  • "Generally a very good property."

Probably the only suggested improvement would be to install wifi extenders, the bedrooms are not well covered by the existing wifi set up, this will not be a problem for many, but for us, a definite issue! Kitchen cupboards above the sink were an interesting obstacle but no major hassle, there’s nowhere else to put them in any case! Location is excellent. Well clean and tidy property, plenty of parking spaces.

  • "A wonderful property which far surpassed our expectations."

It was large and airy and very comfortable. The fact that each bedroom has ensuite bathrooms was a real bonus.. It was also really handy to have so many added essentials in the cupboards. Thank you for a wonderful stay; we would gladly return and recommend this property to others.

  • "Lovely property in a fabulous remote location."

Cottage had everything we needed and Emily was on hand to answer questions or sort any issues. The other neighbouring holiday properties are quite close but not so as to affect privacy too much. Rare to get property with all ensuite bedrooms and this is a massive plus point. Great stay. Highly recommend.

Thanks for your feedback Michelle. As new owners it's encouraging to hear you had such a wonderful stay. We are improving the properties all the time and hope you will return soon to see our progress. Best wishes, The Victorian Gardens Property Owner

We have returned here time and time again. The property is spot on for 3 couples, the open plan living allows you to cook and socialise at the same time. The views are spectacular . Stunning walks on the doorstep. We never tire of staying at Cressbrook.

Lovely area for walks, views from nearby are superb - would definitely stay there again if flexible re. Second dog.

  • "The Peak District is beautiful and this is a perfect setting to enjoy all of its beauty."

Location is difficult despite using the Sat Nav And down a rutted unadapted track so not good for low seated transport. The accommodation was just as described....... Although. The beds have really firm mattresses and took a while to adjust to. Albeit COVID can dictate what furnishings to have, the bungalow felt soulless. The blinds contributed to a feeling of hasty change from office space to living areas. No pivotal point, such as a fireplace or good size carpet, added to the seeming ‘thrown together’ feeling. The bedrooms were much better....cosy and each with its own en-suite. Great showers too. The bungalow has ceramic floor tiles throughout so taking indoor footwear is a must. We just felt it was functional and no more. And if towels are provided, why no cushions? They can be washed too. There was plenty of warmth and the appliances worked well....although the dishwasher needs attention. Very clean and tidy too. Just not ......friendly.

  • "Lovely location with great views and lots of walking available, but the description is a little misleading in some respects."

It should be mentioned that the access drive is long and made of very rough stone (Ok if you have a 4x4). Also, the property is very much overlooked by the other 2 units . The description says " river and pond easily accessible". They are not ...... The interior is light and spacious and generally well equipped - although cushions on the somewhat deep sofas would have been good (as someone else has commented , covers could be washed like the pillowcases). All windows have blinds, but the cord pulls are flimsy plastic chains and kept breaking. There is a large unsightly, scruffy area adjacent to the property where the communal bins are which could easily be improved. ( My dog happily found a dead rat and the badly decomposed body of a rabbit there...) It is described as being set in the old Victorian garden. The only signage to the property reads " Victorian Garden " .The 3 units are, but all that is left is the original wall. While we were there, a couple drove down asking where the garden was as they thought it was open to the public.....

  • "The Tractor Shed was perfect for 2 couples , plenty of room , very quiet and sitting high up in the peaks."

There were a variety of walks direct from the front door that could take you out for hours. The property was clean and the bedrooms were a lovely size with en-suite . As there were 3 bedrooms it would also be perfect for 3 couples without being under each others feet . There were 3 lovely pubs we found on different walking routes which were perfect for stopping for lunch or for that quick refreshing drink. Was sad to leave

  • "Six of us recently stayed at the Tractor Shed for a long weekend."

The accommodation was spot on for three couples. With the kitchen, diner and living room being open plan it didn’t matter if you were the cook as we could all still interact and enjoy each other’s company. Our cars did not move for the whole weekend as all we had to do was walk out the front door to pick up one of the many walks available in the area. The view from the cottage itself was breathtaking. Would definitely go back.

  • "The property itself was pleasant enough but I felt that premium rates were being charged and the accommodation was not premium."

The photo was obviously taken some time ago as it did not look like the outside and windows had been cleaned in quite a while. The chairs and table outside was filthy and the seat on the sofa was broken. The weather was beautiful when we were there but no inclination to sit outside. Either side of the door were tubs with dead plants in and dead leaves everywhere. The windows were filthy on the outside as were the window ledges and woodwork. There seemed to be bits of rubbish/rubble as though rushed to open before completely finished but, then seems to have been open a while. I don’t mind paying for good accommodation but this did not have the wow factor expected for the price paid. The attention to detail was lacking. The bread bin had been left with bread crumbs in so although I did not use it I cleaned it. The road down to the property is abismal and needs tarmacing and lighting there also needs to be more outside lighting in the grounds. I liked that there were a couple of lights on the end of the building that had sensors so came on as you approached the property but 2 out of the 3 outside lights to switch on did not work. We had intended to go to the main house for breakfast but was told ‘no dogs allowed in the main house’ now as we can not leave him alone in the accommodation what were we supposed to do, take it in turns to have breakfast? As the nearest pub is a drive away and although it was a very nice pub with good food wouldn’t it be an idea to have facilities at the main house to get a drink and perhaps some food but, they would need to be dog friendly! The accommodation was ok and it was nice that all the beds were made up so we could choose which room we wanted and there were a lot of kitchen utensils if you wanted to cook. I have left a list for the owners and I would not return to this property although the area was beautiful.

The Old Tractor shed was clean, well furnished and the layout was great. One of our party was unexpectedly wheelchair bound for the duration and the open plan layout was perfect. The staff were accommodating and happy to help. We would definitely stay again.

  • "Enjoyed the stay, just a few comments, No underfloor heating as stated, but there were little oil heaters everywhere which was good, but they would click on and off all night."

The dishwasher door wouldn’t fully open, which was quit annoying! The wet rooms were amazing the only issue was that the towels were just bath towels and really could have done with being bath sheets! It also stated washer and dryer were in a different area, which when I opened the door, there were cobwebs, dried leaves on the steep steps going down didn’t looked like it had been used or cleaned for some time, so didn’t bother drying our wet clothes!

  • "Lovely apartment, fully equipped."

Two of our party were poorly which is no way the fault of the owner. The illness restricted our activities over the weekend, which had an effect on our plans which in turn meant we didn’t really study the surroundings to the full. The only negative I would state is the finding of the property, due to the country roads and the darkness it was very difficult to find. This could be resolved very easily by more sign posting if that is possible.

  • "We were a party of 4 one requiring wheelchair access."

The cottage was fine although the walk in showers were a little cramped for a disabled person. The grounds are lovely but the access roads around the estate are very bumpy and not suitable for wheelchairs which was a shame as we would have liked to have a walk round.

About the location

CRESSBROOK

Tideswell 3 miles; Bakewell 4 miles.

Cressbrook is located on the River Wye and its focal point is the wonderful mill, which was built in 1779 by the famous Richard Arkwright. The surrounding area has some of the prettiest scenery in the Peak District. Follow the footpath upstream of Cressbrook Mill to Water-cum-Jolly, a beautiful river gorge with fine limestone cliffs, which is superb for rock climbers, birdwatchers and walkers. North of the mill lies the lane to Ravensdale, which is adjacent to Cressbrook Dale, a fine gorge-like limestone dale with numerous crags and the remains of several lead mines. Cressbrook Dale is a National Nature Reserve renowned for its range of rare flowers. South of the mill you pass through the lovely Upper Dale and Nether Dale leading up to the famous landmark of Monsal Head, which is on the Monsal Trail. This provides a wonderful “behind the scenes” view of this beautiful part of Derbyshire. Close by is the lovely little village of Litton, which has a village green outside the wonderful food-serving pub, The Red Lion, and a well-stocked village shop. Visit nearby Tideswell in the heart of the Peak District National Park with its fine church dedicated to St John the Baptist, known as "The Cathedral of the Peak", country inns, local eateries, wells dressing and carnival wakes. There is excellent walking with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south, while Mam Tor and Castleton are only a few miles away with the popular Spa town of Buxton nearby.
