  • "Loved the fact it was so quiet and peaceful."

Was not too keen on the long, single track road to reach the property especially when meeting large vehicles coming the other way!

  • "It's a lovely, well-appointed cottage in very peaceful surroundings."

The castle grounds are wonderful. We saw carpets of snowdrops, and I would imagine the rhododendrons will be just as spectacular later in the season. If, as we did, you want to dine out, the local Dunblane taxi driver was very efficient. Our only complaint was that there was no heating on for our arrival, and although the underfloor heating does become very effective, it is not quick

  • "A lovely cottage with comfortabler furniture and bed and very good facilities."

The underfloor central heating was very effective in ensuring a cosy stay. The environs are really lovely with a small ravine below and tree lined avenue on the approach to the castle which lies 100 metres beyond the converted farm buildings where we stayed.

The location was good for visiting various attractions, which made it a good base. The cottage was located in a quiet area and so after a day's sightseeing it was a pleasure to return to and take in the beautiful countryside. We visited with our French friends, it was their first visit to Scotland and they were not disappointed they loved it.

The basic food items left for us on arrival were much appreciated, we could manage without going to the shops until the next day. Good location for us to explore the amazing scenery of Trossachs and local area. We were able to take a couple of photos of the red squirrels that visit the garden most days. Very enjoyable holiday.

Bed was a little hard but maybe my preference, shower had low pressure and couldn't adjust temp, but there were alternatives available so had a few baths. Lovely decor, appreciated welcoming touches, having basic food in the fridge, milk etc. Good access to nearby A roads and motorway. Central location with good access to the East and West. All in all enjoyed my stay and holiday. Cottage is surrounded by wildlife and very tranquil. Cottage is all on one level and suitable for people with mobility problems like myself. Drive is gravel and there are two small steps into the doorway.

  • "What an absolutely gorgeous location and beautiful cottage!"

The cottage was immaculately presented and filled to bursting with essentials and more which were greatly appreciated. Tesco actually deliver to the cottage so we’d done an order but half of the things were already provided! The fridge was stocked with milk, eggs, butter and cheese as well as bread and shortbread fingers provided too. There were also hand wash, cleaning products, dishwasher tablets and washing products to be used in the washing machine and even more! Two bedrooms are at either side of the living area with a bathroom in each and comfortable beds, bedding and towels. There is also A LOT of storage space- essential for us as a family of four. The overall attention to detail was second to none with jigsaws, books and DVDs readily available for your entertainment but the setting is so beautiful so losing yourself in the nearby nature is really all you need. The location is great for access to many attractions that are within driving distance and is close to the motorway. Blair Drummond Safari Park is one of the closest and a great trip, especially for children. The only downside to this cottage is that the underfloor heating takes a while to warm up but also a while to cool down so we struggled to get the right temperature. Also, the hot water runs very hot so you need to take great care of you have children with you. Overall a fantastic cottage and it would be hard to be anything other than pleased with it.

Thank you for your review. We will try to remedy the couple of hiccups. Property Owner

  • "The Garden Cottage is a lovely little home from home - very well equipped with everything you could need."

The kitchen area had lots of pots, pans and crockery - and having a dishwasher and washing machine is lovely when having a busy holiday visiting the area. Having a DVD player and the internet keeps the kids happy - although I would recommend taking a copy of Braveheart to ignite their imagination about William Wallace and Robert the Bruce before visiting Bannockburn and Stirling Castle / bridge etc. (even if it is a Hollywood version). Take time to walk around the grounds surrounding the cottage, they are beautiful - we saw red squirrels and three little deer grazing on the hills, as well as the highland cows who were in the field outside our bedroom window every morning. The only advice, is take a toilet roll (minor comment) - it is literally the only thing we really needed to see us through the first night and morning ! We were greeted with cheese, butter, milk, bread, eggs and shortbread - a good breakfast for the first morning, and there is salt, pepper, oil etc to help with any cooking. Would definitely recommend.

The grounds are picturesque, quiet but conveniently located. Our location meant that we we already located close to a lot of wonderful attractions such as the highlands and even though provisions had been left for us a supermarket is close by. We were lucky enough to have snow during our stay and one of the staff cleared our step and popped past to let us know the roads were safe. The cottage was cosy and warm, and well appointed. The addition of a washing machine was much appreciated as we have been traveling. The two bathrooms and well equipped kitchen really did make it feel like a home away from home. Stay! You won't regret it!.

  • "The House could have been perfect for our needs, but there were too many niggling complaints which together added up to something more significant."

Some issues are instantly remediable but others are not. In the interests of proper feedback to assist in improvement for future guests, herewith my list off comments. 1) On arrival one bathroom had not been properly cleaned, with hairs and dust on the floor. The toilet had to be cleaned by us. 2) Both toilet seats were very loose, not to say precarious. 3) The fridge is too small and inadequate for four people staying a week or more. 4) The freezer compartment had clearly not been defrosted for some time and consequently the door would not shut. 5) In one bedroom there was zero storage space, no wardrobe or chest of drawers.. 6) The bathrooms had no shaving sockets which, given the lack of mirrors elsewhere, was a problem. There were no mirrors in the bedrooms making hair drying also a problem. 7) There were only three metal teaspoons (for four people?) 8) No salad or other bowls or plastic containers and no means to spin, dry lettuce. 9) On arrival there were no dishwasher tabs or powder, no plastic liners for the bins, no oil or salt to start us off, no proper cleaning cream for the cooker. 10) In one bathroom the ventilator fan did not switch off at all. On a positive note, we loved the layout of the house, very comfortable, and there were some starter items such as butter, biscuits. If 1) - 10) could be somehow improved, the rating would be much higher

  • "We (two from New Zealand + two from Holland) were thrilled to bits with this lovely, warm, comfortable cottage."

The owners were very pleasant and left us a complimentary welcome of oatcakes & cheese! The only thing we found a little 'off' was that the non-stick pans had been used wrongly (never use metal utensils in a teflon-coated pan!) and the teflon was damaged at the edges. Also the stove should only be cleaned with special cleaning cream, but had been damaged by scouring or something. Pity about that! The owners had gone to so much trouble to make everything as comfortable as possible... We loved our stay and intend definitely to return. It's the perfect holiday cottage for two couples, or a couple with two children. Waking up in the morning to see the cows in the field out the back windows, and all the birds flitting around is just so good! I could live there!

About the location

DUNBLANE

Stirling 5.9 miles; Perth 28.5 miles; Edinburgh 41.6 miles; Glasgow 31.3 miles

Dunblane is a small cathedral town situated six miles north of Stirling just off the A9 road which has been bypassed since 1991. Its main landmark is Dunblane Cathedral and the Allan Water runs through the town centre, with the Cathedral and the High Street on the east side. The nearby Victorian spa town of Bridge of Allan three miles away is a former spa town at the foot of the Ochil Hills near Stirling. It is named after the Allan Water, which flows through the town and on into the River Forth. With a history dating back to the Iron Age, the village formed in the 16th century when the ford was replaced by a stone bridge and mining of copper, silver and gold took place in the hills above. Today, the main street bears Alexander Henderson’s name and the town is prosperous and home to Stirling University, a golf club and many shops and restaurants. So much of central Scotland is within easy reach of Dunblane, and it has good road and rail links to Glasgow, Edinburgh and St Andrews. The beautiful scenery of this area makes it a haven for walkers, cyclists, anglers and nature lovers, and golfers are especially well served with Gleneagles about 20 minutes' drive away, along with Carnoustie and St Andrews, about an hour’s drive away. The Ochil Hills are on the doorstep, and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park a short drive to the north. Also nearby is the city of Stirling, Scotland’s youngest city and yet one that has so much history, specifically Mary Queen of Scots and William Wallace, with the historic Stirling Castle and the National Wallace Monument being well worth a visit. Dunblane offers an excellent central touring location, while closer to home is the historic Bridge of Allan.
