History buffs can explore the castle, the now ruined cathedral and the adjacent church of St Regulus, where you can climb the spiral staircase to the top of the 108ft tower for unbeatable views of the town and its surroundings.

St Andrews Links is the largest public golf complex in Europe and teeing off here immerses you in 600 years of sporting history.

Alternatively, stroll the sandy expanses of the St Andrews West Sands Beach and venture to the rest of the beautiful county of Fife where you’ll be rewarded by traditional fishing villages dotted along the coast, not to mention historical sites such as the splendid Falkland Palace & Gardens.

Visit the East Neuk of Fife for an exciting day exploring the scenic Scottish coastline, filled with sandy beaches, charming harbour towns and fresh seafood at stunning waterfront restaurants.

Take a day trip to Dundee shopping or to the famous Mills Observatory to discover breathtaking views of the stars and planets, here you will also find the RRS Discovery, the ship that took Scott and Shackleton to the Antarctic, and the famous Victoria & Albert Museum.

Discover beautiful sands and wildlife on the Coastal Path as well as historic fishing villages, whilst inland from Dundee you can discover the three glens of Clova, Isla and Prosen with breath-taking views, or visit Glamis Castle the childhood home of the Queen mother.

About the location

ST ANDREWS

Dundee 13 miles; Perth 35 miles; Edinburgh 50 miles.

St Andrews is Scotland's oldest university town and is situated in the north-east corner of the Kingdom of Fife. In this region, the landscape varies from the gentle hills in the rural hinterland to the windswept cliffs, rocky bays and sandy beaches where scenes from the film 'Chariots of Fire' were famously shot. The town is easily explored on foot, as the main streets form the hub of the town and offer an interesting mix of 13th century through to modern-day buildings, found alongside a variety of shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. The association of St Andrews with golf dates to the 15th century, with the famous 'Old Course' being constructed in the 16th century, whilst today, St Andrews is the frequent venue of championship events and boasts an additional five alternative public courses in the area as well as the excellent Golf Museum. To the south of St Andrews is the East Neuk, a region of quaint fishing villages, while Fife, Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh can all be easily reached.
