Laura Jayne is a wonderful friendly host and nothing is too much for her. Rosie and Fleur love the garden and surrounding area. The hot tub is an absolute dream. Our second stay in the Bothy and we are booked for next year already. You need to book early to get in. That says a lot for this cottage. It’s my happy place. Xx

Hot tub a bonus. Lovely private garden, very safe if you have a dog. The owner Laura-Jane was lovely, unobtrusive but there if you needed anything. Directions to property need amending, told us to take A954 to Dundee and pass Belmont Arms, when actually it was the B954 and the pub is called The Junction. Will definitely stay there again if we are staying in that area.

  • "Well equipped cottage with lovely garden."

Hot tub was an added bonus! Location was great, nearby dog walks too. There are dogs in neighbouring cottages which did bark as we passed, no real issue but might be for very nervous dogs. Lovely rainfall shower, well stocked kitchen, and great decking area. Laura Jane introduced herself when she was in her garden and was lovely, checked all was OK. Bring bird food with you to stock the feeders and you'll enjoy watching them - I should have prepared for this. Definately recommend this cottage

  • "The property was as described and we enjoyed our stay."

We didn’t use the hot tub and perhaps this should be offered as an option so that if it is not used, the cost of making it available is saved. We noted the request to keep the bathroom ventilated and quickly understood why as we had some wet weather and the atmosphere outside was noticeably damp to us. Perhaps the bathroom should have an independent electric radiator that can be left on when the rest of the heating is not needed, just a thought. It is a lovely property and suited our needs well. The area has a lot to offer and we had no difficulty filling our days. The area is generally quite flat and the side roads are well signed for walking and cycling. There is good information in the Bothy about local walking and cycling routes. Recommended.

Absolutely beautiful and magical hidden treasure. The Bothy was immaculate on my arrival, milk in the fridge and fresh baked loaf left …perfect!! Magical place which is not overlooked in anyway….listening to the wildlife in the hot tub late at night with glass of bubbles knowing my dog was safe mooching around the garden…

It was spotlessly clean and Laura-Jayne, our extremely kind and friendly host, ensured everything was in place for our comfort and enjoyment. The gloriously peaceful, enosed garden was just perfect as our dog could wander around without fear of escape. It has a lawned area, a decking area with a bistro set and a beautiful orchard which was a mass of knee high daisies. It really looked glorious with the sun shining through as we sat listening to the birds. The hot tub was a real bonus to come back to after a day exploring the area. There are lovely walks at the bottom of the drive through woods and on to the old railway lines. We would thoroughly recommend it and if you are lucky enough to book you will not be disappointed.

The Bothy itself is a relaxing and comfortable place to base yourself. The large garden with many visiting birds and hot tub is a delight. The log fire was just what we needed at the end of a chilly day. There’s plenty to do in the local area, especially if you are looking for a walking holiday or into nature and wildlife. Quite a few places were closed for the winter but this didn’t spoil it for us, the gorgeous Scottish countryside more than made up for it. I’d definitely recommend staying at the Ralston Bothy if you’re looking for a cosy retreat in this part of the world.

The owner was there if needed but not intrusive and very friendly. Loved the garden with all the birds and of course the hot tub which after a walk on a winters day was perfect. The little touches make such a difference and shows thoughtfulness for eg: the flowers, bread, milk etc. It was exceptionally clean and tidy. Nice large bathroom with excellent shower and very hot water. Beautiful log burner which on a winters night was perfect. The only negative and it's not too important is, could do to have a slightly larger T.V. Because we were there in February it was nice to watch T.V in the evening. But probably in summer would be out in the garden or walking. It's handy for lots of surrounding walking, places to visit and Dundee. Would definitely come back!

The cottage was clean and practical with a lovely kitchen that had such wonderful natural light! The Bothy, garden and orchard were perfect for our old dog, who could roam securely and sleep under the apple trees as she wanted. We topped up the feeders religiously( such a lovely touch to leave bird feed for us to use) and were rewarded with an abundance of birds and a visiting rabbit. Even a kestrel came and made an appearance in the garden, although the house martins weren't happy about it! The hot tub was a sublime luxury. Perfectly positioned so that it was completely private, we used it daily! Located perfectly for a day trip to Dundee to see 'Discovery' and the V&A museum and also to visit the wonderful Glamis Castle and to do the spectacular Snow Roads Scenic Route through Balmoral etc-a very long drive but the most stunning driving route ever and so worth doing. Laura-Jayne was a very considerate host. She completely respected our privacy, which we valued but was quickly contactable if necessary. The only thing wrong was not being able to stay longer! Newtyle Post Office & Village Store is only a mile from the Bothy and stocks most day to day items, ensuring that you never run out of anything.

Spend a magical evening star gazing or settle in the hot tub with a refreshing drink overlooking the orchard and secluded garden.

At day end what could be better than a lovely hot rain shower in the large spacious bathroom before retiring to spend a comfortable night in the sumptuous bothy double bed as you reflect on the day’s memories.

The Bothy is surrounded by interesting, and easily accessible, disused railway lines (first railway in the North of Scotland 1831-1863) and woodland walks which are managed by the Newtyle Path Network or challenge yourselves as you venture to the top of Kinpurnie Hill and its lookout tower.

From here you can witness the most spectacular views of the Valley of Strathmore with the distant Cairngorms in the background.

If you prefer to cycle, the Bothy provides storage for bikes.

If you don’t have a bike, but you would quite like the opportunity to try a local cycle route, you can hire electric bikes from The Cycle Hub in the nearby town of Coupar Angus.

There are plenty of cycle friendly roads directly from the Bothy and a number of popular cycle routes further afield which cater for all abilities.

It is a great way to see the beautiful scenery and wildlife as you travel along the various routes.

If you feel a little more adventurous why not visit Piperdam Leisure Resort near Dundee and Willowgate Activity Centre near Perth who both provide a number of outdoor and indoor activities from quad bike trails to kayaking tours on the River Tay.

Three nearby golf courses, Alyth Golf Club, Strathmore Golf Centre and Glenisla Golf Course will all challenge your golfing skills.

Distillery tours and tastings are very popular, with Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry and Dewars Distillery in Aberfeldy both full of character.

The closest place for a casual meal, lunchtime or evening, is The Ardler Tavern which is only 2 miles from the Bothy.

This traditional tavern provides freshly prepared meals using local produce and has a tempting collection of local ales to sample as well as a number of other refreshments to enjoy.

Strathmore Valley is steeped in history and well worth exploring.

Glamis Castle, the home of the Earl of Strathmore and where the Queen Mother was born, is a must to visit as is Scone Palace near Perth, where all the Scottish Kings were crowned.

Pictish Stones at nearby Meigle and the village of Kirriemuir, where novelist JM Barrie the creator of the much loved children’s character Peter Pan was born.
