  • "We had a great stay despite the weather not being the best."

House was warm and heating easy to control. Couple of annoying things - no food bin bags to put in food bin so all went in general waste. They ask you to run items used through dishwasher when you leave but don’t leave any dishwasher tablets and they also request used laundry to be placed in laundry bags but there were none. Contacted owner a couple of times and always very prompt with responses which was great - did make owner aware of laundry bags. Towards the end of the week the back two bedrooms were smelling damp/unpleasant - not a problem for us as we didn’t use them. The bathroom with the bath in it also smelt foul (sewerage) after using the bath with jets running - unsure why but didn’t use it again which was a shame. Location and outdoor space was great, garden nice and secure for dogs. Pool room is a great addition - even managed to beat my husband occasionally. All in all we had a very peaceful and relaxing week in a beautiful property. Thank you.

The property was spotless, if anything the pictures don't do it justice. Hot tub and pool room were brilliant. The garden was extremely dog friendly as one of our dogs loves to try to escape. We would definitely recommend and hope to return again in the future. Thanks

Very pleased that you and your dogs had a lovely stay at smugglers and hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

, upon arrival we all said wow , upon entering , the rooms and cleanliness were spot on , then we saw the views from the upstairs and decking AMAZING. Beds so comfy great nights sleep, hot tub and pool table a very big hit with the kids and adults. Overall an awesome place to holiday.

  • "Cottage was absolutely perfect for our needs of 3 couples - lots of outdoor entertaining space with amazing panaramic views, great indoor space for chilling out and good bedroom sizes to accommodate us all."

Cottage was clean and tidy and had all the essentials we needed. Pool room, seating area on decking and hot tub were real assets and sets it apart from lots of other properties we'd been to before. Previous reviews about lack of maintenance were unfounded as we found it to be immaculate and wonderfully looked after so no concerns from us there. All in all, an amazing cottage with stunning views. Thank you!

  • "We had a wonderful week at the Smugglers Rest- the property is made for sunny weather, which we had lots of!"

The views are beautiful from the decking and the house benefits from being at the end of the road, over looking a lovely meadow. Location wise, the property is close to many attractions and amenities. We visited 5 beaches during our stay, all less than 30 minutes drive. The Jolly Sailor pub serves good food and again beautiful views. In comparison to previous holiday accommodation priced the same, we expected to see a better maintained property with some more thoughtful aspects. The house smells damp, especially the downstairs and games room. Two bedrooms had no curtains over the window. Despite blinds in place, this still let lots of light through and woke children early/ made bedtime longer. There was no bath mats or hooks to hang towels when showering. The decking area has wood that is splintered and the furniture was dirty (full of cobwebs and dust). There was a sun shade/umbrella but this was broken and did not fit the furniture. Finally the dressing table in the large bedroom is discoloured and unsightly and there was no que ball on the pool table. We hope these things could be remedied as it would boost the overall feel of the house; we left feeling that the accommodation is managed by an uncaring owner/landlord. Has potential to be much better.

Thanks for your feedback and we are pleased that you had a wonderful week. However, we are sorry that you think we are uncaring owners - Smugglers Rest was our family home and holds many happy memories which is why we have kept it. We adore our house and always seek to maintain it to a high standard especially as we love staying there ourselves when it is free. We will look into all the things you mentioned and address them where required - we are not aware of any damp in the house and towelling mats are provided in the bathrooms, also the decking is regularly maintained but perhaps the splintering is due to the prolonged hot spell we have been having. In any event we will investigate that too. All the best Michael and Penny Property Owner

  • "This house was perfect for us as a family with three young adult children and two dogs."

It was like home from home. Internet was excellent. We stay in lots of holiday homes throughout the year and this one has to be up there with the best for cleanliness and standard of furnishings throughout the property . We did find the beds a little hard but this is down to preference rather than poor quality. Seating areas were extremely comfortable and spacious, a pleasure to spend time in. There was enough space for everyone to do there own thing and come together as a family. The garden is fully enclosed and the owners make dogs very welcome. One of our dogs loved watching the world go by on the balcony. It's an extremely safe property to leave them outside with no worries. The home is well equipped with everything you could possibly need to enjoy a holiday. The property has uninterrupted views at present over the river, although you don't have access. It does look like there is a possibility of development in front of the property at some stage. Hopefully it will be low rise accommodation ! There is a pub at the end of the road that overlooks the river. Beautiful setting but very average food.

Thanks very much for the feedback, really pleased to hear you had a good time. Just to reassure about the field directly in front, we understand development is unlikely in this section for a few years and if/when it happens, we will be advising guests prior to booking. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property in a lovely location, on the whole it,s maintained well ,there are a few things that need to be addressed , firstly the decking above games room needs attention, the power points in all bedrooms were unusable as furniture covered them, not enough towels large and small per person as drying them was a problem as we were here early in year, no tumble drier, other than that we had a really lovely time at smugglers rest."

  • "We stayed here for a week 08/10/2022."

1st impressions were wow it looks amazing & yes it was when we went inside. Plenty of space throughout the house & the garden for the dog. The men love the pool room aswel as the hot tub. The views were spectacular & we had lovely weather to go with it. Few negitives, recycle weren’t easy to follow & the bin for the dog mess was smelly when we got there & as we had a dog it was really smelly as the wk went on,but had no where to put the bin as was told to leave it & it would be disposed of after we left. A lot of bulbs had blown through the house aswel, dis inform them so they would be changed for the next visitors. (these were blown before we had it ) The lights werent working outside the living room doors & I went down the decked stairway from the kitchen & it was really dark & I fell down 2 steps ( hurt my elbow & ankle ) , so be careful but hopefully they would have looked at them before the next visitors as I reported it. Overall we had a fab week & would definitely go back there. Would recommend this house.

In the summer months it is a mecca for water sport enthusiasts with its pontoon facilities, making it a great launching point for canoeists, paddleboarders and boaters to explore the natural beauty of the upper Cleddau.

Impressively, the huge skylight windows in here can be opened up to reveal a Juliet balcony, where you can take your drinks out to savour the views of the river and beyond.

Once your meals are ready to be served, relocate into the formal dining room to tuck in before pulling open the map to plan the next day’s adventure, before pushing open the skylight which again reveals another Juliet balcony to allow a seamless integration of the outside in.

If you are visiting during the summer months, venture out onto the raised decking, where table and chairs offer an opportunity for a spot of alfresco dining where you will sit back and watch sailing boats gliding up and down the estuary making passage for pretty coastal villages such as Dale or outwards into the Irish sea before dipping into the bubbling hot tub, where you can truly relax after a busy day of exploring.
