Dai and Sue were great and Avalon is just so homely and has everything you would need. We spent many mornings watching the birds in the back garden, from the comfort of the dining room. The peace and quiet was so nice and just relaxes you. The local shop and people are so friendly, the best fresh tomatoes I have had in a long time. • "Can't recommend this property highly enough !"

We arrived a little early for our stay and spoke to Sue , explaining we were happy to come back later as we had just come to find where we were, she wouldn't have any if it and told us as the property was ready we could get started settling in. Right from the start we were very impressed and the pictures we had seen didn't do it justice, we were blown away. From the welcome pack, tea, coffee, Welsh cakes, sugar, milk and a bottle of wine to the views from the rear garden this is one of the best cottages and hosts we personally have come across. Woodpeckers and birds galore just by looking out of the windows into the back garden and peaceful sitting outside when the weather allows. The area too is full of history and a nature lovers paradise just a walk away from the property. Drive a little further and you can see Dolphins at New Quay along with a wealth of sea birds. Driving a little further away Tenby is well worth a visit and the national trust beach at Mwnt is a must for a beach day. Wales and Avalon did not disappoint!! Diolch yn fawr iawn! Sue and Dai

Very clean and comfortable to totally relax in a peaceful location. . Fantastic garden to sit and watch the great variety of birds ,especially a family of woodpeckers. A great base to explore the Pembrokeshire coast with visits to Tenby and St.Davids. And to cap that there is Cilgerran castle right on the doorstep with excellent views across the gorge. We will definitely stay here again, absolutely brilliant. Chris and Judith

  • "We had a fabulous holiday at Avalon."

Avalon is a wonderful place to stay. It caters for everybody, whatever you can or can’t do, we were very impressed. It has everything you need inside and the garden is just lovely. You have a fabulous view of the Castle and the wildlife is amazing. So many different birds on the peanuts including blue tits, woodpeckers and a very cheeky squirrel every day. It is a five minute slow walk to the high street shop and post office but you would never think it as it’s so quiet where Avalon is situated. Dai and Sue are absolutely lovely very friendly and very helpful if you need it. It’s so nice they live next door. The bungalow is very clean and very spacious. The bed was very comfortable. We felt very much at home and would highly recommend this to our friends. We will definitely be going back to Avalon There are beautiful walks from Avalon. The castle is nearby and you can carry on through the very pretty Gorge alongside the river one way or walk into Cardigan the other way amazing. We went to St David’s which was about an hour drive ( with some road works at the time ) an amazing cathedral, pretty place worth a visit. Cardigan and Cardigan Castle also worth a visit, castle with a difference also a very nice cafe. If you like an adventurous coastal walk go to Mwnt . The coastal walk has lovely views but very up and down in places, you really feel good after you have done it. There is a nice cafe where you can get some hot food, toasties like you’ve never tasted before. Then there is the challenge of the Foel y Mwnt, we done this right to the top, amazing views.

A really warm welcome from Dai and Sal (hope I got that right) and a fab hospitality gift ensuring we could have a much needed cuppa after a long journey plus some Welsh treats too; very thoughtful. Property is very homely with lots of information to help you decide what to do during your stay. It was very peaceful too, along a narrow lane but away from the bustle of the high street. This was a great spot to explore the area with highlights being the Dina's Head circular walk starting at Pwllgwaelod beach, Cenarth Falls (a beautiful but gentle stroll) and a visit to Mwnt Beach; a challenging walk but a fabulous view and then down steps to a lovely beach. Amenities at the beach great; can recommend a yummy cheese and ham toastie with a coffee listening to the waves roll in - a perfect day. To top off this holiday we got up early to catch high tide at New Quay harbour and was rewarded with a view of dolphins swimming; happy, happy me. Would absolutely return to Avalon - thank you both ....

  • "The charming bungalow is spacious, comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean."

Being down a dead end lane, it is extremely quiet and the rear garden offers a pleasant view over woods. We saw some interesting birds from the dining room and it was nice to see a squirrel regularly on the nut feeder. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is ample cupboard space. There is no lighting over the sink so, when washing up after dark, one is working in one’s own shadow. We were surprised how large the lounge and dining room are. However, the bedrooms are rather small. The bed is very comfortable and we slept well. The central heating was pre-set for a generous amount of time and the house was comfortably warm at all times. The shower ran consistently hot. The main lights in the lounge are rather bright and the one table lamp gives insufficient light. We would suggest adding a standard lamp in the corner near the clock. The large cupboard containing the boiler in the lounge is excellent for drying wet clothes and shoes. It’s a pity that neither of the pubs in the village offers decent pub food. However, it is only a 1.3 mile walk (on pavements) to the Pen Y Bryn Arms, a cosy, traditional pub where we had an excellent Sunday lunch. We also had a fancy but expensive lunch at “1176”, the restaurant at the castle in Cardigan. The nearby Welsh Wildlife Centre and Teifi marshes are worth a visit and we saw some uncommon birds there. The tarmac path through the marshes makes for a pleasant walk into Cardigan (about 3 miles from Cilgerran.) The welcome pack including a bottle of wine was much appreciated. We met Dai only briefly but it was good to know the owners were next door should there have been a problem. The weather was rather poor but we managed some walks without getting wet. The bus service, though infrequent, was useful for trips into Cardigan and beyond. It passes Aldi and stops outside Tesco. The location and comfort of the accommodation made for a very pleasant week and we would recommend it highly.

As soon as we opened the front door we felt welcomed. The bungalow was warm, clean, light and inviting with a lovely layout. Dai and Sue, who were amazing throughout our stay, left notes with clear instructions on how everything worked. A well equipped kitchen, with complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, wine and mince pies with milk in the fridge. My cuppa brew of Welsh tea was most enjoyable after such a long journey. The Two double bedrooms were spacious with plenty of storage and very comfortable beds. The shower/wet room was big enough with a lovely light funnel in the ceiling that allowed the daylight to shine through in the morning. Although it was mostly dark this time of year, much better in the summer I'm sure, a nice feature either way. The living room was very comfortable with plenty of seating, a good TV for the evening and books to thumb through. The dining room was nice to sit in and enjoy our Christmas Dinner, Dai and Sue had a tree set up in the corner with a few perfectly proportioned decorations around the bungalow. The back garden was so big and well kept, as it was raining most of our stay we didn't use it as much, but I'm sure it would be lovely in the sunnier months. There was a bird feeder that you could see from the dining room and kitchen that had a variety of birds throughout the day making you admire the scenery. There was plenty of walks from the front door to enjoy, down the gorge to the river or to the castle just a Five minute stroll down a pleasant pathway. You can also see the castle from the back garden which is a very unique back drop. The castle was wonderful to walk around and the views were spectacular even on a cloudy, wet day. The area around the bungalow was so peaceful and the locals were so friendly and welcoming. Cardigan was just down the road, a really lovely place to shop and enjoy the history. This was a perfect base to go exploring, from all the beaches to the towns or the walking routes. I highly recommend Avalon to anyone wanting a relaxing, carefree holiday. A big thank you to Dai and Sue for making our Christmas getaway a very memorable one.

The weather was poor during our visit but it didn't matter as there is still plenty to see and do close by and even on the worse day the bungalow is so warm and cosy ,we just took it easy inside. The village has a well stocked shop although Tesco is not far away in Cardigan . A word of caution , don't rely on the sat nav , ours lead us a merry dance , find the shop in the centre of the village and take lane next to it . About 25 metres on the left is a another lane , the bungalow is along there on the right . Thought I would drop that in as it is a lot easier to having directions than reversing out of a footpath in the dark and then driving up some bemused residents drive way , like we did . We would highly recommend the bungalow , enjoy .

The resident woodpecker kept us entertained, and Cilgerran is a quiet backwater off the main road with a lot of history - the beautifuk River Teifi and Cilgerran castle are a short walk away. The more adventurous could also walk to the Welsh Wildlife Centre just outside Cilgerran - we took the car ! - all in all plenty to do in this lovely part of the world. The crowds do not flock to the border of Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire in the same way as south Pembrokeshire, so we felt very comfortable in these CoVid times. The slight disappointment was that there was nowhere to get a meal in the village, but our hosts provided a list of local pubs and restaurants a few minutes drive away. Cilgerran boasts a lovely shop at the corner of the road leading to the cottage, which meant we did not need to travel to get the food we needed.
