  • "It always helps to have access to the owner if, like us, you find modern technology a frustration - every heating system and every tv system in the world appears to be designed to be incomprehensible - and it helps further if the owner has a soft Scottish accent and a patient tone."

He and Gail seem to have thought of everything except the quality of the chips from the Chinese Takeaway - awful. Lovely spot, access to all kinds of other lovely spots. Great for a short break.

  • "Amazing property, very dog friendly!"

Our two doggys loved staying! Lovely walk along the river nearby and the bed was very comfy. The living room is super cosy and has lovely little homely touches. We will definitely be back!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

The Wee Hideaway was clean, comfortable, warm and with very pleasant decor. Although it is on the main road we weren’t troubled by traffic or other noise. We brought two dogs and appreciated the park and walk along the estuary being within easy reach. We got a very pleasant taster of Fife. Thank you.

  • "This is a little gem in a very quiet village."

The property has a brilliant shower, fully equipped kitchen and a cosy, comfy lounge. Our only gripes were the bed was very small and the lack of parking as we had to park in a dedicated car park about 400yards away up a bank. Communication is excellent and the property is situated with good surrounding walks. However the lack of gastro-pubs in Newburgh and the nearby areas is terrible. You must travel at least 10 miles to find a decent eating pub. We can highly recommend the Bear Tavern on the high street for drinks and good banter with the locals, but apart from that Newburgh does not offer much.

  • "This beautiful cottage was just amazing, so quiet and catered for every need, very comfortable bed, very clean, log burning fire, which we used every night!"

local pubs and shops, we were left a welcome pack on arrival which was so kind and thoughtful. Thank you for a lovely holiday in this scenic, tranquil part of the country, if we would move here permanently we would!

  • "We had a lovely stay at the property…very relaxing 2 night stay."

The owners have used the space really well. The log fire was lovely, snacks left for us were a nice touch too. It would have been 5 stars, and we would have returned again if it wasn’t for the bed…anyone 6ft tall like myself or over will struggle to fit into it. The frame at the end of the bed meant that my feet were smacked against it, and it was difficult to get to sleep due to that. So I ended up not sleeping well for 2 nights..but apart from the bed, everything else was great!

  • "A lovely, cosy little upper cottage in a quaint wee village surrounded by rolling hills, woodland and fantastic riverside walks."

The accommodation was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The town has a number of shops, library, bakery, gallery and a couple of pubs. One of the pubs is the friendliest I’ve ever been in!! I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to unwind in comfortable and stylish surroundings.

To describe it as self catering is not what I would call it unless you are prepared to take everything you need to cook with you and I mean EVERYTHING

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased that you found The Wee Hideaway to be warm and comfortable, but we are sorry to hear you did not find everything required in the kitchen. We have not had this feedback from any other guests, however, we have added a few further items to make future guests visits as comfortable as possible. Property Owner

About the location

NEWBURGH, FIFE

St. Andrews 20.1 miles; Cupar 10.5 miles

The royal burgh and parish of Fife is an agricultural community positioned alongside the salmon fishing waters of the River Tay, overlooking the marshy Mugdrum Island. To the east lies the ancient Lindores Abbey, a historical and overgrown ruin left to be uncovered. There are plenty of attractions nearby such as, the Lindores Abbey Distillery for whisky lovers, the National Trust's Balmerino Abbey with its atmospheric 13th-century ruins and the Backhouse Rossie Estate, an RHS Partner Garden with rare plants, woodland walking and children's trails. The Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve at Morton Lochs offers something for everyone, an ever changing landscape with seals hauling themselves out of the water, hungry birds looking for food and a rich variety of nature's wonders. Though the village of Newburgh may be small, there are many treasures drawing in visitors; the remains of Macduff's Cross are a historical landmark to discover, Newburgh Sailing Club and Laing Museum featuring antiquarian artefacts of Newburgh's Alexander Laing. This delightful location is one for adventurous visitors seeking a rejuvenating break to the Fife countryside.
