"It is a very well appointed cottage and the owners are both very approachable and friendly."
In the cottage there was lots of room for both me and my dog. The kitchen had everything I needed and the bedroom was a good size with plenty of hanging space. The bathroom has a good shower and overall it is very warm in the cold evenings. The welcoming bottle of wine, biscuits and treats for my dog were inspired. As others have said, the only let down is the sofa which is very uncomfortable, it just seems to be the wrong size & has no headrest. Otherwise perfect and a place I would definitely return to.
"The cottage was both very comfortable &cosy."
Very well maintained as well as quite.will visit again
"Lovely comfortable stay"
"A great stay for a week as a family of four."
The hosts are on hand if needed and are very polite and friendly, they let our kids use the garden and trampoline & stroke the dogs which were the highlight of their time away. The setting on a working farm may not be the prettiest but for the amount of time we were in the cottage it really didn't matter, it was a great base and only a 5 minute drive into Matlock. Inside was clean with the basic facilities you needed and it felt homely. We would return again.
"This is a high spec holiday cottage, rustic style interior, located about 100 yards off the A632, on a farm, with friendly owners always at hand."
It is quiet, with plenty of parking space. The living room is small but adequate for a family with 2 children. The kitchen is sizeable and well equipped. The bedrooms are a good size, with additional hand basin in the 2nd bedroom.
"The owners of the cottage were amiable, and so was Jess the Jack Russel dog of theirs, we got lost going to the cottage but 1 phone call and we had the directions on how to get there, the cottage was clean bright, and airy."
there are a lot of walks about, both short and long. Matlock Town Centre is only 5 minutes away, I must recommend Matlock Fish and Chip shop, very tasty.
"Great place to stay in a good position to explore the Towns and Villages around the Dales, close to Matlock and plenty of Pubs and takeaways a short drive away."
Nice little cottage with good facilities People were nice and we and our Terrier enjoyed the twice daily visit from Jess the Jack Russell. Nice dog walks right out of the farm and nice shared garden. ( make sure Dog on lead as not secure, but no problem just common sense) The only thing we did'nt find so good was the not too comfy low backed sofa in the living room. Apart from that we had a really nice stay here and would highly recommend.
"The cottage was ideal, it was cute and cosy, clean and well equipped."
The location was great, quick drive into town, bus stop at the top of the drive and nice walks around the cottage. The only downside for us was that dogs aren't allowed upstairs and it didn't say this anywhere in the information, so we didn't know until we got there by which time it was too late. We have an anxious old boy who would have been deeply distressed to be left downstairs on his own in a strange place, so one of had to sleep on the sofa each night. Apart from that it was lovely, owners left a few bits for us and the dog, which was a nice touch, and it was very welcoming. Definitely recommend it!
"Rambler's Cottage is a charming 'home away from home'."
From the welcome pack for both me and my dog, to the friendliness of all on the farm, I cannot fault my stay at the cottage. My stay was made all the more 'homely' by my twice daily visits from Jess the Jack Russell who came in to check that we were looking after the place and having a treat at the same time! The knowledge of the area shared by Stuart was so useful and helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for him or Janet and it was lovely to hear about their lives and livelihood as well as their extensive knowledge of places to go and things to do. Communication with Clare (the owner) was great and again, nothing was too much trouble - I look forward to visiting again.
"A lovely cottage, very comfortable and spotlessly clean."
A real home from home. Friendly owners and very accommodating. Good place for dog owners. Will definitely return.
"A lovely comfortable, cosy and clean cottage in a quiet but convenient location."
Owners very friendly and helpful, with lovely dogs. Nice walks straight from the cottage. We hope to return sometime.
"We had a lovely stay."
Location is spot on for accessing the various sites around the Peak District. Cottage was spotless and had all the equipment and facilities you need. Very quiet at night which was lovely.
"Generally, the property lived up to expectations, with one important reservation."
The kitchen & bedrooms were excellent, well equipped in the case of the former, extremely comfortable for the latter. As three older guests, the disappointment was the lounge, where the furniture, comprising a large dining table and four chairs accompanied a large, low-backed, deep-seated sofa and low chair which were made uncomfortable, by not providing good back/head support and in the case of the sofa, proving difficult from which to get up. That said, our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful, providing delicious wine and shortbread on our arrival. This area of the Peak District is unsurpassed for its beauty and places of interest and we will happily rebook!
"Great place to stay and cottage had everything we needed and was also very clean ."
The location was ideal to visit anywhere in the Peak district . We would certainly return however the only criticism would be the settee was uncomfortable and very low. The welcome pack was lovely so thank you so much for that .
"Lovely cosy warm cottage, great location, wine, biscuits and dog treats, had been left for us, a very nice touch, will definitely visit again."
"We had a lovely time at the cottage hiding away from the storms!"
So comfortable. Warm and cosy. All the essentials and a few extras. Lovely touch with a bottle of wine, biscuits and even treats for the dog! Will definitely return and highly recommend to anyone. Thank you for a lovely stay
"A lovely cottage tastefully decorated with helpful owners."
I need to say at the outset that our booking was probably not a typical one. Since the beginning of the first coronavirus lockdown my wife and I have sought out some of the most isolated holiday lets in south Derbyshire to spend time with our daughter and family who live between Derby and Nottingham. Being away from crowds in a rural location seemed to us the safest option for a short break.. This means we did not use many of the facilities provided.Simple breakfasts and microwaved suppers sufficed as we ate with our family for most of the time. The cottage was clean and absolutely as described. All the facilities we used worked well and the owners were very helpful. For parents with young children there is not a lot for children to do on site outside of the house as it is only about 100 yards from a busy road and the farm is a working farm. However Matlock itself has much to offer for children with a wonderful park including a skate park. The only negative about the whole stay was the temperature on arrival. It is a typical stone built farmhouse with thick walls which take a while to heat up so the central heating needs to be turned up a couple of hours before guests arrive in winter. I would recommend this cottage for anyone wanting a quiet, clean well decorated place to stay.
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and also having the chance to talk to the owners."
Well equipped, but we did wonder whether there used to be a milk jug that had got broken. Thank you for the welcome--and the after care service, returning to a couple of items left behind!
"Very friendly and welcoming hosts."
We stayed for a week; the cottage was lovely and the location is ideal to explore the Peak District and it's many attractions.
"My 95-year old Mum and I had a fantastic four days in this cottage, made all the more special for her by a long-lost connection to Stuart's aunt."
He and Clare were lovely hosts, warm and friendly and on hand to help, if needed. It's a beautifully decorated, well-equipped cottage, with comfortable beds and a large television (great for watching the football!), in a really convenient location for Chatsworth and all the attractions the Peak District has to offer. Will definitely return, if we get the opportunity.
"We had a truly relaxing week at Rambler's Cottage."
The cottage was super clean, very comfortable and well equipped for us and our spaniels. Our hosts/family were available and helpful if needed and it was great to get some local insights. Footpath through the farm provided easy access to lovely walks for the dogs and it is generally a lovely area to explore. Could not have asked for more and exceeded expectations!
"Ramblers Cottage was a perfect location to explore the Peak District It was comfortable and cosy and the owners were lovely."
We had a great time. I would highly recommend both the accommodation and the area.
"The cottage was very comfortable and clean."
It was well situated for exploring the surrounding area, Matlock and Matlock Bath being a couple of miles away. Also there were some lovely walks from the cottage. We had a wonderful week.
"What a fantastic cottage."
Ideally located for exploring the Peak District. The cottage is very well equipped - there was even a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge and dog treats for the pooch! Really enjoyed our time here.

"Was the perfect location for a little family break."
Cottage was very homely and comfortable and the owners very friendly. Our 2 year old son loved the fact we was on a working farm watching tractors and got offered to sit in the combine. Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton only a short drive away. We would definitely stay again as there is so much more to explore.
"A lovely, comfortable holiday cottage with everything included."
Four of us stayed and there was plenty of room. A short distance from the town of Matlock, and ideally placed for lots of local attractions, including Chatsworth. Lots of lovely walks in the area and one going through the farm as well which was enjoyable. A helpful list of local walks and attractions was also provided in the cottage along with some welcome provisions. Would recommend this property and thanks to the owners for an enjoyable stay.
"We had a lovely stay at Ramblers Cottage."
It was very homely and comfortable. The treats upon arrival were very much appreciated and the owners very hospitable throughout our stay. The garden was an added bonus for our dog to play in and our daughters loved meeting Betty, Jess and Ruby. The cottage itself is an ideal location for many beautiful walks in the area. We booked this as a last minute holiday, as our foreign trip was cancelled, and we are so pleased we did. We would highly recommend the cottage to anyone and should we ever have another ‘staycation’, would certainly look at staying again. Thank you to the owners for such a nice stay.
"Very pleasant cottage, which provided a great base for exploring the area."
The family were very friendly and the girls loved making friends with the dogs Ruby and Jessie.
"You definitely need your own transport because it's out of the way"
"Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming, even Jess the dog made friends with our dog Pippa and called for her to play!"
The cottage was immaculate and well equipped. The area was beautiful and near to a lot of attractions. Definitely would book again.

"Excellent base for exploring the Peak District, Cottage was comfortable and clean and the family are very welcoming we would definitely go back with our two dogs who had a great time on all the lovely walks."
The main road not far from the cottage is very busy, noisy at times and the national speed limit so be wary with your dog as cars do not hang around!!
