“Fantastic cottage set in a nice rural (but walkable to town) location.”

Some great walks local, no need to take the car. Fantastic for the dogs.

The property

Railway Cottage is a detached cottage in a quiet location on a working farm, situated in Newtyle, Scotland.

The interior has been thoughtfully restored, making good use of the space with an open-plan living area.

The lounge has a sofa and armchair facing a flat screen TV, completed with a lovely woodburning stove for those cosy family nights in.

There is a wonderfully appointed kitchen which has sleek grey tiles and granite worktops showcasing a lovely set of fitted units.

The dining area has a large table and chairs for up to six people.

This family-friendly cottage is all ground floor, and offers three bedrooms: one double which can be made into two singles if needed, with an en-suite shower room, a double bedroom and finally one single bedroom with a pull out bed for additional flexibility.

All rooms have ample storage space for your personal belongings and have a light decor, giving the property a bright and welcoming feel throughout.

Outside has a lawned garden and stone area, with off road parking for two cars available.

There is a fabulous footpath network nearby with plenty of cycle friendly roads around Newtyle and the Angus Glens.

You can walk straight into the woods, hills and into the village straight from the cottage.

The cottage lies near the Old Dundee and Newtyle Railway line which opened in 1831 and closed in 1863 - the first railway in the North of Scotland!

Why not visit Glamis Castle only 7 miles away, witnessing a thousand years of history with parts dating back to the 14th Century and home to the current Earl of Strathmore?

Alternatively head south to the red sandstone Scone Palace, with late Georgian Gothic style architecture, it is a great place to spend the day finding out about this magnificent Palace finished in 1808.

Also nearby is one of 3 golf courses in the area, one being Alyth Golf Club, established in 1895 and won 'Best course for under £50' back in 2015, and features a 18-hole course and the newly opened 9-hole Glenisla course in 2016.

V&A Dundee, sat right on the Dundee harbour, is free to visit and open 7 days a week, and certainly worth a visit with its eye catching exterior and abundance of activities inside.

Railway Cottage is an excellent cottage for those family breaks.

About the location

Kirriemuir 12 miles; Dundee 12 miles.

The village of Newtyle is situated equal distance between the town of Kirriemuir and the city of Dundee. Newtyle has a shop, Post Office, a pub, church and an award-winning butcher. Nearby Kirriemuir is a lovely red sandstone town in the valley of Strathmore, regarded as the gateway to the Angus Glens, which offer some of Scotland's most unspoiled landscape. The town is home to the birthplace of novelist JM Barrie, creator of the much-loved children's character Peter Pan and the house is now a museum looked after by the National Trust for Scotland. A statue of Peter Pan can be found in the town. Kirriemuir also offers an Aviation Museum and the historic Pictish Stones at Meigle, while the Angus Glens offer great hill walking and climbing. With a fine variety of shops, hotels and pubs in the town and surrounding area, there is something here to suit all tastes.
