Very well equipped kitchen. Beds very comfortable. We were very pleased with the overall quality of the cottage. The only problem was the parking space. We have a small car but found it tight and awkward to access. The steep steeps down to the back door although mentioned in the property details are not easy for anybody who has mobility problems.

Clean, comfortable and very homely, as it felt like you were visiting a relative’s home, especially with the interesting information about the history of the property. The garden was very pretty and well laid out and we were fortunate to be able to spend time on the patio, even though it was early March. The accommodation and surrounding area was very dog friendly, with plenty of walks directly from the house. The communication from Ruth was friendly and helpful and we would hesitate to book the property if we were visiting the area again.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback - we very much appreciate it! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and were lucky with the weather :-) It is a beautiful part of the world but it is extra special when the sun comes out. We do hope you make it back! Property Owner

Great situation on the estuary. Extremely well equipped and spacious. Interesting and very comfortable furnishings. Eclectic range of books and artefacts. Visiting in December, the log burner was a cosy treat and the Christmas Tree and decoration in the lounge an unexpected bonus. We cherish our cottage breaks and this has been one of the most enjoyable and memorable thanks to the welcoming character of Penywhelp. Thank you.

In the description of the cottage, it might be an idea to mention the steps from the bedrooms. Thank you again for a wonderful week. Keith and Lynne Treharne.

Super comfortable, equipped with everything we needed with the extra touch of stuff for the dogs and with the addition of the stair gates to restrict the dogs movements, we were most impressed. Excellent location. Lovely touch by the owner of welcome and goodbye texts and an almost instant call back over a query we had. All in all, highly recommended.

Lots of room and very comfortable. The furniture and fittings caused constant interest throughout the week, especially the oriental theme throughout. The garden was a sun trap and very pleasant in the sunshine. The village residents were all very friendly and always had time to stop and talk. Community pub is well worth a visit, small and very friendly. Overall an excellent holiday.

The beds were really comfortable and the shower incredibly powerful. The kitchen had everything we needed though was pretty small. Just note that there is no washing machine. We would have liked a visitor book (you can learn a lot about an area from other guests' comments) and much more information about the area, and the house itself. It was also a bit of a disappointment that an OS map wasn't provided.

Thank you for the feedback! We'll look into providing more information on the house and area. We're glad you enjoyed your stay :-) Property Owner

Beautiful bedrooms, bathroom and well equipped kitchen. We loved the back garden which is secure and dog friendly. The patio area is a real sun trap and we spent an hour or so enjoying the lovely cottage garden most days. Parking at the rear for the car is fantastic, the car didn't move all week as there is plenty to do in the area, poppit sands beach a 20 minute walk away which is mainly dog friendly apart from a small section cordoned off. The Ferry Inn is less than a minute walk from Penywhelp House, we ate there 4 times over the week and thoroughly recommended it. Will definitely return soon.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Penywelph Cottage which was easy to find and well located for visit to the area."

Plenty of walks and access to Cardigan so not reliant on the car or local transport. The property was a mixture of old and with modern amenities which added to the charm. Useful to have a dedicated parking space although had to be careful maneuvering in and out. The bedrooms were a good size and a fairly modern bathroom with good water pressure and shower over bath. Comfortable living room and well equipped kitchen. We liked the cottage garden which was compact and fairly private although would have been good if the roses had been pruned at the gate from parking area as we were caught by thorns a few times. The steps to and from the garden to the cottage were very steep so had to be careful when used. Not good for anyone with mobility issues but the description does point this out. Overall a pleasant stay and would recommend..

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay! And thank you for the feedback - very much appreciated. We'll get the roses pruned as soon as possible - they grow so fast at this time of year :-) Property Owner

The house was very comfortable with great utilities, especially the bathroom with a wider bath and shower. The property was warm, especially when the weather turned cold for a few days and we lit a cosy fire. When the sun shone, the garden was unique and delightful. It was so lovely looking out on to the estuary from the bedroom window seat and the pub, two minutes walk away was excellent. We found some lovely walks and trips along the coast. There are plenty walks nearby and the ginnel over the road takes you on a lovely stroll along the estuary into the centre of the village. The White Hart community pub is full of the friendliest folk I've ever come across, the chef is some kind of wizard, great locally sourced food and a fiver a meal! The market is worth a visit on a tuesday morning, fab local cheeses. The house itself is beautiful, with everything you could need and very comfortable. Ruth, the owner, is very helpful and has some fab suggestions for local visits. The dog loved the garden and we loved cooking with all the lovely herbs. We will be back.

Beautifully clean on arrival and in a nice quiet location looking over the estuary. I had trouble operating the tv to start with but the owner was available on the phone and helped me. I had taken my own firewood and really enjoyed the log burner in the evenings. The pub restaurant opposite is good and there are lovely walks, with many more 10 minutes away by car. If I had to suggest improvements I’d say a more comfy sofa and the option of buying firewood there rather than transporting my own. But highly recommended and good value.

There is also great access to the coastal paths, which provide spectacular views and are perfect for long and short walks. Built in the 1800s, Penywhelp House is a charming two-bedroom property with views of the River Teifi.

It is full of character with beams, sash windows and an old bread oven. The living room is comfortably furnished and includes a large smart TV and a wood-burning stove to enjoy pleasant evenings in front of a fire. The kitchen is small but well-equipped.

It is a traditionally styled Welsh kitchen with a slate floor, Welsh dresser, Belfast sink, beams, and an old bread-oven.

The dining room is light and airy with an extendable dining table that can seat up to 6 people. Both bedrooms are spacious doubles with window seats overlooking the River Teifi.

The bathroom is modern with a shower and bath. The property includes parking for one vehicle and an enclosed rear garden. The patio is planted with fresh herbs and has a table and chairs for four. About the location

ST DOGMAELS

Cardigan 1 mile.

St Dogmaels is an ancient and tranquil village nestling peacefully around its ruined abbey at the mouth of the River Teifi on the totally unspoiled west Wales coast. One of its attractions is Y Felin, one of only two working watermills in Wales and retains the machinery installed in 1820. It is thought the mill was originally built by the monks of St Dogmaels' 12th century Abbey. The miller shows how the mill works and bread, flour and cakes can be purchased from the mill or you can enjoy tea and cakes and light lunches in the Coach House Café nearby. An award winning local produce market is held here every Tuesday and is well worth a visit. The village has a pub, a fish & chip shop, a Post Office, a cafe and a small museum at the abbey. There is also a pretty green and a millpond with ducks. Cardigan, a delightful ancient market town, is just over a mile away. This ancient town sits on the estuary of the River Teifi at the base of Cardigan Bay. Its unspoilt townscape and rich heritage provide a nostalgic backdrop to a thriving culture of arts and crafts, events and music festivals. Nearby is the wonderful Poppit Sands where you can relax on sunny days or enjoy invigorating walks in the cooler months, as well as exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast Path. St Dogmaels is the start or finish of the 186 mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path from St Dogmaels to Amroth. Visit Castell Henllys, the Iron Age Fort where everyone is encouraged to learn the ancient way of living, or visit the wonderful Shire Horse Farm to see how farming was before tractors. The Cardigan Bay dolphins can be seen off the bay on a regular basis and more active pursuits can be found at Cardigan Bay Active, including surfing, wildlife trips or coasteering. With scenic coastal, riverside and countryside walks and an array of other beaches and attractions all close by, this is a perfect holiday location all year round.
