  • "Chaldon is a large property and sits in a great area to explore."

Plenty of space for a big family or even two families. Close to a pub and a clean beach. Long walks available in this area or easy enough just to sit down and relax. Be mindful of being close to a fairly busy road if you have loose pets or children. No problem coming back here though with loads more to explore and do.

  • "The house was nice and bright however attention to detail with cleanliness is lacking."

I cleaned the outside of the bread bin and it was filthy. I also cleaned the lounge table top and again, this was filthy. All windows are in need of a good clean. The lounge cushion covers are in need of replacement and the seating has all seen better days. When you sit on the two seater settee you fall in to the middle of it. There were no instructions in relation to the outside waste bins so it was difficult to know which bin to use. Both bins, sited next to the back door, were filthy and the smell was overpowering. We swept the back patio as it was covered in vegetation debris. The outside wooden bench couldn't be used as again, it was filthy. For a house that sleeps eight there were only two decent outside chairs to sit on. Overall the house was functional but it is in need of a good clean freshen up.

Dear Mrs D Thanks for your feedback. what I cannot understand is that .WHY did you not complain when you were there? It states that we are there to help and only live 1 1/2 miles away and the House keeper only stays 2 miles away. After the property is cleaned. My partner( who was a hotel owner and B&b owner) or I go in and inspect it. On this occasion it was me and I can assure you we look at everything. Good feed back is very important and I feel you could have lifted the phone and I would have come up to the property and seen it .Back obviously you decided on a different approach .I wonder why? Have a nice day. Property Owner

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

Sadly sleep was limited through no one’s fault other than the Highways Agency who decided to make overnight closures on the A1 and routed all traffic through poor little Coldingham…huge HGVs rumbling past all night wasn’t brilliant for anyone staying or living on that route. Put 3 in cleanliness as there was some mould in my en-suite shower and on the first evening a little water was spilt on the dining area floor which when mopped up did lead us to believe that the floor hadn’t been mopped for while. CHALDON is ideally suited for exploring the area. Coldingham has a wonderful butchers and very interesting antiques shop. Also a little bookshop run by volunteers. Excellent communication from the owner. Back visiting the area in June but sadly CHALDON is alsrrady booked.

  • "Fantastic holiday home, well equipped and very comfortable."

Kitchen superb, utility room invaluable when returning from beach. Enclosed garden great for the kids and the dog. Take care when turning into property as entrance tight. Regarding accuracy of listing: In bullet pointed section it says beach 30 minute walk however in fuller description of property it says 8 minutes. Definitely a 30 minute walk. Listing says ‘One well behaved pet welcome, second dog available on request with £20 charge’. However, when we added just 1 dog to our party we were charged £30. Listing should be amended to reflect this charge as we took from wording that one pet would be included in listed let price. Regarding property itself, one of the showers didn’t work properly and didn’t stay on unless you held button down the whole time when showering. This had been noted in the visitors comment book on more than one occasion but not yet repaired. A brilliant house for a family holiday in a great location.

Dear Kathryn In response to your comment on the shower not staying on. There is a power cord behind the door and when that’s engaged. The shower works perfectly. Just to keep you up to date. We are closeing the cottage for a week in October so that we can install a completely new boiler system . And this shall include a new shower in the other bathroom. The only reason for this is to be more fuel efficient Regards Jim and Sandra Property Owner

Lovely village, easy walking distance to shops, pub, chop shop and beautiful beach. Very big living room with comfortable sofa and nice big coffee table for games and jigsaws. Extremely well equipped, extra long washing line and outside tap came in very handy after kayaking and paddle boarding, we even spotted a whale and dolphins! Great place would recommend. Only downside for us was that the mattress was too thin in the main bedroom (with en- suite) so the slats were felt through it.

  • "The village is lovely there's a shop less than 5min walk that sells anything you may need (a little expensive, but not overly) there is also two pubs less than 5min walk (we would reccomend the New Inn, dog friendly and child friendly) staff are all fantastic and the food is lovely!"

The beach is a 15-30min walk depending on which route you take, we found lots of starfish and crabs at low tide, the kids loved it! Edinburgh is about an hour away, always worth a visit and the Christmas Market is on with all the festive lights (just stunning), Glasgow is a good 2hr drive but well worth the day out you have the transport museum, kelvin grove arr gallery (all free barring a donation) there's also some fantastic castles within a 2hr drive, it's a good location to allow you to explore! The property itself....its best feature is the living room it is nice and comfortable BUT take your own entertainment as there are no DVDs etc for kids, and the TV is basic so even if you have a Netflix account you cant use it, the kitchen is also a great room which is where we spent most of the time cooking and playing games (we brought our own, and would advise to do the same as there aren't any there), the bedrooms are adequate BUT they are small doubles (I'm 6'2") and because of the bed frame had to sleep on an angle and wasn't a very comfortable sleep, also NONE of the main bedrooms have ANY HANGING SPACE there is a chest of drawers and bedside cabinets, that's it! Only on of the bedrooms have a TV and that's also the room with the ensuite! There is a downstairs toilet at the entrance, but bath and shower facilities are all upstairs. The property also states enclosed gardens so we thought nothing of letting our dog out the back door on arrival after the long car journey, only to be greeted by him moments later at the front of the property (you can close the driveway gates) BUT the front hedges are NOT secure so if you have a small dog, or a curious big dog the can easily escape so I would be very vigilant when letting your pet out. It was an enjoyable break but I dont think we would return to this particular property....the area yes!

  • "This is an odd shaped house from the outside which hides the spaciousness once inside."

It is beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The beds and bedding are superior. Some maintenance is necessary, maybe because it is the end of the season. We would have felt responsible if the toilet roll holders had finally fallen off the wall, for example! Two downsides which other guests have commented on in the past - the roof over the master bedroom is very noisy in the frequent wind, and the garden is not secure (as advertised). Dogs can escape and cannot be left alone. The area is beautiful. The historic village is charming and very welcoming, and the sheltered beach is superb.

The house was everything we were hoping for and more: plenty of space for the five of us, and very attentive owners when one or two little things went wrong (a shower fitment and the fan oven). The location of the property was excellent, with Coldingham only a stone's throw away, with its local facilities and its charm, and the lovely beach just a bit further on. We were very sorry to have to leave, and wished we could have booked it for a fortnight rather than just a week.

No contact was made by the owner nor your company regarding this issue.
