"Comfortable, well appointed, surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of many attractions."
The upper patio was a particular delight!
-
"Lovely cottage (small barn conversion) full of character in a pretty hamlet within easy reach of Church Stretton, Ludlow and Shrewsbury and all that they offer."
Ellie is extremely friendly and on hand with any queries. We appreciated the massive fresh eggs! The garden (although not suitable for those with restricted mobility) is very pleasant with a large sun-terrace fully equipped with BBQ etc. and there is easy parking outside. Would certainly recommend this property especially to keen walkers.

"Ellie was extremely helpful, and responded immediately to any issues we raised with her."
The welcome pack was much appreciated. The barn is in a lovely peaceful location with walks from the door. It is perfect for accessing many areas of Shropshire - Stokesey Castle is well worth a visit. Note that access to the property is via single track roads with some passing spaces, although these seemed to be quiet. The kitchen is well equipped, but a family of four may struggle with the amount of crockery available - 5 dinner plates, 5 side plates, 5 bowls. It took us a few days to manage the temperature of the cottage, but finally worked a combination of under floor heating and wood burner. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return in the future.

"Lovely cottage in a beautiful, blissfully quiet area."
Ideal for two couples. Had everything we needed, including a very nice Christmas tree and delicious Christmas cake and Shrewsbury biscuits!
-

-
"This was our fourth visit."
A very compfortable and warm property. Ellie is an excellent hostess.
-
"Lovely part of the country to stay, so quiet you could hear the bees, birds and the gentle breeze."
A few things about the cottage: It was welcoming and every where was clean and tidy, however, the sofa nearest the window desperately needs replacing, very uncomfortable, there are some screws missing on the door coat hooks so you can't hang anything up there, there were no locks on the bathroom doors and disabled people beware the steps to the cottage are steep.
-
"This was our third visit."
Ellie, the owner, has gone out of her way to provide a comfortable and welcoming cottage. Delightful surroundings and within easy reach of towns, castles, etc.
-
"Owner very pleasant and all in good order throughout."
Very quiet position
-

The cottage was very well equipped and the owner both friendly and helpful, we had a great time.
-
"Upper Farm Barn exceeded expectation, with lots of great amenities, particularly nice was the wood burning stove."
It was the perfect location for a countryside retreat! We wouldn't hesitate to return.
-
"The cottage is great, if anything the photos don't do the place justice."
There was a lot more space than we were expecting, and due to the underfloor heating it is very warm. Would love to go back in Summer to fully enjoy the balcony garden. With zero light pollution the sky at night was truly spectacular. Ellie is a great host, and went out of her way to help us. The countryside is beautiful, with plenty of nice walks close at hand. We would recommend Bury Ditches with it's incredible panoramic views.

"Great find village location very quiet Equipment was good Location good Friendly owners Parking"
-
"Very comfortable, nicely furnished and spotlessly clean cottage in the hamlet of Woolston."
A truly peaceful and very rural spot. Loved the woodburning stove, that and the underfloor heating kept us warm. Ellie has equipped the house generously, we didn’t miss anything in the kitchen in a week of self catering. We left feeling relaxed having had an excellent weeks cycling and walking-much needed in these times. Thanks Ellie

lots of nice pubs and lots of things to do, the cottage itself was clean and it was just a little touches that made such a big difference. Would like to return.
-
"Excellent, host really thoughtful, provided additional extras ie."
Bread, eggs, milk, tea coffee, sugar, condiments and carrot cake! House in amazing setting, and spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and decorated. Would definitely visit again

"We thought Upper Barn Farm was one of the nicest cottages we’ve ever stayed in."
If we haven’t given it 5 stars that’s because there was no hamper of local food on arrival - although there was bread milk and eggs and an Aldi carrot cake! Also there were some small things which could have improved our stay and we communicated these to the owner. Otherwise the property was actually bigger than it appeared on the website and the upper patio was a lovely private area for sun-bathing. The decent site fridge freezer was a real bonus. We’ve re-booked for next year.
-

We loved it. Very comfortable beds and furniture, large good quality towels, everything you need. We recommend this cottage highly.

"Our first visit to Shropshire and we were well impressed."
It will not be our last. An excellent barn conversion - comfortable, warm, beautifully decorated and with all requisite "mod cons". Brilliant base for a walking holiday. Nice quiet location but within easy driving distance of shops, pubs etc. Well done Ellie for taking this on and setting it up so beautifully. A real gem - please don't tell everyone!
-
"Beautiful cosy cottage ."
Very clean and tidy with everything you need. Luxury towels and bedding were excellent. The cottage underfloor heating was especially appreciated after a long walk . Ellie welcomed us with a lovely package of Bread , Milk and homemade jam and scones which went down a treat. Would definitely recommend this cottage for either a short break or a longer holiday as the surrounding area was very scenic and there are plenty of places to visit . With Ludlow and Church Stretton well worth a visit
-

"Very comfortable cottage, wonderful welcome from the owner."
Situated in beautiful countryside.
-
"Lovely cottage in a peaceful location."
One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Ellie had thought of everything that would be needed and we had a lovely welcome box of food when we arrived which included the soya milk we use and homemade scones and jam! Lots of information for exploring the area. Ellie had left a chalk board with a welcome on and also came around to personally welcome us. We would definitely visit her again if we get back to Shropshire.
-

Ellie the owner was so welcoming but not overpowering. Hope to return in the future.
-

"The welcome was great with extra goodies on the table too."
Owner Ellie very kind and helpful. Good to be able to sit out in the sun as wished. Countryside wonderful. We had everything we needed and more. Everything was comfortable. Heating as needed, but we had good weather. Quick drive to amazing supermarket in Craven Arms. Abundance of hedgerow flowers. Ongoing improvements being done outside to garden etc.
-
"Upper Barn Farm is a very sweet cottage, that is beautifully decorated."
The location is peaceful. Ellie was extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely few days there.
-
"The cottage was clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped."
Ellie was very welcoming. We very much enjoyed our stay. The property description indicated a raised front patio, it would have been helpful to know that this was the access to the property, as 12 months ago this would have made accessing the property for my father almost impossible
-
"Ellie works hard and was very helpful"
-
"We got exactly what we expected, a comfortable, pretty, well appointed coottage."
What added to the pleasure was the welcome pack and Ellie’s personal welcome and quick response to the one problem encountered.
-
"Lovely property and very tastefully decorated."
It snowed the week we were there (very picturesque) and the owner Ellie was great at making sure we had everything we needed to make ourselves comfortable and see us through the snow days. Would highly recommend.

About the location
WISTANSTOW
Craven Arms 2.2 miles; Church Stretton 6.6 miles; Ludlow 11.8 miles.
Wistanstow is a small picturesque village in Shropshire situated approximately 2 miles north of Craven Arms and 6.5 miles south of Church Stretton. The village is named from the Anglo-Saxon saint Wigstan who was the grandson of the king of Mercia. The main lane running through the village is a Roman road, which ran between the Roman settlements and forts at Leintwardine and Wroxeter. This beautiful village is home to a community village shop and a local pub serving real ales from the local Wood Brewery which is situated just behind it. Wistanstow village is located on the edge of the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers plenty of walking opportunities. Visit the nearby small market town of Craven Arms, known as The Gateway to the Marches located between the beautiful medieval town of Ludlow and delightful Church Stretton.
This town is the main centre for Shropshire’s hill country and home to a variety of tea rooms, pubs and specialist shops. Carding Mill National Trust Centre has plenty of activities for children with shrot trails and longer walks and in the summer there is open water swimming in the reservoir. Other local attractions include walks on the Long Mynd, Shropshire Way and Jack Mitton paths, the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm and Stokesay Castle. Wenlock Edge and Corvedale Valley offer fine walks and the lovely Stokesay Castle, one of England's finest fortified manors, or the very popular Shropshire Hill Discovery Centre are well worth a visit. The surrounding area has some charming and historic houses, including a round house, thought to be a recognisable rest house for pilgrims travelling between Wigmore and Shrewsbury Abbeys and the fascinating 'Museum of Lost Content'. Winstantow is an excellent location for exploring this region of Shropshire.
