  • "Very relaxed in the house."

Mr.x Mrs.Jenkins were very considerate helpful and friendly. At 6ft 8ins I was a bit cramped in the bed but that's me.

  • "East Monkton Farm offers a lovely cottage in tranquil surroundings, and was the perfect base for our visit to South Wales."

The rooms are extremely spacious and tastefully furnished, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The best recommendation one can give is a resounding "Yes!" to the question "Would you book it again?", and we very much hope to return soon.

Enjoyed our stay we found the beds a bit small and the living room furniture was uncomfortable for my wife who has osteoarthritis in her joints. she did find one on the wing back chairs comfy in the end other than that it was enjoyable and well worth the break from everyday life

  • "Really enjoyed our stay in this lovely warm, comfortable cottage."

The rooms were really big and yet warm. The layout of the kitchen and utility/boot room, with access to the fenced in paddock, was perfect for our 2 working cocker spaniels. The local walks (with Vale Trail leaflets provided at the cottage) were super and meant that we didn't need to drive more than 20 minutes away all week and explored lots of the Vale of Glamorgan. Owners were friendly and helpful, available when we had a question but left us to enjoy the cottage uninterrupted. Really super, thank you.

  • "Lovely location, especially if you want to get away from noise, pollution and crowds!"

Plenty of countryside/seaside and mountainous places to explore, high standard of food in the area. Cardiff is within easy reach, should you wish to rejoin the 21st century. Host is welcoming and helpful and keeps the place in a spotless condition. Pleasant garden to rest in and pub in walking distance. Everything we wanted! Thank you Sykes Cottages and Mary!!

  • "We liked everything!"

Excellent standard of accommodation. Plenty of space to run your dogs within the farm boundaries. The hosts were friendly and spoke but didn't bother us even though they were next door. There were ample facilities and the heating was exceptional. We had a couple of rainy days so put the heating on for a while. Can't complain about the neighbours because the nearest were half a mile away. We loved the fresh milk machine, free range eggs, the local butchers and farm shop just a couple of miles away. Will certainly recommend to friends and family.

  • "The holiday cottage (really a house) is part of the owners working farm-house."

The photos on the website don't really do the cottage justice, the rooms are large and furnished with some large antique furniture as you might expect, and there is a large, grassy, walled paddock area next to the cottage to let the dogs run about in. We found everything we needed in the cottage and there was a good wi-fi signal which we hardly used. We loved the 1 mile walk along the quiet country roads to the dog-friendly local pub and found people so friendly. The local beaches with their cliff formations and interesting large stones are quite stunning. Being between Cardiff and Swansea, this was an ideal base to explore the Vale of Glamorgan and take trips into the Brecon Beacons by car. The owners are very friendly and left tea coffee milk and Welsh Cakes for when we arrived. We went with our two black labradors and had a lovely time and would recommend this cottage.

  • "Beautifully clean farm house, everything we could have asked for and needed."

Very friendly hosts who accomodated our needs by letting us stay at very short notice and also kindly allowed us take our house rabbit who stayed in the boiler/welly room which was warm and big. Huge rooms which warmed very quickly when the heating came on which was set on a timer, the house was always cosy and warm. Very quiet localtion with rare traffic passing the house. Even though this is a working farm we weren't at any point aware of this and were never disturbed by any noise from the farm at all. Very peaceful location. I can say 100% that this farm house was home from home and we didn't want to leave. Thank you so much for a wonderful week! Chris, Lizzie and Evan

  • "Unfortunately we were only there for two days as we were called home so cannot comment on the surrounding area but we did experience a lovely dog friendly pub a short drive away."

However, we can say the rooms are very large, clean & have everything you need. We were expecting a cottage next to the owners but it is actually part of the owners farm house, separated by three locked doors. The large kitchen & porch area are warm & where the owners say dogs must sleep, they are not allowed upstairs. Our puppy was not too keen on this but loved the large enclosed meadow next to the house where we were able to exercise her.

  • "This cottage is well located near the coast and good for dogs as has a secure garden."

There is a lot to see and do locally. It has comfortable accommodation with elegant furniture and nice light rooms. The owners live next door and are very welcoming. Only real disappointment is there is no bath as relaxing in a hot bath after enjoyable days out walking would have been great. The WiFi’s works better than expected for a rural location. There is however no radio at the property so bring your own.

A lovely house and some excellent furniture. So peaceful and quiet. The 'rush hour' consisted of a few tractors going by! This was our 5th holiday in the Vale of Glamorgan, and undoubtedly the best accommodation. We would have no hesitation in returning to /recommending it.

  • "We know the area quite well, but this is the first time that we have stayed at East Monkton or used Sykes Holiday Cottages."

We're pretty choosy about where we stay and the matter is complicated by a need for accommodation that will accept a( large!) dog. However, the booking process was easy and the range of options good. East Monkton Farm, for us at least, was delightful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. We all slept blissfully (the amount of walking we did may have contributed) - and one of our party was so impressed by the comfort of the bed that she ordered a mattress of the same make when we got home! East Monkton is a working farm, so the life of the farm went on nearby, which was nice, though our accommodation was effectively separated. There was a large, dedicated paddock providing both good parking and a wonderful exercise area for the dog. The area was deliciously peaceful and quiet and we particularly loved the swallows skimming around the house. And yet, access to the road network remained good (if you approach through Wick instead of Broughton) and we were able to get out and about in the area very easily. What an area it is - glorious, beautiful, dramatic seascapes, from towering cliffs to huge empty beaches, massive dune systems, ruined castles and good food. The furthest we traveled was the National Botanic Centre, near Carmarthen (don't miss it if the weather is good!) - but we found most of the things we wanted locally. Will we be going back? Try to keep us away............
