A minor issue with the downstairs toilet light which was fixed promptly. Ideal venue for our family get together with the Inn on the Tay Highland chocolatier and the Grandtully hotel on your doorstep for celebration meals

Comfy and welcoming after long walks in the area. Both village restaurants are highly recommended. The Inn on the Tay for great quality casual dining and the Grandtully Hotel for absolutely stunning food! Hot chocolate at The Chocolatier is a must too! A visit to The Hot Box (early booking a must, it’s popular

  • "A beautiful cottage in a great location."

We had a super week, the beds are comfy and the power showers are brilliant! The cottage has everything you need and is a really good size. The log burner made it super cozy. The location was great for access to the A9 so easy to get anywhere for days out. We would highly recommend this cottage and we will no doubt return, this part of Scotland is our favourite place! Thank you.

  • "No welcome pack, just a folder of don't do this don't do that Not welcoming at all."

You can bring 1 dog but it has to sleep in a utility room with a washing machine and a toilet. Bed not comfortable at all , couches to low and it could do with more hand rails on the stairs and it was cold there are logs provided but too bit to fit in the log burner. There was damp in the bedroom and mold on the shower upstairs.

Thanks for your feedback. The welcome folders - there are two - detail how to make the most of your stay at the house and in the area. I am sorry you did not find the dog bed that is in the lounge room facing out over the rear garden. It was located directly in front of the French window. Re: adult beds you should be aware that the mattresses are either Simba brand or sourced from John Lewis. We chose to make a significant investment in bedding and mattresses in particular as this is an important comfort feature. It appears it was not to your liking which is a shame. The handrails are original to the house. Health and safety inspections have confirmed there is no need for them to be supplemented. The logs provided are in the lounge. The basket under the car port contains logs which are still to be cut down in size to keep "starter" supplies stocked for guests. More logs can be purchased locally in Aberfeldy. We are aware of a damp patch in a built in wardrobe but unfortunately, to date, we have had no joy sourcing a tradesman who will complete the works. We shall continue to work on finding a qualified person who can complete a full repair. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay as much as others who have appreciated the quality brands, furnishings, and well stocked kitchen which make up the many features of the house and garden. We could not recommend the Old Schoolhouse more highly, a great location to explore Scotland from on foot, or to venture further afield from in the car, and at the end of the day after a day out in the fresh air, a great place to come back to and relax. We loved it, our kids loved it!

  • "The Old School house is a delightful property, roomy bright spotlessly clean and with the most comfortable bed that just swallows you up and sends you sleep ."

A large sitting room with two comfortable settees and a high back chair, lovely to relax after a days walking and exploring, then from the kitchen down a few steps to the garden room which opens out onto the garden, excellent for warn summer evenings.Everything I you could wish for. Outside is a large enclosed garden, beautifully kept with plenty of parking for at least two cars. The owners have thought of everything from a pair of wellies to spare dog walking leashes and more. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We had a great time at the Old School House."

Fantastic property, lovely garden, nothing negative to say at all, would highly recommend. Everything you could want from a holiday let and more, one of the most comfortable and cleanest we've stayed in. Beautiful area of Scotland we've been many times and never get tired of it. Lots of places to see and do. Will hopefully return next year.

  • "Excellently located cottage to explore all that Perthshire has to offer."

The cottage itself was very well appointed (and has been recently, and fully, updated) with fully enclosed grounds; it was the right size for a family of 4 (with a dog) too. Owner’s property instructions (including their do’s and don’ts, which were articulate and very fair) and tips for the local area were excellent. Recommended and we would definitely stay again.

  • "Nice cottage but a few issues: 1."

Dog poo (not our own dog) on the lawn (by the bench at the top of the garden) upon arrival. Also when we arrived, the dishwasher still had items in and the tumble dryer was on. Not necessarily the owners fault, but not a good first impression! 2. No light bulbs in the lamp in the main bedroom. We sent a text message about this to one of the numbers supplied by the owner but received no reply. 3. This is a dog friendly cottage, however where is the dog meant to sleep? Our dog sleeps in the kitchen at home, but this was impossible at the cottage as there is no ‘barrier’ between kitchen and stairs / route to upstairs. As the dog was not permitted upstairs it would’ve been a good idea to provide a child / dog gate at the base of the stairs. This would obviously help with those staying with children too. The very small utility was not a good place for our dog to sleep at night and he (and we) were not happy at spending the week in there…..it was barely big enough for his bed, let alone his crate and water bowl! 4. Very tiny downstairs shower and un-usable basin. In reality this is a one bathroom cottage…..especially as you can’t access it at night as the door is blocked with dog bed! 5. The gardener turned up unannounced to mow the lawn on a day when we were all sat in the garden….it would’ve been good to get some sort of warning / note in the information booklet about what day and when the gardener was due to arrive. On the plus side, the location was very good, the cottage itself is of a good size and the garden is very nice to sit in. Good to have parking for two cars and nice to have the external power supply for my plug in hybrid car.

  • "Outstanding decor and comfort."

Would point out the following as requested by owners. 1. Dishwasher not working on arrival, (repaired within 4 days) 2. Carpet in sun lounge not cleaned properly thick with dark coloured dog hair uplifted one shovel full of dog hair (photographed to substantiate) 3. Toilet seat upstairs not secured needs repaired. 4. Downstairs toilet hot tap insecure needs permanent fixture. Toilet roll holder ready to come off wall. 5. Would be helpful to have outside drying facility 6. Comfortable garden furniture would be appreciated.

Gloria, Many thanks for highlighting all this. All topics now fully addressed. The house is prone to little knocks and bruises and we do our best to keep on top of them. Glad you found the house comfortable during your stay. Les Property Owner

  • "Thank you. Very nice."

Whether for a few days or a few weeks, lots to see around the area. Easy travel to Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld and Perth. If you have a dog, it'll be as much a holiday for them. Contained garden that our pup would have stayed out all day. He loved the gorgeous walks to next to the river where he chased Red Squirrels, Pheasants and Deer most mornings. Visit the Birks of Aberfeldy or get off to Ossians Cave in Dunkeld. For a dog friendly hostelry you can't better the Inn on the Tay. Will be worth another visit for us.

  • "The sofas in the main sitting room are quite uncomfortable - not a lot of support."

Other cottages I have rented have provided the first basket of logs for the wood burner. We arrived following a power cut and would have welcomed the ability to light the log burner immediately. Other than that the cottage was perfect.

  • "It is a lovely traditional cottage, decorated tastefully which makes it feel quite luxurious."

Cleaning was reasonable but socks and toiletries left by other holidayers etc isn’t very reassuring when you arrive for your stay. The instructions regarding bins/what you can flush down the toilet etc. we found to be very aggressive and would have preferred a gentler approach to getting the message across.

The property

This attractive, stone-built cottage lies in the rural village of Grandtully, close to the River Tay in Perthshire.

The Old Schoolhouse is a lovely choice for families, providing a heart-warming base to return to each evening, with a lawned garden where you can sit out and take in the day’s events.

Internally, the property features a large kitchen where the chef of the group can get acquainted amongst a host of appliances, including an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge, while the others can prepare the oak dining table for a sumptuous feast.

When it comes to unwinding, head to the sitting room where you can take comfort next to the woodburning stove whilst catching up on your favourite shows, or make use of the sun lounge and challenge each other to a family boardgame.

As the evening comes to a close, choose from three well-presented bedrooms to catch your rest; a king-size and two double rooms are on offer, each completed with soft furnishings and a good amount of storage space for your personal belongings.

Allow your pooch to stretch their legs in the enclosed garden whilst you kick back on the patio furniture and soak up the last of the evening sunshine.

Nestled on the banks of River Tay you will find a local pub and restaurant, and across the street lies the Grantully Hotel both with excellent restaurants and bars which are perfect on those nights you don’t fancy cooking.

Grandtully is also home to an award-winning chocolate artisan at Iain Burnett’s Highland Chocolatier, as well as a convenience store where you can pick up any essentials.

Venture to the small town of Aberfeldy, where you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor adventures; take on white-water rafting, abseiling, gorge walking or canoeing or simply spend an afternoon wandering the Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery or Aberfeldy Watermill.

For a delightful escape to Perthshire, choose The Old School as a base that you’ll be delighted to return to.
