  • "Being brutally honest the cleanliness of the property is not what we've had with other Sykes properties in the past (please keep reading though!"

) - stains on walls, dirty skirting boards, some mould stains and water damage marks in the bathroom. The rug in the lounge is stained and the coffee table hadn't been hoovered under; the dining room table was very sticky and there were no basics such as a 2nd toilet brush, any toilet cleaner or any salt/pepper in the kitchen - all possible cooking equipments and utensils are on site though. The furniture was a bit shabby **however, and this cannot be stressed highly enough**....the furniture and beds were sooooo comfortable with ample clean bedding and additional pillows/blankets available. I'm a chronic insomniac and had 7 good night's sleep - so very dark and so very quiet! I'm disabled with a permanent boot and 2 crutches...I would say the property is wholly accessible, as is the garden. There's a small step up in the hall to the living area but my daughter and sister were there to help me, although I could mange it by myself if needed...anyone with a walker could probably manage with assistance. Everything else is on one level. As with previous reviews, the track to the property is extremely rutted and bumpy for the first 50yds but we managed it in a Skodi Yeti, and my sister in a Ford Focus, very slowly (worse going up than coming down) and as previously noted the state of the track is not the property owners fault. The garden is gorgeous with amazing views into the distance, watching the wildlife and birds....we had calves in the field surrounding the property for the whole week and they were entertainment in themselves! Ample outside chairs and you can follow the sun around the garden all day - the night sky, when clear, is absolutely breathtaking. The property is remote - Boncath has a small shop and is 2 mins away by car. Cenarth is 7-10mins away by car with pubs, a deli and lovely souvenir shop - the Falls car park is only £3 for all day too, with a good cafe on site. Newcastle Emlyn is about 10 mins away with a coffee shop, Boots, Co-op, Nisa and some takeaways, also a fantastic antique shop....a lovely place with lovely people. Overall I'd recommend this property as a place to stay if you want to be away from it all - you could arrive with food/drink/condiments and experience some peace and quiet, doing very little, except reading, watching the ever changing scenery/weather, the wildlife and listening to the silence for a whole week...you can hear the flapping of the kite's wings as they fly over, and the calves chewing their cud. All the photos are accurate and we hope to return next year for a proper holiday as we were there for a family funeral. Oh, and if you've never been to Wales before - at the time of writing petrol was anywhere between 6-15p cheaper per litre than here on the south coast. Food is much cheaper, both in pubs, cafes and supermarkets. Disabled facilities are fantastic - all the toilets were accessible, clean and some had showers and shower seats with adult changing facilities. All car parks were either free or very inexpensive (and still take cash!). The Welsh people were the friendliest of anywhere I've ever been, interested in where you're from, proud of their homeland and knowledgeable about where to go and what to do....writing this review I find I'm missing it already...and lastly, the bread, milk, butter, marmalade and cake were a very thoughtful arrival gift.

Dear Sarah, So sorry you found the property not up to the usual standard. There is a stain on the wall between the sitting room and the kitchen diner where water came in from a leak around the chimney, and the cottage has been so booked up we haven't had chance to touch up the inside paintwork. Very pleased you were able to appreciate its charm though, and the wonderful dark skies offered you a good nights sleep. Sorry you will be unable to visit next year as the cottage will not be a holiday let then. Regards Sue Property Owner

Dear David, Thank you so much for your positive feedback. Its a delight to know others love the property as much as we do. • "The cottage was lovely."

The grass outside had been cut just before we arrived but sadly had not been picked up so the dog kept bringing grass in on his paws, plus under one for the radiators in the kitchen a dish had been left to catch water which was not good as the dog could have decided to drink from it so i put the clothes horse round it so he could not get to it. Also the lane up to the cottage could do with something on it as it is not good for cars. Other than that we had a good time

Hi Christine, So pleased you found the cottage as lovely as we do. Having contacted the gardner he had strimmed before mowing the grass as it had been so wet the grass had grown too long but my apologies for that. I hope you left a note for the housekeeper about the radiator so this could be attended to. Sadly we still have slight problems with the farm track as we only have access not ownership but we are endeavoring to have it attended to. Regards Sue Property Owner

The only real issue we had was no where to put your rubbish, the bins were already full so had to put in the shed. If we were told a day to struggle down the track we would sort them but no information left. Thank you we enjoyed our holiday. Regards Janet

Dear Janet, So sorry, I have only just read your feedback, (lambing at the moment!). I have no idea why the rubbish was not collected after the previous guests, but thank you so much for your consideration for leaving yours secure in the shed. I have just taken on a new cleaning company and they are undertaking to remove rubbish after each booking so hopefully this shouldn't arise again. So pleased you enjoyed your stay, and the property suited your family. The area is so beautiful, almost a secret hideaway. Regards Sue Property Owner

Also looking at the stars on clear nights with no light pollution (even wished on a couple of shooting stars). The bungalow is a great size and we loved having a large tv to watch, the heating system was great and kept us lovely and warm. We think like many others that the cleanliness of the bungalow needs addressing. The shower outlet is broken with the screw sticking up which is dangerous. There is lots of damp/mould in the walls (probably caused by the hedgehog gutter guard that is also hanging down near the patio doors) the bungalow is smelling due to this. Saying all this I do feel bad as I would return and stay again. Thank you for letting us stay

The location is incredibly peaceful, with the wind and the stream the only noise. The starry skies are quite wonderful, if you're lucky with the weather! The enclosed garden was a good space for our dogs. Overall the house is well equipped, with a good range of kitchen supplies and a nice welcome pack. It would benefit from new pillows and the bathrooms have a bit of mould around the shower and windows but mostly it was fine. It is accessed by a track off the road, but it's stone not mud so has decent traction and is very short. As long as you go steady it's fine. We certainly hope to visit again.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay. We will check the pillows to ensure comfort for your next visit. Property Owner

Mattress cover revelaled disgusting dirty stained mattress with a numbers id wriipes. Had this been spotted on arrival would not have stayed. On return from holiday reported issue to Sykes who contacted the owner who agreed compensation. This was a learning lesson which I will certainly take on board when staying at other properties.

So sorry you considered the bungalow isolated. Most of our guests value the peace and quiet and wonderful dark skies, as you will see from other feedback. Our apologies for a damaged mattress. We recently had guests who did considerable damage to both showers and the mattress may be another of the incidents. It has been replaced with a new, extremely comfortable one. • "Holidays are the only thing I leave feedback for, and one of the few I read reviews for, as it's an important and costly purchase."

This fabulous property is all about the location, with lovely views from every side. It is a total haven, with no light pollution and wonderfully quiet. We live in the countryside but on an increasingly busy "B" road. Close the gates and the garden is nicely secure for your four legged family members. We were very lucky and had good weather so were able to have the sitting room doors open to the garden whilst at the property. The bed we used was comfy. The heating good if you need it on. A great new TV and good wi-fi considering where you are in the countryside. And you could tell there were was new bedding as previously noted. It could easily sleep 7 adults if needed, but the relaxing seating is really only suitable for 4 or 5 if you're friendly. For future users this property is remote; exactly what we wanted and what I researched for. The roads are narrow to the village, so be aware if you were hoping to walk there. It seems the property has a remote owner and this is evident. But they have lots of returning customers and we can see why. The farm lane to get to the property is an experience and we understand there is nothing the owners can help with but Sykes could by saying it is not suitable for a low-slung vehicle. There are two folders for info; one has the new cleaners phone numbers but the other still has the old caretakers details. Along with rubbish collection details from 2016/2017! There were just little niggles, with the cleaning and airing of the property, sadly. Nothing was enough to spoil our holiday or for us to call the cleaner. And I'm not looking for owners feedback but unless they know, these cannot be addressed. Judging by the visitor book, we were only the second users since Christmas and the others were Easter, 4-5 weeks back. The bedrooms in particular smelt very musty and bathroom gel air fresheners behind all the curtains were no good at all. We aired the rooms while there but still couldn't use the wardrobe of chest of drawers in the 2 west facing bedrooms. And the drawer with the collections of pants in the other double bedroom were not ours..... The floors etc all looked clean, but it was clean where you could see. And after our small dog managed to find a stash of lost Maltesers behind the sofa we moved all the furniture and hoovered. The shower room loo had mildew stains in the pan. And one loo brush between two toilets! It was lovely to have loo roll, milk and bread and choccy biscuits on arrival, but we felt the cleaners had relied on the clean 4 weeks back and had not checked anything. I just hope, as I left a note for it, they cleaned the bins and waste food caddy as we had to leave it outside it was so mucky. And someone had lifted the lid to put a new liner there, so must have noticed. For early in the season, the property just felt slightly neglected. If you came to my house, you'd find plenty of dust and cobwebs but I'm not inviting holiday makers in and charging for it. I guess in these almost post pandemic times, we are all more aware. Looking at future bookings, it should be booked solid but isn't. Sykes need to review the price, so the owners don't have to keep discounting it. Our week was discounted, and that is why we booked. Otherwise it would have been an extravagance for two of us. We have friends with a similar property here in Norfolk that has just one full week left up until May next year. They make sure they stay twice a year and do anything that needs it and spot check the cleaners too. In summary: would we stay again - absolutely. Did we love it - sure thing. Do we wish we owned it - hell yes!

Hello Denise, Sorry, only just read your feedback and delighted you enjoyed your stay at our wonderful bungalow. Really sorry about lack of cleanliness and do endeavor to ensure it is up to standard. Sadly I cannot quality check, but have passed detail onto cleaners. Sue Property Owner

The rug in the living room needs a better clean and the hoover isn't effective. Otherwise very pleasant stay, lovely location, friendly farmer.

The property is spacious, very comfortable and in a really lovely secluded spot, no neighbours other than the local livestock and truly wonderful views in all directions - there is only the farm on up the track - we only saw 3 vehicles go past all week. Yet it’s not remote with easy access to everything the area has to offer. The huge Smart TV is new since our last visit and a great addition. The Wi-Fi is really good and the addition of a Wi-Fi booster means coverage is good throughout. If you have a dog the garden is really safe, completely enclosed. All we can say is WOW! The location is absolutely perfect, very peaceful and out of the way but also not secluded to the point you have to drive for a long time to find a shop - Boncath itself is also a lovely village. At the cottage our old labrador especially loved laying around in the secure garden after a busy day and watching the cows go around their field. As for the cottage itself, when we first arrived it was immaculately clean to a very high standard. After a 8 hour journey we were also welcomed with milk waiting in the fridge and a little welcome basket of snacks - very very thoughtful! The cottage was extremely spacious for us and the garden was very secure. The showers in both bathrooms we found great, the sofas were very comfy and the beds again - very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need for a stay. There isn't a single thing any of us can think of to fault! While there we ended up calling the owner to enquire about a few things, she was very helpful and friendly on the phone and we could tell she cared a lot for her property :) We were sad to leave and wouldn't hesitate to return if we were looking to visit that part of Wales again - we also wouldn't think twice to recommend to our family and friends! The previous occupants had not cleaned up their dog poo and the gardener left it on the path, when it wasn't our dog. The sofa and chairs in the living room are so uncomfortable and some of the beds need new mattresses. They are worn out. You need to find new cleaners for sure and invest a little in the comforts in the property.

Dear Guests, I'm extremely sorry you found Broheddwch had not been cleaned properly and have passed this directly to our cleaners. This is unusual because most of the feedback we have received recently shows guests very pleased with the cleanliness. We did have a builder in doing work the week prior to your stay and he may well have used the hoover and not emptied it, for which I do apologise. Our cleaners bring their own equipment so would not have seen this. While I expect guests to clean up after their own dogs, I am amazed that the gardener did not remove any dog poo he found and again this is being passed on. While it not his job to do this, he is employed to keep the grass cut and if he had to pick up dog poo it should have been binned. As far as the furniture and beds go, again I'm sorry they didn't come up to your expectations. The larger settee was replaced just before lockdown and most appear to be happy with it. The king-sized bed again is only two years old but the other two mattresses will be replaced this winter. We have just replaced the cooker, microwave and updated the television to a 55in. The main bathroom has a new bath and shower screen and excellent new shower. I hope your stay in such a lovely part of Wales was not totally spoilt by the problems. Property Owner

but the vacuum was full of dog hair the over bath shower worked but the hose needs replacing and the the patio door windows needed cleaning. However the beds are comfortable the linen and towels were clean and in good condition. The white goods all worked well and were clean I would go back.

Dear Mr Morshead, As owner of Broheddwch I'm so sorry you found the vacuum was full of dog's hair. I imagine another guest kindly cleaned the carpet of dog hair before they left and this has gone unnoticed as our cleaners use their own vacuums, but we will note this needs checking. Also thank you for mentioning the leaking hose on the shower. This has been replaced. I have arranged for all the cottage windows, including the patio doors to be cleaned. While it has been wonderful to have so many guests this summer, it has meant we as owners have had limited time to ensure everything is up together, but I am so pleased to note you enjoyed your stay and everything else seemed satisfactory. I hope you will come again as it is a lovely cottage, set in a magical position. Regards Sue Andrews Property Owner

The cooker, fridge/freezer and kitchen equipment were adequate for our party of four but would not have been at maximum occupancy. The local area was great for walking and a short drive from Cardigan, Preseli Hills and the coast. The access track was challenging but manageable. Damp smells persist in the largest bedroom.

While there is a large upright fridge freezer and normal sized oven and hot plates, the latter will be upgraded to a double oven when the owners get chance to visit the cottage later this year. However the cleaning was not up to standard especially during COVID . The wardrobe in the small double bedroom had mould in and smelt musty as did the chest of drawers . Even after cleaning them and spraying I had to live out of the suitcase as the smell impregnated the clothes I had previously hung in it and had to wash them. The spare duvet stored in the wardrobe in the front bedroom had what appeared to be blood stains and hair on it. Whilst the drawers had to be wiped clean with bacterial wipes as human hair and dirt were found. The lamp by the bed side was broken with the wires exposed. The tub chairs had food and what looked like milkshake stains on them and had not been wiped clean. The shower room had hair in the shower and the toilet brush should be condemned as well as the toilet roll stack holder. There was an issue we raised regarding the missing patio door key which was dealt with swiftly. I was kept updated regularly by Jess as to the arrival of the locksmith who was fantastic and the handyman to fix a hole under the cooker due to a mouse. ( it’s in the countryside and we expected wildlife). Please do not be put off booking this bungalow as it’s in a beautiful setting and has amazing views there is a bull we named Boris and his family in the field behind which is lovely. Once these minor issues are dealt with by the management team I would happily go back and recommend it as it really is a hidden gem.
