  • "Very beautifully furnished, well equipped and well provisioned cottage in a great location."

One of the best places we've ever stayed. We loved it visit here. While it was basically very clean, there were a few areas that would profit from the attentions of a more professional cleaner. Nothing that was at all troubling though. Floors, counters bathroom were all perfect.

  • "Barr Cottage has been really thoughtfully done up giving lots of lounge space downstairs."

Lovely decor throughout with everything you need. Good kitchen/diner upstairs which is handy for cup of tea in bed! Bathroom spacious and everything worked. Bedrooms are small but adequate. The only wardrobe space is in the twin bedded room which in turn doesnt have much drawer space. Ok if you are all family sharing. However mattress in double room was so hard I couldn't sleep. For anyone who has back problems this might be an issue. I ended up sharing twin room with my grown up son where the beds were slightly better...not in the holiday plan! It rather spoilt my time there. Very steep steps up to sitting area in garden but a lovely spot to sit in with visiting cats. Cottage overlooks a paddock with a couple of sheep which is lovely. Tideswell is a bigger village than I imagined, worth the hour long walk (details in cottage). Star pub close. Very popular so need to book in August. Good food. Coop available for essentials but local shops not open mon tues wed. Good cottage, good location.

Cottage was a little grubby around the edges (some kitchenware unclean, cobwebs on staircase & mould around bath sealant) and the garden area is up a very steep staircase. No welcome pack for us unfortunately either.

It’s a super little place, clean, comfortable, well appointed and really homely and moments into the centre of beautiful Tideswell which we really fell in love with. This is an ideal place from which to explore this part of the Peak District on foot and in bikes, and a lovely place to come home to. The one slight difficulty was there was nowhere to put our bikes so we left them locked on the back of the car when not in use which seemed to be ok.

The cottage is in a great location, Tideswell is very central and there are some stunning walks literally on your doorstep. Definitely recommend the Chee Dale walk which is (hard work) but stunning! Our 2 year old and 5 year old loved it. The cottage was clean and well presented but could do with some modernisations in terms of the TV- there was a DVD player but due to covid restrictions they don’t have any DVDs. We brought some from a charity shop which was fine but would have been good to be able to log in to Netflix/Amazon through the TV. Other cottages we have stayed in have smart TVs so this simple upgrade would have made a big difference for us. Otherwise a great stay!

There are 4 pubs in the village and we can recommend The George Inn which we ate in twice, The horse and Jockey which we ate in once (homity pie and veggie lasagne delicious) and the closest The Star which we also ate in once, (the veggie pie was delicious) We found all pubs very friendly and the food was really good (often hard to find being vegetarians). There is also a bistro with a very good veggie/vegan menu but with the random opening times we didn't get to try it. The cottage was well stocked with everything we needed and the patio garden spaces were lovely with gorgeous views. We personally don't feel the need for a bidet in the bathroom although the bathroom was a good size and modern. The only downside for us was the traffic noise early in the morning from about 5 a.m. We didn't realise the cottage was on one of the main roads through the village. We had the window open as it was warm at night and the lorries seemed to thunder past so unfortunately although the bed was comfortable we didn't sleep very well. All in all we would recommend the cottage if traffic noise doesn't bother you and we would definitely return to Tideswell.
