The plug hole in the shower was blocked and generally the property needs some maintenance. Apart from the above a great location but was never able to park outside the property..

Thanks for your feedback. It would have been useful however, to have messaged me during your stay if there were any maintenance or cleanliness issues rather than leaving it until after you have left as your comments are very general. I provide my number and my email address for guests so that I am to resolve any issues straight away. On road parking is stated in the info before you book. There are plenty of parking options nearby. No one has even complained about this. Property Owner

The location was great, the village has plenty of pubs, shops and food options! Plus we never had to drive too far to explore the likes of Buxton, Bakewell, Castleton! The cottage was so cute and perfect for what we were after, well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and lots of games and entertainment for those rainy days. Luckily we had good weather and we’re able to enjoy the garden too and had a nice bbq, a little steep but we stuck to the first two levels which was plenty of space for us and the pup. We would book again! Thank you :)

  • "This cottage is in a fantastic location, next to three pubs, two chip shops, a bakery and a couple of cafes and a co-op."

The village is lovely and quiet which we loved. The cottage was nice, clean and fairly comfortable. We weren’t aware that dogs couldn’t go upstairs when we booked it and had we known wouldn’t have as our dog sleeps upstairs with us and he wasn’t happy being left downstairs. The bathroom space was a bit restricted and my husband is tall and struggled with the space for the toilet. Also the staircase is very steep and with the bathroom being downstairs could be a little hairy for older people and young children if they need to use the toilet at night. The beds were comfortable and warm. I found the pillows from the smaller room better so ended up using those. Just personal preference though. The kitchen was perfectly adequate for our needs but it could do with a few more mugs. I feel the dishwasher is unnecessary as there wasn’t enough crockery to warrant using it. It could do with some more over trays as well as the one in there was small and the food stuck to it. The garden is extremely steep and not suitable for children or elderly at all. So keep that in mind if booking. Overall we had a nice stay but probably wouldn’t stay in that cottage again due to the fact our dog can’t come upstairs with us.

  • "Whilst this cottage suited our requirements and our two dogs, we were extremely disappointed with the obvious lack of cleanliness from the changeover."

We did raise our concerns within the first half hour of our arrival with Sykes, but to date have not had any feedback……..? We are pet owners and realise it’s a pet friendly cottage, but there was a very unpleasant dog odour on arrival. The cushion covers on the two sofas were dirty and damaged and should have been removed or washed before changeover. There was an obvious layer of dust on the lounge windowsill, drip marks on the coffee coaster and dust and dog hair behind both sofas. There were also dirty splash marks on cupboard doors. The garden should be more user friendly - a horrible outdoor mat thrown on the garden, rotten meat on the patio. There were no garden furniture cushions that we could find and the bbq and seating area was untidy. We have stayed in many holiday cottages and the level of cleanliness for a four star property was completely unacceptable.

Thank you for your feedback. Your comment regarding no contact is untrue. You were offered a full refund if you decided that the cottage was not to your satisfaction and left. I checked with my cleaner as soon as I heard you were unhappy (this was as soon as you had called). She guaranteed me that it was clean so I requested photos from you as evidence asap, before I committed to disrupting her weekend to come back for a potential re-clean for you. You did not send any photos. In fact I did not hear from you again all week. Despite this apparent lack of cleanliness and the opportunity you had for a full refund/ a re-clean, you chose to stay. You also arrived 2 hours before check in time and because I am full of goodwill to my guests, and I allowed you in. You complained that the brand new TV wouldn’t work. There was nothing wrong with it. Guests before you and after you had no complaints. The TV is always checked at changeover too and was fully functional. You say the cottage smelt of dog. There are no carpets downstairs and the sofas are leather. Dogs are not permitted upstairs. The cottage did not smell. You complained you could not find garden cushions. In the welcome pack that you were emailed before arrival clearly states where to find them. In fact they are so easy to find even without this info. I do thank you for your feedback, however, as it has enabled me to make the relevant checks which confirmed to me, that my cleaner and the facilities for an old, quaint, village-centres stone cottage are good. Thank you for your feedback. The freezer you mention is actually a fridge freezer so this cannot be removed as a fridge is much needed in self catering accommodation. Re the washing machine - this is not listed in the cottage description. The owner had left us a bundle of treats, including wine, chocolates and biscuits, whcih was very kind of her. We had a lovely holiday with long walks, followed by a good night's sleep on comfortable beds. Good fridge and freezer space and warm water. Please note that the stairs are steep and care needs to be taken when coming out of the bedrooms (as you are straight into the stairs). We are very grateful to the owner for allowing us to take our dog, as this is the make or break for us in choosing a cottage. She rightly has 'doggy rules' such as no dogs upstairs. I would recommend this cottage to all, but if you do visit, please do respect the owner's wishes of no dogs upstairs. I understand from the owner that some have not been respecting this rule and I would hate for this to ruin things by dogs not being allowed in the future. Please remember it is someone else's home and respect it as you would respect your own.

Easy parking. Cottage is quite small and has difficult steps, both in the garden and in the house, so not really suitable for very young children or the elderly. • "+s - Great location in the village - good selection of DVDs and games - easy to park -s - cleanliness of cottage was poor."

We complained and was offered a re-clean but we declined as all our stuff was unpacked by that time and we wanted to relax. - Photographs are out of date. Cottage is very tired and needs a re-vamp. - BBQ hadn’t been cleaned so we could not use it. Apparently it is the responsibility of the previous guest to clean it so be warned if they don’t do it, you either have to clean it yourself or not use it. - cottage is very small. It would be very cramped for 2 couples and a dog. - Dogs are not allowed upstairs so if your pooch likes to sleep in your bedroom, that’s not permitted.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm very disappointed to hear that you were not happy with the cleanliness of the cottage. In well over 200 bookings I have not ever had any comments apart from how clean the property is. I highly value and respect my cleaner and have seen first hand the excellent job that she does. I can only apologise for the one strand of my cleaner's hair that you found upstairs and the small mark on one of kitchen chair cushions. I did offer two re-cleans where I would have happily rectified both issues for you straight away but you declined both of these offers. In my welcome information which I emailed out to you before your stay I ask that you let me know directly if there are any issues so I can resolve them ASAP as the comfort of my guests is paramount. You did not raise these issues directly with me at any point despite having my contact details. You only contacted Sykes asking for a full refund despite being offered re-cleans on two occasions. You were also offered a refund twice should the cleanliness of the cottage contribute to an early departure date. You declined this offer and continued your holiday for the whole week despite continuing to request a full refund. I am sorry that you found the BBQ unclean. Again, as stated in my welcome email, the cleaning of this is not something we do as the BBQ is an added extra which I thought guests may appreciate. Having taken on board your feedback I have now removed the BBQ completely to avoid this issue so guests will no longer have this potential problem in future. Your comment regarding the photographs - they do represent the cottage well and are accurate. The only photos that are out of date are of the bathroom which has had an upgrade since the original photos were taken. Regarding the size of the cottage - the description and images of the property provided make it clear of the size. It is an old 2 bedroomed cosy stone cottage in the village centre. It is not advertised as a spacious property. The garden space is a bonus sun trap after a long day out walking. It is disappointing to hear that this may not have been up to your expectations. The cottage itself was refurbished in March 2018 with brand new beds, TVs, sofas, furniture, kitchen crockery and utensils, fridge, garden furniture and the new bath, basin and wall panels were installed just before lockdown at the end of 2019. It has had major work to the roof over the second lockdown. I am particularly disappointed with your comments regarding the cottage being very tired so I will look into this to see where I can improve in this area. We do not allow dogs upstairs as you comment. This is to be courteous to all future guests, especially those who may have allergies. I am extremely proud of the comments that I receive from non-dog guests about its cleanliness and lack of dog smell. I'm sure that you understand that if I allowed dogs upstairs that this may cause issues. As a dog owner myself I know that some breeds have oily coats which carpets do not enjoy at all and dog hair can be tricky to get rid of depending on how much they moult. This policy is something that will not be changed for those reasons above. Thank you again for your feedback and I apologise if the issues you raised contributed to a less enjoyable holiday. It is disappointing that you may not fully appreciate the difficulties that small self employed businesses like myself have endured following a very difficult year with limited income. I will, however, take your comments on board and look at the property to see where any improvements can be made for future guests. Thanks, Sally Property Owner

The village was wonderful at Christmas, we were given very useful information by the local people who were very inclusive and happy to chat, on Christmas Eve Father Christmas toured the village and the church bells rang out his arrival at 4pm, there was also local brass band to make it feel even more special. The cottage... I cannot convey how much we enjoyed our Christmas here. We stayed with a dog and it has a garden (not all in the village do) and sally (the owner) made both humans and dog feel welcome with a welcome pack and the personal decor and feel of the cottage was very homely and modern, and there was excellent communication. However, if you do not have a dog do not let this dissuade you, dogs stay downstairs and off furniture and I would never have guessed that any dogs had stayed previously, it was pristine. Things I wish I had known; the attention to detail is excellent and consequently the cottage is so well equipped, you only need to take yourself, some clothes and personal toiletries (although there was even shampoo, conditioner and shower gel) no need to take a car load of food (we left with as much as we took) there is a decent sized co-op across the road open long hours everyday except Christmas Day and Easter, there’s a large reasonably priced outdoor clothes shop on the A road to bakewell, and some really good little outdoors shops in Castleton if you forget anything, the Tideswell Dale is a short walk away, and there are a lot of walks that can be combined to make it suitable for everyone - there are a lot of walking books at the cottage even one for pub and another’s for dog (without stiles, handy as my lab x dobie is a hefty 45kg), pretty much everywhere is dog friendly - so a trip to a larger towns such as bakewell is not as much of a problem as anticipated, can go in most shops with you as you browse. The cottage was immaculate and the personal touches such as the huge selection of games and books really make our stay so comfortable, we didn’t want to leave! Thank you for a very special Christmas, and the cake was delicious!

Sally had left some lovely treats on the table as a welcome. There was also many other extras that you may have forgotten to pack. The garden was not used due to the weather but it is layered in several tiers and won't be accessible for some people. Sally has advised will be putting in handrails which will help but it's the nature of the location.Tideswell does not have much to explore in itself although it has a huge church aptly named "the cathedral of the peaks". There is a co op nearby as well as a post office and chippys. We walked to The Anchor on Sally's recommendation and were not disappointed with the hearty meal. Very generous portions. We would recommend the cottage and Sally was quick to respond to text etc. It offers a great base to explore the beautiful peaks. The furthest we travelled was to Crich Tram museum which was 45 minutes . Well worth a visit and as well as riding as many times as you like on the restored trams and track , there are woodland walks filled with some amazing wood sculptures. It's run by volunteers and it's amazing. also if you like history Eyam is literally about 15 minutes down the road and the museum is filled with the story of the village . During the plague the village lost 250 of its 800 people. Please note there is a free car park directly behind a paying one. • "My dog Henry and I had the most amazing week-long holiday in Grace Cottage."

It was the perfect location for so many Peak District walks, and the community of Tideswell is very welcoming (and dog-friendly). The cottage’s back garden is a sun trap with views to the countryside and the Cathedral of the Peak from the top. The cottage is very well appointed - with everything you could need and the beds were very comfy. We took a daily walk from the door and stopped at various pubs for afternoon lunch. The owner of the cottage was available by email (and phone too if needed though not required on my trip) and suggested various events that were on the week of our visit. She also arranged for a welcome treat for both me and my dog. We didn’t want to leave!
