The property

Folds House is a stone-built, detached cottage situated in the heart of the Peak District, in the pretty village of Calver, where the River Derwent meanders towards Hope Valley.

Set just paces from the Derwentwater Arms, which serves good food and a friendly atmosphere, you have an ideal situation for a refreshing holiday, filled with walking and cycling opportunities.

It is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to explore sweeping hills, charming towns and villages, and wildflower meadows enjoying the summer sun.

Entrance is gained via a reception hall, where you can kick off your walking boots and remove your coats before stepping into the bright and airy kitchen/diner, for a well-earned family feast.

The galley-style kitchen is fully equipped for the job, with a double oven and useful appliances getting you through your stay.

Head through to the spacious lounge and put your feet up as you log into your Netflix account and unwind into the evening.

Pour yourselves a glass of wine and discuss plans for the day ahead as the electric woodburner-effect fire fills the room with an orange glow.

Upstairs across the gallery landing, character oozes from the master bedroom with its high vaulted ceiling framing the bed and wardrobes either side.

It also boasts a tiled en-suite shower room conveniently assisting you each morning, before an adventure on the High Peak Trail.

The bunk room comes with a chest of drawers, ideal for those traveling with children.

And the final double room offers zip-and-link beds for flexible sleeping arrangements.

Balmy summer days can be spent with replenishing drinks on the patio or a spot of relaxation on the lawn, completing the property in a welcoming and homely fashion.

Explore this traditional village with a stroll to the local pubs or shop.

You also have Chatsworth Park close by, home to the stately home of Chatsworth House, with its Victorian rock garden and working farmyard.

Spend a day at the spa town of Buxton and pay a visit to Bakewell, where you can taste its famous Bakewell tart and browse its 17th-century market hall.

Further afield are the cities of Sheffield and Manchester.

The ideal base for touring all the Peak District has to offer.

About the location

Baslow 1.5 miles; Eyam 2 miles; Bakewell 5 miles.

The delightful, traditional village of Calver lies in the shadow of Froggatt Edge and Curbar Gap, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. A wonderfully traditional village with a Post Office and a country pub serving good food, Calver is close to the National Trust-owned Longshaw Estate, and less than five miles from Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. As well as a traditional pub and Post Office, the pretty village of Calver has a cafe, petrol station, small supermarket selling local produce, a craft shop and a gallery, and is a wonderful base for walks, climbing and mountain biking. The village of Baslow with shops, pubs and restaurants is only a mile and a half away, and a further range of amenities can be found in the market town of Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District and home to the famous Bakewell pudding. Haddon Hall is close by, as is the historic village of Eyam with its selection of pubs, cafes and a craft centre, meaning a day out in the parish of Curbar can be enjoyed by all.
