The only downside was the lack of any TV.

Glad you enjoyed the stay. I will add instructions to make it clearer how to use the tv and free view box Property Owner

The house is spacious and pleasantly decorated with a modern bathroom and en suite shower room, good sized rooms. Plenty of books, board games and choice of maps to help you choose a walk in the local countryside.- there are huge amount of walks from the doorstep of the property. The town has several excellent bakers shops,a decent selection of pubs/restaurants with lots of local produce to sample.

  • "Very much enjoyed our stay, the village is lovely and friendly with lots of facilities."

The house was warm and clean on our arrival. There are a few things that need fixing such as dead lightbulbs in the kitchen and living room. Most of the kitchen draws and cupboards are off their hinges, not a major issue but at the price point of the cottage not really good enough. Also no visitors book, no info about the history of the house or the area, this may be covid related? Finally a welcome pack would have been nice. All in all a nice cottage but I think a little overpriced compared to other cottages we have stayed in for what you get.

The property

Within striking distance of the Tay Forest Park and the majestic River Tay lies Springwells, an exceptional holiday accommodation, formerly a smokehouse, resting just moments from the town centre of Dunkeld.

If you and your loved ones are seeking a beautifully-appointed space to temporarily call home, then this three-storey cottage is perfect for you, with an array of great things to do beckoning.

Enter the property via a couple of steps down and into the kitchen, where the traditional AGA takes centre stage before an array of appliances required for a family holiday, including a handy washing machine and a dishwasher to keep the space clutter free!

Next is the dining room, a formal space where you can enjoy the company of your loved ones over a home-cooked dish or a local takeaway, with the electric fire offering a gentle warmth.

At the end of each bracing day, head up to the first floor to discover the sitting room, a cosy space where you can delve into a good book or flick through the channels of the TV, with the open fire setting the ambiance on a winter’s eve.

The first floor landing also grants access to a sleek family bathroom featuring both a bath and walk-in shower and the master bedroom, boasting a double bed and its own en-suite shower room.

Concluding the interior of the cottage is another double bedroom and the family bedroom, where a plush double bed and two single beds await, this is ideal for a couple with young children.

To the outside, find a two off-road parking space and access to the shared grounds, so that your canine companions can stretch their legs ahead of an action-packed day of exploring.

Just a short stroll away are a number of amenities, including tearooms owned by a Bake Off finalist, coffee shops, bars and restaurants, in addition to shops for the essentials and the highly recommended Dunkeld Smoked Salmon, where you can pick up Scotland’s wild and superior smoked salmon for your home-cooked dishes!

Whilst here, be sure to visit the imposing Dunkeld Cathedral, which features the tomb of the notorious 'Wolf of Badenoch'.

Meander along the River Tay for some stunning views of the famous Thomas Telford's Dunkeld Bridge, before spying the bright little houses, some of which are in the care of National Trust for Scotland.

Tay Forest Park is within striking distance of the cottage, where you will find a varied patchwork of forests, featuring some of Scotland's finest views and most impressive trees, as well as walking opportunities for all ages.

The Hermitage is also within easy reach, where you can follow the paths leading to the impressive Black Linn Falls, before visiting Ossian’s Hall, which was built in 1757 and since refurbished with mirrors, sliding panels and paintings.

Loch Of The Lowes nature reserve is also nearby, as is the beautiful village Birnam, famed by its mention in Shakespeare’s Macbeth and home to Dunsinane Hill, where the ancient Birnam Oak stands as the only survivor of an attack by Malcolm III on Macbeth.

Bring your loved ones to Springwells to share a wonderful break in Scotland.

About the location

DUNKELD

Dunkeld 4 miles; Blairgowrie 12 miles; Pitlochry 13 miles; Perth 14 miles.

The River Tay flows through the small town of Dunkeld and there are plenty of places to enjoy the views, either from the cathedral gardens or from the Taybank bar where you might be lucky enough to hear some impromptu music performed. The town itself dates from the 9th century and boasts a wealth of history from the Dark and Middle Ages to more recent history with Thomas Telford’s bridge over the Tay. The forests surrounding Dunkeld and nearby Birnam are known as Perthshire Big Tree Country and are celebrated in Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play”. The Hermitage is a National Trust site of beautiful forest which contains Ossian’s Hall of Mirrors, a folly built as a tribute to the 3rd century blind poet Ossian on a rocky outcrop near the Black Linn waterfalls. With the Loch Of The Lowes nature Reserve nearby and also the Victorian village of Birnam with its famous Birnam Oak and a Beatrix Potter exhibition marking her regular visits to the village, this area is one of the most spectacular and varied in Scotland and well worth a visit.
