  • "Great property over two floors in a central but quiet location."

Very high standard accommodation, modern but cosy. Very comfortable bed and lovely sound of the river if you choose to have the windows open. Very welcoming host and very helpful with our last minute booking.

Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed your impromptu weekend, glad we could help you visit us again ☺️ Property Owner

  • "This is one of the best apartments I've stayed in."

It's attractive, warm, and everything has been thought of—a welcome pack and milk in the fridge, lights & sockets all in the right place, kitchen space to store food (so often lacking). It's well placed for town and local walks. I would (and probably will) book again.

  • "Had a lovely stay at Up-Top cottage."

It has everything you need and is super clean. Even the TV had a free Netflix account, not that we watched much. Lots of useful information left by the owner and a lovely welcome pack. Some lovely pubs, cafes and restaurants just a few minutes walk. We didn’t want to leave had such a nice time. Parking up the hill was not a problem, but yes it’s a very busy junction outside the cottage so you do get a bit of road noise. But don’t let that bother you as you will miss out on this gem.

Thanks so much, so pleased you had a great experience, that’s what we aim for! Lovely to know our efforts are enjoyed so much Property Owner

  • "What a fantastic property!"

Very well and tastefully appointed - everything you can think of and may need can easily be found and is in an excellent working order. The property looks brand new being the result of good quality fit out, furniture, appliances, layout, all well thought out and maintained. Easy access to the village and surrounds with lots of close by street parking. The owners are easily reachable if necessary and very accommodating. We had a great week break and are considering returning in the near future if it is available to rent at that time. Thank you very much! Jan and Eloise

  • "Have been thinking about this."

Yes the parking can be problematic and you can hear the traffic on the front, BUT, you you are perfectly placed slap bang in the middle of town. Yes the bedroom beams are challenging and the downstairs loo in the night not ideal BUT, the bedroom is magical with the comfiest bed and the shower room is modern perfection. The crux of the matter is, this is a stunning apartment, stylishly and imaginatively modernised, quality through and through. You could not ask for more and we were overwhelmed and delighted to the extent that we have booked for three weeks next year. Thank you Amanda ! Anne and Mel (January 2023)

Thanks so much, what an honest and informative review, and lovely too! See you in December! Property Owner

  • "A warm comfortable apartment right in the centre of Holmfirth."

The kitchen is extremely well equipped and there is ample heating and hot water. We visited out of season in late November/ early December and the traffic was still very busy and noisy when any windows were open. It is on double yellow lines and parking was a fair distance away up a hill, not a problem for us as we had gone there to do some walking. As a couple of a certain age who enjoy a pint or two, the night time visits to the loo were a minor inconvenience, but the automatic nightlight on the spiral staircase is a lifesaver. All in all a beautifully equipped, convenient and comfortable place to stay.

  • "We've been using Airbnb for the past few years but ended up trying Sykes Cottages as we'd left things a bit too late for Airbnb."

This property has made us try Sykes Cottages first. It was brilliant. I've always had excellent Airbnbs but this property had thought of everything. We were really impressed with the kitchen. Usually I feel that kitchens have been furnished with second hand crockery, bottle openers that don't work and pans that are battered. Everything here looked like it had been bought especially for the apartment. We even took our own kitchen knife this time but didn't need it at all as there was an excellent selection of knives. The bathroom was brilliant and shower great. The living room was very comfortable and cosy and I liked the dining area. The bedroom was also great and thoughtful touches with the lighting and soft furnishings. Liked the light on the stair for finding your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The welcome basket was the most generous I've ever had and kept us going in snacks for the week. We were also impressed by the very thorough and nicely presented information folder. It was very useful. Liked the cunning ways of storing thing such as the ironing board and the boot/shoe shelf over the doorway was very handy. The property is really well located especially for the three restaurants right across the road and for the numerous pubs and bars really close by. If you are into walking there are lots of local walks, book in the drawer which has been marked up with walks that are possible straight from your front door. Amanda was doing some renovation of the troughs outside the front one day and we were impressed to notice that she had changed the inspirational quote on the chalk board in the hallway. A very good place to stay!

Oh my, thank you so much, what an amazing, informative, helpful review. You are very kind, so useful for future guests too. Thanks Amanda. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was absolutely spotless and had everything you could need."

The location was right in the centre of town. Car parking wasn't a problem as we parked on the road suggested which had lots of spaces. Lovely hamper of goodies waiting for us. A lot of care and attention had been put into the furnishing and little touches. One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in.

Thanks so much, that means a lot, so glad you enjoyed it, makes it all worthwhile Amanda Property Owner

  • "A fabulous cottage based right in the heart of Holmfirth."

This was our first visit to the area, and we will definitely be back! The cottage has just recently been refurbished to a high standard. Comfy sofa and bed, fully equipped kitchen and a large roomy shower all added to a very comfortable stay. The location is great, with access to the abundance of cafes, restaurants and bars Holmfirth has to offer. Plenty of walks and cycle routes available from the doorstep, or a short drive will give you access to the peak district and many of the reservoirs surrounding the area. We would 100% return to the area and this cottage!

Thanks so much Nicola for a lovely first review, very much appreciated and very helpful for potential future guests. All the best Amanda x Property Owner

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
