  All appliances and controls worked and were easy to operate. It might benefit from slight rearrangement of the main room furniture so that the sofa could be nearer the television.

  Well situated for exploring the local area particularly for walking the Shropshire hills. The cottage is very comfortable and well-equipped. Beryl gave us a very warm welcome and was keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.

• "Beryl was the most delightful host possible."

  Made us feel so very welcome without being intrusive. The welcome touches of a home made cake, flowers tea, milk etc were really thoughtful and appreciated. During an unexpected snow day Beryl kindly gave us some milk as we had run out. Felt like a home away from home. The property was extremely comfortable. Slept like a dream. Smart TV allowed us to log in to Netflix, hairdryer etc were all there for use which were added bonuses as not on the sykes listing. Shropshire itself is a beautiful county, much larger than we realised. Beautiful walks and scenery to behold. Visited a number of National Trust properties and local Market Towns. Can't wait to return. Thankyou Beryl.

  The owner is so welcoming and lovely! She even made us a sponge cake, fresh flowers & Fresh milk. The barn it’s self is in a lovely quiet location, clean and open plan set out is great. Brilliant location if your into hiking as it’s next to long mynd. We will be staying again. Kind regards Hiscox family

• "The owner was very welcoming and her welcome sponge cake was delicious."

  She was quick to help out when we couldn't locate the fuse box after a short power cut in the night. The facilities at the Barn are rather tired and dates. There is a lack of cutlery and general kitchen equipment:cooking knives were not sharp enough to use, there was only one tea towel, the oven gloves were very poor quality. There was no pizza cutter or fizz glasses. The 4 forks, 4 knives and 4 spoons (none of which matched) was very much on the sparse side of things. The TV was too small for where it is located. Many of the channels were not available which was very frustrating.

• "Loved the property."

  Loved the area,but glad I spoke to the owner before we went as we were going on the train and it's very cut off.Definitly need a car.Details on Sykes said it's Little Stretton but it's marsh brook and it's not 1.5 miles from church Stretton but about 4 to5. We loved it though and would like to go back.

  The property was welcoming, clean, comfortable and quiet. The equipment and facilities were all fully functional and as described. We quickly polished off the home-made Victoria sponge which Beryl had left to greet us. She was a warm and friendly host.

• "Unfortunately the main house was being reroofed I would not have booked if I had known as it is right next to the barn you can't see in pictures how near it is tried to be upbeat about it but very noisy and dusty could not sit outside."

  Left after 2 nights. Good things about property good location for visiting area good heating system clean bedding good Internet but small TV on wall with only a very limited number of channels.. But overall property very tired nearly everything in barn old and a bit tatty cobwebs everywhere had to hoover when we arrived Just don't look up from the kitchen area . We were probably too polite as did not want to upset the owner. Probably would have stayed if not for noise waking us up at 8am in the morning. Dont expect much but reasonably priced we picked it as she does not take pets. Did not get any money back for leaving 2 nights early as did not speak to her direct. But I doubt she would have stopped her roofing work for us. Asked Sykes to warn people going in after us.As not the quiet countryside break we were looking for.

  I felt inundated with numerous unwanted emails from Sykes holidays which was very offputting so have now unsubscribed. Also it was annoying when I was searching the Sykes website for short breaks or holiday starting on a specific date for a specific number of nights and was being promoted properties that were not available on the start date stated or that were only available for part of the stay I had requested. This is a waste of my time and unhelpful. The search should only include properties that are available for the dates and length of stay specified. So the 5-10 rating is for Sykes and not for the Barn.

• "Although the owner of this property was very friendly, the property clean inside and the beds comfortable, we feel that Sykes does nothing to inform potential customers about the true location of this property."

  To say it is on a working farm does little to inform people that it is in the middle of farmyard and as such does not have a nice outlook, and does not have the degree of privacy which most people require when choosing to go self-catering. Being kept awake by mooing cows at 3.00 am is not our idea of holiday fun. Above all, the steep, uneven and unmade track down to the property is not remotely suitable for saloon cars, and the bottom of our car scraped on this 'roadway' every time we went up or down it. If this property's description on Sykes' website actually informed people that you needed to have a car with a high clearance, such as a 4x4, when booking this property, this problem could be avoided. Sometimes, an absence of information is as bad as being blatantly uneconomical with the truth, and we feel severely let down by Sykes, for the second time (the first time was having lorries careering past our bedroom all night long, whilst staying in the Cotswolds). We are not inclined to continue to use a company which cannot be honest, and which leads to our having a less than satisfactory holiday as a result - and this in a year when people are in dire need of a holiday. The twin bedroom in the property was short of furniture - each bed needs its own set of drawers and bedside light, otherwise one or both occupants have to get out of bed to reach the light, access a drink etc. The kitchen was also under-equipped in terms of cooking utensils, particularly needing a range of oblong pyrex dishes for cooking in the oven, and more than just four mugs when there is a dishwasher to be filled (otherwise you have to wash by hand in order to be able to have a second drink). The towels in the bathroom needed to be a larger size- bath sheets not bath towels, the latter not being big enough for adults. Lastly, given the nature of our work, internet access is imperative for us, sadly even when on holiday, hence our always having to choose a property which can provide that. On this occasion, the internet was not working and we spent the whole week without internet access. We appreciate that there are a lot of farms up and down the country which understandably gain much needed rental income from holiday lets, but Sykes needs to be honest about what people are going to get for their money. The behaviour of estate agents comes to mind, upon discovering the mismatch between what is being sold and the reality of what is actually on offer. On this occasion we are very unsatisfied customers.

• "We really enjoyed our stay, house is very clean and surroundings very calm and peaceful making our week a perfect antidote to these difficult times."

  Nearby are many interesting museums, we particularly enjoyed the Prison Museum in Shrewsbury, Ludlow Castle and Raf Cosford. The surrounding landscape is stunning and there are many pretty villages to explore. Mrs Williams is a thoughtful and attentive host and we'd love to stay here again.

  Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, all necessary facilities available and easily accessed by the less mobile. There were also young kittens running about & sunbathing around the farm when we visited which added an immense 'cuteness' factor to the visit too

• "The cottage is beautiful and wonderfully peaceful."

  It has everything you need. While we were there the internet was not working but the telephone line was down to the main house due to storms. It is not easy to find but Beryl is prepared to come and find you if you get lost! Down an unmade track past a couple of other properties you arrive in the farmyard. The barn faces the hillside and overlooks the farmers beautiful garden and up the hill of the dell that the property sits in. The rest of the farmyard is not very sightly but you cannot see it from within the property. There are sounds of sheep, cattle and a cockerel or two. This is definitely a working farm / smallholding with lots of vehicles and yet it is really peaceful. Beryl Williams our host was very welcoming and helpful. She even made a Victoria sponge to welcome us. You could walk from the door of the cottage up Long Mynd but it would add an extra 3 miles or so to the journey! A wonderful central position for exploring Shropshire.
