  • "Owner of property very helpful village feel peace and quiet."

It is just far from local shops. Would love to stay whenever I book my holidays again very pleasant stay.

  • "Stayed for work purposes but the cottage was a lovely stay."

Would highly recommend for couples as it was cosy stay in the middle of nowhere. It was very clean and tidy, plenty of on site facilities for cooking etc. Only gripe was the internet/wifi but as I say it was for work purposes so needed a good internet connection. Overall very satisfied with my stay

  • "We had a great stay at the Rumblings."

The cottage was really well laid out as a comfortable, social space. As mentioned in the ad, we brought our own firelighters, kindling and logs and were able to have a lovely fire to make the downstairs a wonderful place. Oh and we were welcomed with some biscuits and a bottle of wine…which was a nice surprise! The owners were just round the corner if you need them, but were not intrusive. Loved the beautiful location as well. Great little cottage on the edge of the Peak District!

  • "We arrived and the temp was below freezing."

There was no starter pack for the log burner and it wasn't ready to use. The downstairs was very cold due to drafts from doors etc. The TV was so small there was no chance of watching it unless you sat next to it. The floor was filthy and cold to walk on due to no carpeting. No heating in the bathroom. Only the double bed had bedding so if we didn't wish to sleep together the other single beds were unusable. The pillows on the single beds had no protectors on them and they were sweat stained. There is only two small bedside tables and a cupboard it the main bedroom so no draws. This property is not pet friendly. The way the photo has been taken makes it look as though there is a wide space out side this isn't so. You closely overlooked. There wasn't a useful information pack in the property.

  • "We had a lovely stay at the rumbles no 1, the cottage was far enough away that our stay was very quiet but close enough to drive to several places, we could walk from the cottage with our dog and the parking for number one is right beside the cottage which was very convenient, the cottage was very clean and had all the amenities needed, we only had a small issue, which isn’t a real issue but the sofas where very small and not very comfortable if you are a larger person, but otherwise a lovely long weekend stay."

  • "We had such an amazing holiday!"

The cottage is beautiful has everything you need two great sized rooms, nice bathroom and lovely open plan living room/kitchen, perfect location and everyone you see is so friendly. The tv isn’t the biggest but it has all the streaming services you need like Netflix, bbciplayer ect, there is a cave you can get a guided tour around which is around half hr drive but right by there is so many things to see and do, just going for a walk by the cottage is more than enough the views are breathtaking. I would 1000% recommend this cottage to anyone it is great the reviews beforehand were a little negative on some and honestly don’t know what they mean and so glad we didn’t take notice, the owners were very friendly and made sure we had all we need! Thank you for an amazing stay! :-)

  • "Location good, but property disappointing."

It should be made clear that the property has no garden and no safe area for a dog to be let out on its own. Very small TV. This and other items, such as kitchen items need updating.

  • "We had a lovely stay thank you."

I couldn't believe how close Curbar Edge was which is spectacular. We enjoyed using the wood burner and was easy to buy wood from the farmer next door who also sold eggs, and luckily had a snow plough to clear the road after the crazy weather. The cottage was perfect for our needs with our children and dog, a stones throw to a public path through fields which looked beautiful with and without the snow! And all the interactions with the owners were very friendly and helpful.

  • "The Rumblings 1 was small but contained everything we needed."

However, the log burner had remnants of a previous fire and needed cleaning out so was not used, the larger of the two frying pans had more scratches than none stick coating. The TV and two leather couches were miniature. The good points are the WiFi, the on site parking and location close to the peak district.

  • "A lovely cottage in a fabulous setting - we will definitely be back ."

Super comfy beds and lovely bed linen made for a great rest as well as a great setting for lovely walks and runs . The matches to light the fire had run out so we bought a lighter for the next guest to use too . The peacock pub is fabulous - we had dinner and brekkie there - we can highly recommend and, with a head torch it’s a nice walk back at night to the cottage.

  • "The listing states that the beds in the second bedroom can be zipped together to become a super king size bed and that such request needs to be made at least 48 hours in advance."

We made the request on the Monday before our Friday arrival (4 days notice) to receive a response from the owner as follows: “Unfortunately the cottage has already been done and is ready for you. But you could just push the two single beds together.” We were certainly rather unhappy with such a response and asked again for the beds to be zipped up as just pushing them together would not be comfortable - and this time, the owner responded to say that this would be done. The original response obviously did not make us feel welcome before our arrival. Anyone looking at booking this cottage should note that it sits on a rather noisy road - it’s not a very busy road but vehicles tend to pass at high speed, especially in the middle of the night and this unfortunately affected our sleep- and to make matters worse, the cottage also faces another house in close proximity and the woman living in it was coughing every single night all through the nights, which kept us awake! We would have loved to close the windows due to all the noise (vehicles and coughing) but the weather was far too hot to allow it, so we did not have a comfortable stay. Also, although a washing machine is provided, it is only 1,000 spin and therefore, the clothes need to be hung to dry BUT there is absolutely nowhere to do this as there is no garden and no facility is provided for this. Lastly, we note that other guests have mentioned this as well, which the owners have taken no notice of - it is utterly incredulous to provide the smallest tv imaginable for guests! Don’t think we have stayed in any holiday cottage that has provided such a measly sized tv for guests - it was just not worth switching it on!

Hi sorry to here that you didn’t enjoy your stay at the Rumblings. I would like to just pick up on a few points. The cottage and the surrounding buildings were converted from a old farm so thing are always Close together but we can’t Control one of the neighbours as a cough and to say the road is nosing I just don’t understand. The washing machine is a normal washing machine. You must have missed the clothes airer because it’s followed up down the side of the washing machine. It is stated in the advertising of the cottage but there is no garden. Regards David Property Owner

  • "The hosts were lovely, and the location excellent."

The cottage was smaller than expected, with creaking floorboards, so visiting the loo in the night involved some gymnastics so was not to wake the daughter and granddaughter. And we were disappointed that there was no garden.

  • "The cottage on the whole was fine, comfortable and warm."

I was a bit disappointed, having booked for 2 people to come to a 4 bed cottage, to find only the double bed made up. The assumption that 2 adults would necessarily be willing to share a double bed seems unwarranted. The customer pays for the use of the whole cottage, after all.

  • "We recently stayed at the cottage at the end of September for a week."

It was the perfect retreat for me, my husband and our small dog. The cottage was very well equipped and has everything you need for a self catering stay. The owners left wine, milk, crisps & biscuits for our arrival which I thought was a really nice touch and very appreciated. There was a limited amount of wood for the wood burner but after a text to the owners, a box of wood was delivered straight away. The owners live on the property and are always just a phone call away if you need anything. The cottage was very clean and there is also cleaning products & equipment as well as a washing machine which was handy as we were there for a week. The cottage is situated perfectly if you are wishing to visit tourist attractions of the Peak District. Everything is within a short distance from the cottage. There are supermarkets 10-15 minutes away. Good local pubs include The Tickled Trout in Barlow and the Royal Oak at Millthorpe. The area is perfect for walks. The cottage has amazing views over the countryside. The cottage sits on the road and at times the traffic came past at high speeds. Not a negative comment towards the cottage as this is obviously out of the owners hands but just something to keep in mind if you are taking small children or pets. There is parking on the grass next to the cottage for one vehicle which was perfect for us and made loading / unloading a lot easier! The cottage sleeps four but there was only two of us plus our dog so I can’t comment on how suitable it would be for four people, but for us it was ideal. The only very small negative I had was the sofas are a tad uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. It wasn’t a huge issue for us for the most part as we were out for most of the days exploring however we had one rainy day where we decided to stay in. Overall the cottage was fantastic and in a great location. I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit the Peaks! We will definitely be back.

  • "Just returned from a 2 night stay in this beautiful little cottage which is 1 of 3 just outside of Barlow on the edge of the peak district."

We were 2 friends with a little dog. On arrival just 1 room was made up but a quick call the owner who lived on the same site and more bedding appeared within minutes. The owner is a very friendly lady and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was well presented and beautiful. It is on a road but the road is not well used at night so lovely and quiet. We had the pleasure of seeing some lovely horses trot by on Sunday morning! Barlow is about a 30 min walk along the road and has 2 amazing pubs that serve food and both accept dogs. We did a great 15 mile walk on the Saturday and back to the cottage for a lovely (very hot!) shower. There are wall heaters x 3 which heated the cottage up very quickly and the thick walls kept the heat well - there was a wood burner in the lounge but we did not need top use this. All in all a great little cottage in a great location. Highly recommended.
