pubs and the stunning Cathedral of the Peak.

A little further lies Bakewell on the banks of the river Wye, a bustling market town known for its local Bakewell pudding and scenic courtyards, as well as specialist markets and the Bakewell Old House Museum.

For a larger city, Sheffield is perfect for a day out as a family, where you will find Sheffield Botanical Gardens, lovely highstreets with independent shops and cafés to explore, and the Crucible Theatre to catch a live performance after dinner.

About the location

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
