It would be 5 star if there was a reliable good shower. Found the shower very stressful to get a constant temperature. The cottage was decorated beautifully for Xmas. Kitchen is well stocked we were even ate our Xmas dinner in the cottage. Could do with a few more glasses, tumblers and wine glasses but that’s all. Would return again. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind comments, although this is the first time I’ve had a negative comment regarding the shower, will look into it , many thanks Tracy ❤️ Property Owner

The cottage is spotlessly clean, modern and close to the town. Ideal to use for gigs at the Picturedrome or for exploring the area. Communication with the owner was great and we even received a welcome back breakfast. Such a lovely gesture. The doggies were thought about too, with a doggie station, towels, treats, brushes and even a lush doggie bed. Thank you!

  • "A fantastic cottage to stay in, in terms of the standard of facilities at the cottage and the standard of the accommodation too."

The cottage as it’s name states, overlooks a idillic river and is only 5 minute walk to the town centre of Holmfirth, which host a very good range of shops, bars and restaurants, many of which, like Riverview are dog friendly. Despite being located on a very busy road, the traffic and/or noise does not affect staying at Riverview Cottage, as the accommodation is situated at the rear of the property (entrance is via the main road) so this did impact our quality time at the cottage. Parking (free) is limited and what there is is on a first come first serve basis. There are pay to park car parks available nearby too. The owner who was excellent was more so due to helping us on where to park, places to eat and providing doggy treats, beds etc too. This was a very nice touch. Holmfirth is a lovely place to visit which provides excellent access to the Peak District and Riverview Cottage with its location and amenities makes it the ideal place to stay whilst there. We look forward to returning and we would definitely recommend staying there when in Holmfirth.

Lovely walks by many reservoirs in the area only short drive away. Weather was great. Cottage itself lovely and cosy with everything we needed, except for the back garden, this cottage doesn’t have one. But I compensated for walking in the Victoria park every morning with my doggies. We had a small accident, but thanks to owner Tracy all been sorted. Thank you for our lovely stay. We would definitely recommend! P.s. doggies loved the fluffy doggie bed so much, that we came back and got them one, which they prioritise over other ones now!

This was made even more evident by the goodies found upon arrival (bacon, eggs, bread, milk & butter and a bottle of chilled prosecco). First of all the communication was excellent from the start and when we arrived it just got better! Little thing's like tea bags/coffee/sugar, (and even fresh milk in the fridge!), was a great start, (so we didn't have to go straight out to shop after a 5 hour drive!). Then there were also some breakfast goodies and even a bottle of fizz on arrival!! The cottage itself was so lovely, just as described, very clean, (with lovely fresh smelling bed-linen and soft towels). The Wi-fi was an added bonus as well as the "Alexa" (which kept my daughter entertained!) The "Doggie station" was another great touch! Normally when we stay away we tend to eat out most nights, but because the kitchen was so good and had everything there, we stayed in and cooked a fair bit and enjoyed the comfy/cosy feel of the place! (It was very cosy). The location of the property is ideal, just on the edge of town overlooking the river and rooftops, quiet and in easy reach of the shops etc. Beautiful surrounding countryside as well, plenty of great walks (particulaly the Digley/Ramsden Reservoir walks close by and over to Marsden/Pennine way) and close enough to "pop down" to the Peak district for days out. All in all a fantastic well needed break away with the family, (even the weather was kind, which make's a nice change for Yorkshire!!) We would like to extend our thanks again to Tracy the owner and wish her all the best for the future, we will definately be looking to stay there again!!!! THANK YOU!!

  • "Holmfirth is a small but thriving community with a surpisingly busy weekend food & pub scene and Riverview Cottage is set within a few minutes walk to all of the available amenities from tourist information, small shops, newsagents, tea rooms and a Sainsbury's store."

We recommend walking up the hills on either side to get a view and perspective of the village. The cottage overlooks the small river that runs through this small town/village and we found the accommodation to be well designed to maximise the available space which was fine for a family of four. It was warm, spotless and a welcoming pack and bottle of "fizz" was thoughtful after travelling for a few hours. The owner kept in touch during our travel to assure us everything was "ready" and indeed it was. We had no need for any assistance other than advice for parking. Avoid any "Parking Permit" areas nearby (not always clearly marked) and all will be fine. An enjoyable family break. Thanks.

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Battye’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
