Very clean and cosy. We loved the welcome package that was left for us on arrival it was a lovely surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Ardeevin Cottage to others.

  • "The property was beautifully presented throughout."

Plenty of room for 4 people. In an excellent position with a very short stroll into the town. There were some small areas in need of cosmetic attention but these would not prevent me from stay there again. There is parking outside the property, however, this is on a first come first served basis so at times we had to find alternative parking in the town. Again, this wouldn't stop us from staying there again.

Everything needed for a self catering stay was provided, in an ideal location for exploring the Peak District. Local Sainsbury's and Morrison's a short walk down the high street, plenty of places to eat, and parks nearby for the dog. Getting a parking space on the road wasn't an issue, but easier with a smaller car as the road isn't that wide.

It is in a good location to the town / shops / pubs / restuarants etc. We have really enjoyed our stay. It is exceptionally clean, comfortable and well maintained. The only negative I could find and its not the owners fault is the parking. There is not an allocated spot outside the property as you would believe. However, there is plenty of room if only residents used the spaces provided. We found people who work in the town or living in nearby properties parking there which was a little bit annoying.

Hello Gina, thank you for the great feedback. Unfortuantely with the holiday cottage being so close to town andon one of the oldest streets in Buxton - it wasn't really supposed to be used for motor vehicles - and more for horse and cart! The quality of the fit is generally lovely and the cottage is clean, warm and welcoming, providing a homely launchpad from which to explore the locality. Comfort wise the score is average because the two beds in the second bedroom are rather tiny and the sofa, whilst looking great, is rather uncomfortable with its scatter cushion back. HOWEVER, this is purely personal to our stay, children will find the beds in the second room perfectly adequate and others will find the sofa a joy. Overall, a fabulous cottage, well run, cleaned and maintained in a stunning part of the world.

Wonderfully spacious lounge with great quality, comfy sofa and huge TV. Very well equipped kitchen, sorry if you find all the sharp things moved higher up from our kid-proofing! Very thoughtful to leave a gift basket with bubbly, biscuits (eaten immediately lol!) and jam, plus milk and butter in the fridge, and cool packs in the freezer - what a great host! Would have preferred a washing machine to a dishwasher but that's just us with our one year old getting into all sorts of scrapes! Amazing king sized main bed, very comfy mattress and luxury sheets, and very nice to have very posh handwash in the excellent, super warm shower room (no bath, bring a little one for tiny ones). Thought the twin room would be better with bunk beds as quite small, but still a lovely room. We really enjoyed staying here and would highly recommend it. Thank you so much for a fantastic, relaxing stay.

Hello Claire. Thank you so much for the feedback. We do try our best to ensure our guests have a lovely stay in Ardeevin Cottage. Only negative comment is about the parking which is very tight on a first come basis. We drove around for 15 mins or so one day as parking restrictions in surrounding streets and ended up having to leave the car in a residential street away from the property. However the positives definitely outweigh the negative! Lovely place to explore the surrounding area.

  • "Accuracy of listing was a little ‘stretched’ - stating it has a garden / patio when it’s no more than an alleyway was a little disappointing."

You either need to include photos or not mention it. No blinds over the velux windows in the main bedroom was a major inconvenience - being woken up at 4ish each morning by the sunlight was frustrating. We asked the owner as to whether we were missing a button / process for the blinds but we’re told it hadn’t been a problem for anyone in the past - we found that hard to believe and upon reading the guest book, people had flagged this over a year ago. Also, traffic noise is a consideration - if you’re wanting a very quiet place, perhaps this isn’t for you. Some noise from lorries / cars throughout the day (and we’re from central London). Apart from this, a very lovely, well appointed cottage and we enjoyed our stay.

Hello Mr Rowland. You will be pleased to know that we have now installed blinds to the velux window. Since your visit, Sykes have returned to photograph the property again, and we now have a extensive album on the website. We can only apologise for the noise level you experienced- however with it being in the town centre, it does unfortunately have busy periods. We are so pleased you enjoyed the cottage. The cottage itself has been renovated to an excellent standard in every room. The only negative and that was only slightly was that the courtyard garden is very small and is mostly taken up with the 2 wheelie bins, you wouldn't want to sit out there. The owners have some lovely touches, providing handmade cakes, milk and prosecco for our arrival were top of the list. Towels, Linen and toiletries from The White Company did not go unnoticed. The kitchen equipment exceeded my expectations and all bases were covered. Including garlic press and a panini maker. I had packed dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and toilet cleaner and there was no need as everything was already there. If I was to make any comment it would be the lack of vacuum cleaner and mop and bucket. Myself and my daughter both have very long hair and I would have vacuumed upstairs had one been available. I would have also mopped downstairs during the week as 4 people and a dog for a week do tend to make mess however hard you try not to. The location of the cottage was perfect for us, we could eat out and go for drinks just moments away and were in the beautiful peaks within walking distance or a short drive. We would definitely come back to Ardeevin Cottage we loved it.

We can understand why Ardeevin cottage is so popular and would definitely stay there again! We enjoyed our holiday in Buxton and visited some places we have not been to before. The owners have left some useful information on places to visit if you are not familiar with the area. The Sykes website says off road parking. This is not correct and have mentioned this to Sykes, but they have not changed this at the time of review. The owners description says parking outside the cottage. This is on a first come first served basis. There were only two occasions where we were unable to park but found parking nearby, it was not a major issue for us. Everything in the cottage was to a high standard including cleanliness. The one disappointment was the ability to park anywhere in the road leading to the cottage. We were unable to park when arriving and on several occasions during our stay. I think in the cottage information it should state that it is situated on a single track road with very limited parking. We found that at least two cars were parked outside the cottage and they never moved all week, there are only a further two spaces on the road available, these spaces were for a number of properties any seldomly free. In our information pack it states “roadside parking outside cottage” and this was never the case”

The cottage was lovely, with quality decor and fittings. Very close to the town center, food shopping, eating out etc but also close to walks on the moors. The owners were thoughtful, leaving milk and a few treats and offering a later check-out on New Years day which was really appreciated.

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
