  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

The apartment was well appointed with some lovely touches like milk and biscuits. We were very warm and comfy after some rather wet exploration of the Dales!

Nicely located and friendly hosts. You were made to feel welcome, heating was on for us on arrival which very rarely happens anywhere. I would definitely return at some point. Only comment I would make was that the mattress was getting a bit tired and not the most comfortable but everything else was perfect.

  • "Lovely little bedsit on a nice farm, very pleasant hosts."

Accommodation had everything we needed for a relaxed week of gentle walks with our greyhound. A fenced/walled path around the farm is perfect for morning and evening strolls with a dog, with a lot of interesting things for them to sniff! The local paths outside of the main farm are on farm land so have walls/stiles which you may need to lift dogs over. Plenty of other walks a short drive away are more accessible. Inside, the property was in good condition - everything worked as it should and the well equipped kitchen was clean with nice appliances. Really minor thing for most people, but bins: Glass, composting, paper/cans/plastic and non-recyclable, which was nice! Andrew, the host, kindly kept the giddy farm dogs calm and out of the way of our nervous rescue hound when she was out on the farm, and that was very much appreciated. Great hosts, great accommodation, great area, great walks, great week to unwind and relax.

Very welcoming and very willing to share their local knowledge, ensuring we had a great time. The directions to the cottage were clear and concise and the welcome pack of tea, coffee and biscuits was more than welcome after our long trip up. The cottage itself was warm and comfortable and beautifully equipped. I'd strongly recommend these hosts to anyone wanting a quiet break but not be too far from the facilities of Buxton and the cycling trails.

We loved our stay, the only thing that would stop us coming back with the dogs is having an enclosed front garden/ area onsite to take the dogs to toilet/ run around. I think the locals didn't like us with flash lights going down the track, we got some funny stares a few times. Other than this we will definitely be back for a long weekend without the dogs to visit the local caverns and places which are easier without pooches!

  • "Lovely little cottage."

Clean, warm and cosy. Had everything we needed.. There were only two issues for me, one was the space round the bed which was very tight for people, like myself, with mobility issues, The other was the TV/Freesat system. It took ages to switch it on with the two remotes. Otherwise no complaints and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The cottage is very well equipped to self cater and relax. You can enjoy a drink and a book very easily on the patio or just watch the world go by. The location allows you to really explore the Peak District easily and with Buxton a mere 2 miles away it's easy to pick up supplies in the many shops and supermarkets. • "The journey we had to get there, was quite precarious to say the least!"

We ended up driving the back way apparently to Cowdale Hall Farm, in Cowdale, Buxton! where there were no signs at all at the bottom of this very steep hill that our car being small only just got us there. That was my only criticism, which I informed the farmer about! Also, I was completely unaware we were staying on a farm! The advert for this endearing lovely place does not advertise it as being on a farm! As quaint and lovely as it was. The people running the place were friendly and welcoming.

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
