  • "Great property in a central location!"

4 adults & 2 boys (1 & 2 yrs old) found lots to do in local area, and the property itself was well set up for us. The stair gate was a necessity and great inclusion & the availability of a high chair was brill (although not shown in the property details which I’d suggest it should be). Very comfortable and inclusion of things like hand wash, tin foil, some tea bags were very useful.

  • "This property is worthy of 5 stars."

It exceptionally well designed and perfectly located. The £100 housekeeping bond is it’s let down. I paid mine, got confirmation I’d left the property in good order and that the bond would be returned within the 10 working days stipulates. I supplied bank details. On the 10th working day it remains unpaid. I have chased and had no response. My stay was only 3 days. On the third day I was woken at 6.50am by a lengthy text message from the property manager detailing expectations for bed stripping etc & reminding me to be out by 10. The timing of this seemed somewhat hostile & not what I would expect from a property commanding £1k+ weekly rental fees. On arrival at 3pm we had to wait 15 minutes for the property manager to finish cleaning. I have no problem with this but would expect better management of check out and timely return of bond. In summary, I feel lucky to have stayed at Johns Lookout but feel I booked with Sykes and got AirBn’B service.

A perfect way to spend New Year’s Eve. Really clean, as described, short walk to the centre, and furnishings and finishes throughout the property was high quality. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

  • "Beautiful, comfortable, modern holiday home in great location for visiting the area and with lovely views across the valley."

We shared our stay with friends we have known for many years so the two main bedrooms with two separate bathrooms on the ground floor was ideal. The upstairs light and airy living and dining area with fully fitted kitchen was superb. Highly recommended.

Close to the town centre (10-15 minute walk). A lot of useful information about local attractions provided.

The space in the living area is huge and the outside patio put to good use with the incredible weather that we had. It is within walking distance to Monmouth centre and also a handy base for touring and exploring the Forest of Dean.

  • "A beautiful property in a fantastic location with delightful views over the valley."

It's only a 10 minute walk into town (the Italian restaurant on the main street is excellent) and the property is pefectly located for visiting a number of local attractions. The facilities in the house are modern and the place is obviously well-maintained and looked after. A perfect holiday base for our 2 adults / 2 children party.

Easy walking into the town. We enjoyed our stay.

Dear William, I am sorry and surprised that you felt that John's Look Out was not of the highest standard with regards to cleanliness, and maintenance. A little more detail would be appreciated so that we can mantain our usual high standards. Thank you for staying at J.L., and I am pleased to note that you enjoyed your stay. Kathy Property Owner

  • "We found this to be a very well appointed, uncluttered and modern property with excellent spaces and lighting - and state of the art heat pump!"

On the trivial side, it only needs a tiny tweak or two to make it excellent in our opinion, so a couple of bars for hanging the kitchen tea towels on the end of the sink/worktop unit might be a consideration. In addition the area is known for its scenery and walks - and a Waitrose in town - we booked it again!

It was bigger than we thought it would be. So much light upstairs in the living space. Kitchen well equipped. Large dining table and area. Sofas comfortable and view really beautiful. Lovely quiet street within walking distance of the town where there are plenty of good take outs and restaurants. Very easy access to property with private parking space. Monmouth really nice place and very central to Wye Valley and even east Brecons. Don't hesitate to book this property.

  • "John's Lookout is an elegantly designed and constructed building with a superb views across to the Kymin and the Wye Valley hills."

The open plan layout of kitchen, dining and TV areas worked well for us, as did the layout of the 3 bedrooms. The grassed are to the rear was also good once the sun came out! Generally the kitchen was very well equipped but lacked a potato masher and large serving spoons. The en-suite and bathroom areas were good though the pillows on the beds were a bit unforgiving. From the house it's just a 15 minute walk into Monmouth, an excellent little town with a very good range of cafes and shops. I'd particularly recommend Coffi Lab.
