“We know the area quite well, but this is the first time that we have stayed at East Monkton or used Sykes Holiday Cottages.”
We're pretty choosy about where we stay and the matter is complicated by a need for accommodation that will accept a( large!) dog. However, the booking process was easy and the range of options good. East Monkton Farm, for us at least, was delightful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. We all slept blissfully (the amount of walking we did may have contributed) - and one of our party was so impressed by the comfort of the bed that she ordered a mattress of the same make when we got home! East Monkton is a working farm, so the life of the farm went on nearby, which was nice, though our accommodation was effectively separated. There was a large, dedicated paddock providing both good parking and a wonderful exercise area for the dog. The area was deliciously peaceful and quiet and we particularly loved the swallows skimming around the house. And yet, access to the road network remained good (if you approach through Wick instead of Broughton) and we were able to get out and about in the area very easily. What an area it is - glorious, beautiful, dramatic seascapes, from towering cliffs to huge empty beaches, massive dune systems, ruined castles and good food. The furthest we traveled was the National Botanic Centre, near Carmarthen (don't miss it if the weather is good!) - but we found most of the things we wanted locally. Will we be going back? Try to keep us away............
