  • "It is a nice property that could be better."

The property could do with a good clean and better prepared for visitors. We arrived on a cold Friday afternoon and I guess the property had been empty all week as it was very cold inside and took a long time to warm up. We had to drive to the next village to buy logs, it would have been nice to have had a few at the property to start us off. The bed needed a mattress cover to hide the stain and cover the bobbly top of the bed as well as a sheet that doesn’t come loose in the night. The Bluetooth speaker could not even be setup by one of our guests who is a sound engineer, probably great for the cottage owners, but not usable by guests. There were a few other issues, but let’s keep the review brief. As I say a nice property that could be better.

Thank you for taking time to review the property - we are so sorry your stay was not up to standard, we will feed this back to the cleaning company and ensure the heating is on prior. We haven’t had feedback about the speaker before, thanks for highlighting. Property Owner

The cottage was perfect. Lots of space, warm and cosy, all of home from home amenities and in a great location. Plenty of street parking; we had 3 cars so this was a must that didn’t disappoint. We would, without hesitation, stay here again. We will definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family and anyone thinking of staying in Hope for a few nights. Huge thank you to Sykes staff for being readily available to help when we needed them.

  • "Great property, in a great location."

Lovely pub and cafe nearby. We stayed as four adults, three kids snd a dog and the hiuse was a great size for us all. Felt the house could have been cleaned better, there were a lot of cobwebs, even upon arrival. However, the house is extremely well stocked and has everything you need for a great stay. The drainage in the bathroom at the end of the house is a problem. The shower overflows even whilst in the shower a short time. We even cleared out the drain ourselves, but there was still an unpleasant smell at that end of the house. Overall, a lovely traditional house and we had a great stay.

  • "House is in ideal location for exploring the area."

We were a group of 6 adults and all the double bedrooms were of a good size, plenty of hot water for showers and excellent sofa area and dining area for us all to be together. We felt the kitchen and bathrooms did let the house down a bit, there was very little storage in the kitchen for food, the fridge didn’t close very well in the kitchen and it feels ready for a revamp. Both bathrooms had a strange smell, seems to be a drainage issue, the walk in shower almost overflowing at times. We were very lucky with warm weather for October but then didn’t realise the windows on the front of the house cannot be opened, and so were quite warm during the night. The on street parking is quite limited too we found.

Thank you Wendy for the feedback! We agree the sofa is so comfy! As detailed in the listing the house does have its quirks, original windows do prove a challenge when they expand in the heat! Will get a new fridge ordered, the kitchen and bathrooms has been recently renovated and meet Sykes 4* rating. Property Owner

The house was very spacious and the kitchen was fully equipped. I thought the welcome package was a lovely thing to do. There are plenty of walks in the area without having to jump in the car and there are plenty of shops and pubs in walking distance.

  • "Lovely comfortable holiday cottage with plenty of space and very tastefully decorated."

Perfect for a catch up with friends from across the country. Good central location with excellent amenities nearby (we enjoyed a pub meal and Indian takeaway). Just a few minor niggles, including a very slow draining rainfall shower which threatened to overflow every time we used it. Kitchen small but functional (having the microwave in the cellar seemed a bit odd!). Overall would highly recommend.

Thank you Elizabeth for the feedback glad you enjoyed your time with your friends. We will address the drainage Property Owner

The house is extremely well equipped, beautifully decorated and very well situated to visit local villages and for great walks. • "We came to stay to celebrate a 30th but also as an opportunity to get together as a family!"

The house has absolutely everything you need including a coffee machine, speaker, washing machine and microwave. A lovely big table and HUGE sofa and it was great to have the additional snug! Lots of pots, pans, cutlery and bowls/trays which isn’t always the case in holiday lets. We appreciated being able to add on the highchair to save us using a portable one. It was lovely and cool in the house despite being 26 degrees outside. We appreciated the little garden opposite and had some lovely chats with the neighbour! (Looking at the property- right hand side) Everyone was happy with their rooms and we stayed in the huge bedroom with the 4 poster bed and managed to have our toddler in with us too! Such a perfect location too, we will definitely be back! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your gorgeous house! Only point to note- If you have small children (we have a 17month old) the stairs to the cellar are a bit of a danger point despite the stair gate the bars are quite wide and the gap at the bottom of the gate was a bit big, but we understand it’s an old property with old safety regulations and we used the fire guard and some duvet covers we brought with us to cover the spindles. We didn’t need to use it but the thermostat needs some new batteries!

Thank you for such lovely feedback, and being fabulous guests - we are so glad you enjoyed your stay- family time is so precious. Can’t wait to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

Door handles pointless once door was shut you coukd not open from the outside so this happened a few times we took the in laws both in mid 70's struggled to open them. The bathroom woukd not lock which was a pain due to it being a bathroom. The garden area it stated about the small wall but nothing about back of the shed being open so dogs could walk out. The area is lovely the cottage itself lovely

Thank you for the feedback, we are so glad you enjoyed the house . We have addressed your points. Garden secure but we do advise guests to check, lock fixed on the bathroom and with the house being grade 11 listed we do not want to alter the original doors so we ask guests to maybe not fully shut doors if they may struggle to open. The house is situated just off the road which means you don’t really hear the traffic going by. Was a lovely touch to have all the basic provisions provided including welcome pack of x2 wine and dog treats. We would definitely return, the only recommendations we would offer would be a child/safety gate for the cellar stairs and maybe some board games. Couple of pointers for the cleaning team. One of of the wasted bins in the bedroom wasn’t emptied, there were no firefighters, (or we couldn’t find them) and there were x2 light bulbs out (one in the hallway and another in the lounge). These are very small issues and nothing to stop us having a wonderful time. Such a beautiful property with plenty of space for relaxing after a day on the hills.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed staying here."

The cottage was beautifully decorated and well thought out in terms of what was in the kitchen. The owner was extremely helpful and we very much appreciated her purchasing some fans for us given how warm it was during our stay. We also appreciated her getting someone to fix the windows which had unfortunately been painted shut! The neighbour Ian was extremely kind and helpful during our stay. The area of Hope is lovely and has alot to offer any visitors. The only minor points I would make are that the bed that splits isn't very comfortable and you can feel the springs. We were going to tell my daughter to use the bed in the single room instead, but that mattress is far too soft for our liking. In terms of cleanliness the property was mostly very clean and tidy. I would maybe ask the cleaners to try and get rid of all the cob webs ( there was a big one on the light on the bed side table I noticed in master bedroom) and go behind bedside table in master bedroom as I noticed lots of dead woodlice. I would also ask them to fill up the soap dispensers in the bathroom as they were empty when we arrived. I would not recommend this cottage for anyone with young children as the stairs to the cellar would be a hazard, as would the bannister's above which have quite large gaps which a small child may try to get through. Apart from that we would definitely visit again as it is a real gem of a property and a good size. Many Thanks! Simone

Thank you Simone for the feedback, the house certainly has its quirks. I will ensure that the cleaning is looked at - I’m sorry for the hand soap. We look forward to welcoming you back! ☺️ Property Owner
