She met us on our arrival, after we got lost several times. She took our luggage upto the pod on her farm vehicle. Gave us all the information about using the pod, and compost loo (which for me is a no go). The electricity is by solar panels, which because we had very little sunshine, began getting low. Jo and son in law, immediately came up with a generator. The only thing is if you are disabled, as we both are, the walk from the car park is a good 15mins, which my husband found very difficult. The experience of a pod is great, very relaxing and quiet. Also dog friendly, which is a big plus for us. They ran around the fields enjoying the freedom. Thank you Jo for our stay. Take cvare

It is warm and comfortable and in beautiful countryside. Lots of hot water and a great shower for the end of active days out. Our host was friendly and helpful on our arrival and available if we needed anything. It would have been useful to know beforehand that dingle den is not on mains water and therefore you need bottled water to drink in order to have brought a good supply with us. However there were a couple of complimentary bottles there for our arrival. Would definitely recommend for a rural retreat in stunning countryside.

Although we had very heavy rain and high winds, this didn't dampen our mini break it was actually lovely to fall asleep to with the fire burning away. Will definitely be back within the summer months to see even more beautiful site seeing views and explore more of the walks in the dry weather. Again, Thank you so much.

Our dogs (Jess & Badger) constantly enjoy being out in the meadow + playing in the stream; it’s pretty enclosed, so it’s nice for us to allow them to be out and about, whilst we relax and don’t need to worry about their whereabouts. The owner (Jo) has always been very welcoming and ensured we have everything we need & are happy/comfortable, each time we’ve stayed. This is definitely going to become one of our regular holiday spots with the dogs… Again, I think that’s pretty obvious! We do go out and about to neighbouring towns (like Hay-on-Wye & Abergavenny) but there’s lots of walks right on the front doorstep of Dingle Den + we’ve spent quite a lot of time just at the Dingle as it’s well equipped and has everything we need; going out to neighbouring towns isn’t a necessity here, just an added option for those who like to explore and go to new places. Thanks again for a wonderful stay at Dingle Den! I’m sure we’ll see you again soon. Jo, Col, Jess & Baj

  • "We have just spent the Easter weekend at Dingle Den, 2 adults, two boys (a 12 year old and a 14 year old) and a 2 year old Labrador."

We were greeted so warmly by all of our names (even the dogs) and lent some walking books after enquiring in advance about local walks. Our dog is a nervous fella and Jo was very understanding and kept her very well behaved dog away and showed us how everything worked and we felt straight at home. The Den is finished to a really high standard and was immaculately clean. Complimentary logs, fire lighters, biscuits, tea, coffee and water made settling in really easy. There was also washing up liquid, hand soap, towels and tea towels. We brought food (and water because you can’t drink the tap water) with us for our stay and there is a big enough fridge and storage. We barbecued on the fire pit in the evening which was great and sat on the logs around it to eat, one morning was warm enough to eat breakfast on the picnic table outside the Den doors which is a lovely option. The private space that comes with the Den is so much bigger than photos can do justice to. It is vast and beautiful. Although we were expecting a stream from reading the reviews we weren’t expecting the amount of stream and the little waterfalls and it really made it for us. The boys (who are normally stuck to a screen) loved exploring it and the dog thought all of his Christmases had come at once! We could have happily not left the Den at all for the 3 days (we played boules and football and did an Easter egg hunt and mooched about the grounds) but we did venture out and the walks are beautiful and quiet. Walking boots at this time of year are essential. One days weather was very wet but when we got back from our walk the Den was warm and cozy and just looking out the doors at the view was lovely. With no TV and no WiFi I caught up on some reading (the kids had some signal on their phones so survived in our down time) We specifically chose Dingle Den because it was remote and we wanted to be able to take our dog who can’t cope with strangers and it was absolutely perfect for recharging in a relaxing environment and we really hope to return (but maybe without the kids next time

Be aware just with phone signal as ours was Vodafone. Very poor signal if you need to catch up with you emails or watching a film on laptop or Ipad but you can go up the hill to find some. A toaster will be lovely if you looking for toast on breakfast time but i understand is solar power and wasn't a big issue. Thank you Jo and Billie for the wonderful experience

We really enjoyed meeting you and a special thanks for sharing the mushroom knowledge, we will definitely be investing in a guide to help us spot the good ones again! ’ Jo so thoughtful leaving gifts she’d remembered we enjoyed from out first visit in May. Our second visit she had put in place everything asked for a person with limited mobility. Nothing is too much trouble. The cuckoo has sang his tune and flown in June. The hare pops up to say ‘hello’ every day. The stillness, presence of the Cat’s neck mountain behind makes this a special place. We shall return again.

  • "Dingle Den was everything we hoped it would be - stunningly beautiful, peaceful and private."

We spent a week away from phones, laptops and traffic and we left feeling totally relaxed and revitalised. We spent so much time outside, enjoying the surroundings, having campfires and BBQs and watching out for wildlife, but when it was time to go in for the night the Den had everything we needed - comfort, cleanliness, a super-comfy bed and a great shower! You soon learnt to adapt to life without a fridge (the box in the river works a treat) so don’t let that put you off! It’s only a 20 minute drive from Hay on Wye, where we went on a canoe trip down the river and enjoyed great brunches (at the old Electric shop and The Granary, plus you can have a great coffee and people-watch sitting outside Cosy Cafe) and can highly recommend a hike up the Cat’s Back for stunning views over Herefordshire and the Black Mountains (and you can set off from the gate at the top of the paddock) We just loved the peace (and the privacy!)…there is nothing to hear but birdsong, a babbling brook and the sheep in the field next door. Utter bliss - we will be back.

The pod was perfect with everything we needed and was really cosy especially during the rain. We particularly loved the meadow, it was fantastic for our dog and we enjoyed spending time exploring what was there and also the walk from the gate up to the hills beyond was beautiful. We were treated to a visit from a hare, hedgehog and cuckoo, amazing! The owners were very welcoming and we would love to go back one day. Thank you.

  • "WOW!!!"

We came with our two dogs for our 10th wedding anniversary and we were greeted with such warmth from Jo & Billy, thank you! The surroundings and the actual Dingle Den were everything we’d hoped for! Peaceful, calming, secluded and gave us the ability to totally relax (something that has been near impossible with our busy lives!). The dogs were able to explore and play to their hearts content away from any hazards; which again is something they don’t normally get to do living in a suburb, they had the best time! We are passionate about the environment and this incredible location and eco friendly place to stay gave us the ability to live out our dream of sustainability; with the compostable toilet, solar panels, gas fuelled den it is just wonderful!! Plug into all that is nature and meditate in this beautiful spot, you will not be disappointed!! 100% recommend!!

We have a wonderful few days exploring the local area. The ridge onto the summit of Black Hill is accessible from the door and is a beautiful walk with a real mountain feel. Dingle Dell itself was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. We loved the lack of WiFi and time as a family, making full use of the fire pit outside and the cosy wood burner inside. Our girls loved the space and playing in the stream which runs just by the hut. Thank you to the owners who made us really welcome too. We'll definitely be back :-)

A secluded and well-built little gem that helps you get away from it all. Lovely surroundings and if you don’t mind negotiating one-track roads and having no phone signal for anyone to bother you, then this is for you. The Den was well equipped and I can’t fault the owners who were polite, communicative and prompt to resolve any issues. The best way to describe it is ‘luxury camping’ as you have a toilet, some power and gas stove, although a fair walk to the fridge. The shower was great too and the Den itself was surprisingly warm. ****The only slight downside is (and I’m unsure if this is Sykes’ fault) is that it lists ‘fishing’ on its features as an accommodation. This is untrue. There is no fishing on site and this was a disappointment because we searched specifically for a ‘fishing holiday’.

  • "We had a great time at the Dingle Den!"

There were two of us and a dog, and it was the perfect size. There is a private car park space and a wheelbarrow to help with getting luggage up the path to the den. The den is perfectly secluded and has a fenced private field with a stream which we were able to let our dog roam free in. The den is eco friendly and runs off solar power which is enough to charge one iPhone at a time and power lights etc but not to use a hairdryer and no fridge. Alternatively, there is a fridge in the barn down the path or you can store items in the stream to keep them cold, which we did-this was quite fun! The shower has good pressure and the water is hot. There is a composting toilet. Kitchen facilities were good and we had a couple of fires in the wood burning stove. There is a fire pit outside that we didn’t make use of. The best part of the Dingle Den is that the field leads straight onto a path with many walking options. We did a couple of routes which looped up and over the Cat’s Back. The family were very helpful and gave us a lovely welcome pack with homemade scones. Would highly recommend for a break from city life!

It's perfect for a small family wanting to explore or a couple wanting to escape a busy and stressful life. It's very peaceful, and for me, my partner and our dog has been an amazing short getaway. On arriving we received a little welcome basket with homemade scones, butter, jam, a small jar of milk and some bottled water which was a lovely touch and very welcoming! The den is solar powered so there is no fridge, we kept things cool in the nearby stream and the owner does keep a small fridge in one of their buildings just a short walk from the den. The den was spotless inside, very cosy, comfortable and well equipped. The fire pit outside is wonderful and we enjoyed a barbeque and toasted marshmallows on our last night! Shops and pubs are just a short drive to hay on wye and there is a local pub about 5 miles from the den and the food was lovely. This short break exceeded our expectations and we are hoping to make it an annual trip.
