Very Covid friendly. Kathleen and John are the owners and the property is a credit to them. They left many provisions to get us started which were most appreciated - thank you!! We have been in so many self catering properties over the years and this was most certainly one of the best. Milton of Balgonie is also very centrally situated to visit many areas including Fife where we had never been before. We loved the fishing villages and also returned once again to Arbroath to a restaurant where they sell wonderful Smokies. This was for our 45th Wedding Anniversary and Husband's Birthday. Do go, you won't be disappointed!

“We enjoyed our stay at the cottage, which was very comfortable with excellent safety features as well as adjusting to needs of current Covis crisis.”

. The property had everything you could possibly need and there was adequate cleaning materials provided for kitchen and bathrooms. We did not use garden facilities mainly because of weather and plans to visit nearby places, but lovely private area, dining furniture and sun house would be appreciated in warmer weather. The location is quiet and the village itself only has one little pub/restaurant but it was easy to travel to popular places nearby. A lovely gesture by our hosts were some complimentary breakfast items in fridge. Would have no hesitation in recommending as long as people are prepared to take short drives to local tourist areas. Our booking and communications with the owner were excellent would use this company again.

“Wow!!!”

! What a WONDERFUL cottage we were lucky enough to have stayed in for a week starting 13th December 2019. The thoughtful owners even dressed a big Xmas tree for us as well as Xmas lights at the front of the house to greet us upon our daily return. It was lovely to explore the area and just as nice to return to a cosy, warm and clean house. The Bungalow exceeded expectations as although it looked small from the outside, it was huge inside. The owners, John and Kathleen left us a very welcome food gift pack which was devoured and enjoyed. In the beautiful garden we had a resident Robin who enjoyed the crumbs we threw out and it was a joy to watch him chase away other birds who tried to pinch his food. The house was very well equipped and so comfy. We give it ten * as 5* is just not enough. Many many thanks.

“This was by far the best holiday home we've ever stayed in.”

Stayed for one week and couldn't have been more comfy. The welcome from John was lovely as well as the welcome gift which was delightful. The house was cosy and perfect for our 1 year old. Travel cot and high chair supplied, lots of games and toys. The showers were spectacular! Would definitely recommend this place and hope to stay again one day.

A lovely garden and patio with seating areas. Car parking outside the front door, a lovely welcome pack and a friendly greeting on arrival from the owner. All the shopping and big supermarkets are 2 miles away in Glenrothes and a good choice of places to eat out nearby. Highly recommend a stay here.

“This is probably the most well equipped cottage we have stayed in, absolute comfort and a lovely rear garden with patio seating.”

Easy to get to, and you can park right outside the front door. There is a regular main line train service to Edinburgh, and Aberdeen (to visit Loch Ness) from Markinch (approx. 1.5miles down the road). Perfect for visiting local landmarks around Edinburgh and Falkirk.

Idea for people with mobility issues. Grab rails in shower, no steps room, for walkers. Perfect in every way. Owners very helpful and available if needed by phone or in person. Summer house for relaxation is wonderful. Games to play on the lovely lawn. What more can I say! Just superb.

Comfort: we felt very much at home here from Day 1 as we had plenty of space for 2 couples and having 2 bath/shower rooms was great. Facilities: the house had everything we needed for our stay. Location: great as it's in Central Fife so easy to get to places of interest to the North, South, East or West, however I would say a car is essential to make the most of your stay. We would definitely stay here again.

“This is a beautiful cottage with excellent facilities.”

Very comfortable lounge area looking through patio doors to a well kept garden, sun loungers available and seating area for alfresco dinning and if you have children there is enough room for them to play safely whilst still in view. The kitchen is to a very high standard with everything you could need including dishwasher. The kitchen table was suitable for 4 people to have meals at but there is also a separate dinning room again to a high standard with a larger table.Bathroom was immaculately clean with both bath and separate shower. Bedrooms were very comfortable and the en-suite again to a high standard. The owner, Mr Skillen was there to meet and greet us and was available by telephone if needed and he lives in a nearby village. The cottage has on road parking right outside the front door on a very quite street and parking was never a problem. Easy access from here to many places of interest in the Fife and Perthshire areas, yet another beautiful part of Scotland. I can highly recommend this cottage.

We were met by John who showed us round and very kindly left us a welcome pack. The cottage has everything you could need, is very comfortable and very clean. There is a beautiful garden and we were lucky enough to have some good weather to enjoy it. It is a perfect location to visit other areas such as Edinburgh, St Andrews, Dundee etc. The train station in Markinch is close by and has free parking. We will definitely book this cottage again.

“We were met at the house by the owner who showed us round the house and where everything was which was welcome.”

There was a welcome pack for us. There were plenty of soft towels which were good quality and the beds and bed linen were also great. The garden was lovely with plenty of garden furniture and toys for children in the Wendy house. There was also access to a playing field with play equipment at the back. We never had any problem parking the cars right outside Our friend who is disabled found the level access throughout perfect for him as was the space in the large bathroom.

Centrally located in a quiet small village and very handy for local golf. St Andrews only 14 miles away. Markinch railway station is 2 miles from the cottage and within the hour you are in Edinburgh. A great choice.

“65 Main Street, Balgonie is an absolutely cracking wee cottage.”

Renovated & extended to a high standard with quality fittings, finishes & furnishings. The extensive garden has a paved patio area with table & seating, summer house with recliners, a children's playhouse with a selection of toys, lawns, plantings & a garden gate that opens directly onto a playing field with children's playpark. The cottage was immaculately clean & a very thoughtful Welcome Pack, with tea & breakfast goodies, was left for us by the owners John & Kathleen. Don't let the street-side location put you off, Balgonie is a quiet wee village bypassed by the main road & you can park your car right outside the door. There is a frequent bus service, with a stop virtually opposite the front door, which will have you at Markinch Train Station within 10 mins & a further 50 mins by train will see you in the center of Edinburgh - hassle free! There is also a lovely bar/restaurant a couple of hundred yards down the road at 43 Main Street, where I had the very best mushroom soup ever! Nearest supermarkets are less than 10 mins away in Glenrothes & there are lots of things to do & see nearby. The Secret Bunker is well worth a visit. I will certainly be recommending this cottage to any friends who are planning a stay in the Edinburgh/Fife area.

“We've had one of the very best family holidays here!”

The cottage itself is neatly and lovingly arranged with such stylish taste, and artfully decorated with bright colors and rustic paintings and pictures, to make you feel like this is a true home away from home! Everything inside the cottage, from the cutlery to the bedrooms, is spotlessly clean and polished, so you should never feel unsure when using any object at all. The garden also, is trimmed and tidy, with a huge green area for kids and older children to play in and enjoy the bright sunshine. In addition, there are toys for outdoor use to help children get active and sporty! This small, but wonderful village of Balgonie is very peaceful and clean and the people here are very friendly! There are breathtaking views all around, and an enormous amount of tourist attractions and locations to keep your family busy outdoors, such as ancient castles and cathedrals, boat rides beneath the famous bridges of Scotland, nature reserves, horse riding along the countryside, safaris, beaches and seasides and many, many more! The owners of this cottage deserve a round of applause and many thanks for all the things they have done to make this holiday the very best! I can assure you, even a five star hotel isn't as luxurious as this wonderful cottage. It has everything you would ever need for a fantastic holiday, and the owners are very kind and welcoming, they really make you feel like you are at home. Thank you very much for everything!

The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and we were very grateful for the lovely 'welcome pack' . The kitchen was excellently laid out, with everything you could possibly need for self catering. The garden is large and beautiful, and really was an added bonus. Before arriving at the location we were a little nervous of the cottage being on the side of the road, but in fact it was a fantastic location, easy to get out and about and very quiet. Beds were super comfy, and the bathrooms fitted out to a high standard. We cannot fault the property or owners in any way and will very likely visit the property again, when our son next races in Scotland.

Markinch 2 miles; Leven 5 miles; St Andrews 18 miles.

Milton of Balgonie is a small village approximately two miles from Markinch in Fife. Markinch has a railway station which services Edinburgh, Perth, Aberdeen and Dundee. Balbirnie House Hotel is situated in Markinch and has won on numerous occasions awards for the Scottish Wedding Venue of the Year. With the village's proximity to 'The Home of Golf' St Andrews is an ideal location for golf enthusiasts. There are numerous golf courses in the area. The local courses Balbirnie, which is in Markinch, Lundin Links, Leven, Ladybank, and the St Andrews courses with Kingsbarns, The Torrance and The Kittocks (both are situated at the Fairmont Hotel) are all in the vicinity. Also Gleneagles Golf Course is approximately 32 miles from Milton of Balgonie. Popular fishing villages are also within reach, including Elie, Pittenweem, Crail and Anstruther, where there is also an award-winning fish and chip shop, which include royalty and film stars as part of its clientele. There are a number of beaches along the Fife Coast starting at Leven. For a quieter location head for Lower Largo, the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk and the location is regarded as the inspiration for the novel Robinson Crusoe. Also Falkland Palace, which was the hunting lodge of the Stuart kings is situated approximately 8 miles from Milton of Balgonie.
