  • "A small but well appointed cottage."

The only problem we had was that the sitting area was cold in late afternoon even if heating turned up. The bedroom was warmer than the sitting room. (Our stay was late November and it was cold out). Also although there was a pub with walking distance the only food they served during the week was pizza which took an hour to come. The cottage permits pets which is great but there is no greenery within walking distance to let your dog out for his calls of nature so as others have commented it is not very good for dogs.

  • "This is a great little cottage."

It is comfortable, well equipped and in a very good spot for access to all the great visiting places in the Dales. The decor and facilities in the cottage are lovely and the enclosed back garden is a real bonus. Good walks from the doorstep and the best Fish and Chips a short walk from the cottage. Would highly recommend.

  • "The holiday rental was clean to the eye but I can only assume the previous occupants had done a lot of frying of food as there was grease on the back of the hob and the cupboards to tue side."

I gave them a wipe over. The downstairs flooring was also pretty grubby when wearing white socks. Also it would be useful to have more than one spare bin liner, thankfully I had a spare one in my car. We stripped the beds when we left as requested but couldn’t find the bags to put the dirty laundry in. Other than that the house was great. Beds were very comfortable. An extra hand towel for the bathroom would also be handy.

  • "Lovely cottage although we shouldn’t have to struggle shuffling rubbish about due to lack of provided bun bags."

Also no recycling provided or details. Disappointed to see the village shop prominently listed on the cottage information pack shut down in March so should be removed in future. The cottage was in an ideal spot although parking can be tricky. Lovely local walks and plenty of sights to see to make it an enjoyable break.

Central for so many walks and visits to the local towns. Amazing curry cottage at doorstep and lovely local pub the moon inn.

We also enjoyed the pub nearby and had amazing fish and chips from the Toll Bar. We met lots of friendly locals too. Would definitely go back again.

Extra precautions taken due to the current COVID 19 situation to help keep everyone safe which did not hinder the enjoyment of our holiday. Perfect quiet location to enjoy surrounding beauty spots and attractions, would definitely recommend.

But the cottage itself was brilliant. The bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.

  • "This is a lovely property in Stoney Middleton."

A great location for visiting The Peak district. The property is on a steep hill as others have mentioned so walking and parking may cause difficulty, but this did not for us though. Willow View has a lovely warm atmosphere in the property and has been renovated to a high standard. We will return as we felt really at home here.

  • "The cottage is on a very steep hill."

You will not get parked outside the cottage as the people who live there put their cars outside the property. you either have to park down the hill, or up the hill which is a bit annoying.

  • "Lovely little cottage in a great location."

Beautifully clean and well equipped with everything you would need for a self catering break. Super comfy beds and plenty of storage in the bedrooms. Bakewell is only a 10 minute drive away, and there is a large Spa shop only a few minutes drive away. Highly recommend the fish and chip shop a short walk from the cottage, absolutely delicious! The Old Eyre pub between Bakewell and Stoney Middleton is also worth a visit, dog friendly and great food.

  • "Cottage was perfect."

Only issue for us was the on street parking when we were out until late, but there is a public car park opposite the Lover's Leap garage which is only a brisk 10 minute walk away and as a bonus takes you past the excellent Toll Bar fish & chip shop.

  • "Because of the steep hill the cottage is on it would be hard for older persons, steps down in the entrance as well which do not show on viewing the web but apart from this to be known the cottage is very comfortable and very well equipped."

A good area to get to many sites and eating places. One comment which I would like the owners to have is, The front door has a wonderful seal to it and can see it needs it to keep weather out BUT with such a small grip to pull the door open even I as a life time farmer with big hands had a problem opening the door, my wife could not manage, just a simple handle to grip and the other hand turning the key is all it needs. We were very happy with our stay and would certainly use it again.

It is quite spacious - lovely big main bedroom with vaulted ceiling and huge comfy bed. The cottage is very well equipped and clean. There is a great pub at the bottom of the road just a minute away and good chippy and Indian in the village too. A great base for exploring the beautiful Peak District. Loads of scenic walks nearby.

  • "This wonderful cottage was a 'home from home' during our short stay."

The owners have thought of everything to ensure everyone's comfort. From the exceedingly comfortable beds, with goose feather duvets to the well equipped kitchen. The cosy lounge was provided with a variety of games and pastimes to suit every age and with a multitude of books and local maps. The log-burning stove was one of the most efficient that we have experienced. We were glad of it during our Winter break. Our stay was cut short unfortunately due to the severe weather, 'the beast from the east' threw its full weight at us and so we left the cottage a day earlier than expected. There was a possibility of being 'snowed in', and then overstaying our allotted time. However should this have been the outcome we would have been extremely comfortable. We have all agreed to return to 'Willow View' later this year when the weather is more favourable.

About the location

STONEY MIDDLETON

Eyam 1.5 miles; Bakewell 5.5 miles; Chapel-en-le-Frith 14 miles.

The lovely village of Stoney Middleton is set in between some spectacular Derbyshire scenery, with Middleton Dale just beyond and the fantastic Froggatt Edge very close by. The village is surrounded by some of the prettiest countryside in the Peak District, including The Dale which provides some wonderful rock climbing, cycling and walks following the medieval packhorse track; known locally as Jacobs Ladder this can be walked from the centre of the village passing through Stoney woods and provides wonderful views of Curbar and Froggatt Edge in the distance. Stoney Middleton has an interesting past including the story of heartbroken young Hannah Baddaley who is said to have jumped from Lover’s Leap, at the top of Middleton Dale, after being spurned by her love. A visit to Eyam, just northwest of Stoney Middleton, is a must to see how parts of the village have been kept as they looked several centuries ago, such as the plague cottages, the church and Eyam Hall, a beautiful 17th century manor house with delightful gardens, craft shops and tea rooms. Above the village lies Eyam Moor, a fine area for walking, with fantastic views across the Derwent Valley, with its many Bronze Age remains and monuments. Visit Bakewell, a picturesque market town which holds a market every Monday and the home of the world famous Bakewell Pudding. Explore the mysterious caverns of Castleton, the elegant spa town of Buxton or enjoy the many stately homes on offer such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, to mention a few. With Alton Towers, Britain's premier theme park, only a short drive away, this is an ideal base for all the family.
