  • "This is a lovely cottage in an excellent position overlooking Fishguard Harbour- the views are amazing."

It is a really warm, cosy cottage with plenty of room. The outside space would be good for sitting and relaxing in if you had good weather. An excellent welcome pack left fir us, which was much appreciated. Plenty to go in the local area, with walks from the doorstep. The only slight negative is the very steep drive up to the cottage, which gets very slippery in wet weather.

  • "Excellent property, some small issues, not clear on what to do with refuse as appears some bins & bags missing, 3 can openers in kitchen drawer, none of which worked."

Needs more transparency on parking as drive very steep and was impossible to drive on in when wet as car slid down the drive, gravel on lower part is deep and caused wheelspin with front tyres buried in it, easier to park on road outside or in layby on main road, or harbour car park which is free. One other think is beware of the unpainted part of the decking as this is very slippy in the wet. These are mostly minor things apart from the danger of the car slipping on the drive, which could be solved by at least tarmacing the lower section. Main thing though is that this is an excellent cottage, well equiped, very comfortable with great views and well placed to explore the local area.

  • "A lovely well equipped, and comfortable cottage with a fantastic view over the harbour."

As mentioned in the cottage description, the access is a bit of a challenge, especially with a largish car! A minor point was the confusing recycling instructions, with multi amendmended crossed out sections and missing recycling box.

It would be nice to have curtains in living room as my dog kept on barking at night looking at lights, also it’s a must for privacy. everything else was amazing. Thanks again

  • "We loved Shell Cottage- what a fantastic location!"

Wonderful views of the harbour, and we could walk down to the harbour car park, where we parked our cars, in just 4 minutes (a lot easier than tackling the steep drive, though the gardener managed the drive easily in his white van mid-week). I appreciated coming home from a walk and sitting high in the garden with a cup of tea while the others flopped in the cottage! So peaceful, and we loved walking down to the harbour in the dusk and seeing the ferry lights over the harbour in Goodwick. Will definitely come again.

  • "The property is conveniently located for visiting SW Wales from Cardigan down to Tenby."

Lowertown is very peaceful with a very friendly drinkers pub within metres. Some areas dont have pavements so care has to be taken crossing roads. Property was clean and tidy with good facilities. Not the most modern but more than adequate if out all day and using terrace in the evening. We left a few minor comments in the house keeping book for future improvements. A number of current pamphlets of where to go and a decent listing of pubs restaurants etc were provided and used. Terrace area provides wonderful views of bay and harbour and dogs can be penned into this area. However rest of garden is steep and not suitable for safe walking nor loose dogs. A number of visitors have mentioned the steep drive which also possesses shale and stones which make it difficult for vehicles and people to ascend. Our small car fully loaded could not get up the drive. After unloading we left our car in the harbour car park which is free, flat and always had spaces. If the drive and lower parking area was tarmacked I would have increased the rating

  • "This cottage is in a stunning location with amazing views."

Very comfortable but the bedrooms were a bit tired, the double bed creaked a lot and the room smelt damp. Twin room was better and bigger so maybe swap? The drive could be tarmaced we got up it on arrival but it was impossible after the rain.

  • "The cottage was perfect for our Easter family getaway."

Well located with an easy walk down to the old harbour and a short drive up to town. We enjoyed the views and the comfort and wouldn't have any problem recommending Shell Cottage.

  • "The cottage has superb views, is very well equipped, very comfortable and in a fantastic location in the Lower Town overlooking the harbour."

We generally enjoyed our stay, however it was let down by a few niggles. There were a few minor maintenance issues that we would not have expected to find; no ignition light on the main oven so we had no idea when it was up to temperature, various bulbs not working on arrival (some spares were left but not all). The decking was extremely slippery when wet and there was no way to avoid walking on it. Unfortunately the cottage could have been cleaner. On the surface all looked OK but there were lots of areas out of site that were not clean; cobwebs down the back of bedroom bedside cabinets which could easily have been moved to clean and the tiles at the back of the cooker hob had not been cleaned for some time. We also had an issue with mice in the kitchen on the work surfaces (which we notified to Sykes Cottages). The information relating to the bins and recycling was very confusing as there were various options – but which were correct? Most of the information files contained out of date information – mostly from 2017! Although it states that there is an open fire and that fuel is included in the rent, there was absolutely no fuel for the fire or evidence of anywhere to store anything e.g. coal scuttle or log basket. Also no indication of what type of fuel is required – smokeless? It would have been useful to know what equipment - pots & pans etc. was in the kitchen as we were there over Christmas and had no idea what was included. As much as the listing states there is a very steep drive, it does not say that it would be unsuitable for people with mobility issues, who would find walking up and done the drive and steps extremely difficult. As previously noted, the drive is incredibly steep and rough and not easy to drive up and down, especially when wet.

  • "The cottage is good but just lacks finesse in the finishing but the terrace and view of the harbour is magnificent."

As mentioned by others the drive is very steep and awkward and is probably the only negative aspect. Our family had 3 small cars which managed . Overall a very good location and a very good base

Both bathrooms need some attention The location was good and kitchen well equipped

The owner extends his apologies that the broken loo seat was not attended to at the time. It has now been replaced. The comfort of beds is very subjective and has not been an issue for other guests. Property Owner

  • "Comfortable, clean cottage with beautiful view of the harbour below."

Nicer than it looks in the photos. It’s lovely to sit on the patio with a glass of something chilled and enjoy the vistas. Fishguard is a good base for exploring the area, which is generally uncrowded with great beaches and walks. As other reviews mention, the drive up to the cottage is challenging; not for the nervous driver. If you don’t fancy it, there are only limited parking spaces on the road below the cottage, you may end up having to park quite a way away. We had a great holiday, we had never visited Pembrokeshire before and it exceeded expectations.

it offers a beautiful view of Fishguard Harbour from the expansive decked area. the cottage itself is very spacious with a small lawned area, but to listen to the small trickling stream in the garden is so restful.there is a challenging drive up to the property level. very necessary to access the property level for loading etc.

  • "The location is stunning with a beautiful view of Fishguard harbour from the living room and terrace."

It is quiet and peaceful with beautiful walks on the doorstep. The kitchen looks out on to the garden that is visited by many varieties of birds so you can birdwatch as you make breakfast! The bungalow was ideal for us and our elderly mothers being on one level and spacious. It is bright, clean and comfortable and the furniture and fittings are of a high standard making it feel like a home rather than simply holiday accommodation. The owner was very helpful. We booked for one week and were able to extend it to two. We will definitely go again.

  • "The cottage was lovely & the view was amazing."

However the drive is very steep & just when the car needs to bite it turns into a poorly maintained slate covered drive and the car starts to slide back. We are both experienced drivers & attempted this twice with burning clutch both times, so we ended up parking away from the cottage. I think the drive needs to be properly concreted as it is not safe otherwise.

  • "The holiday cottage and location exceeded our expectations."

However the listing was not accurate in terms of the parking. You really need a 4x4 to reach the top of the drive although the listing did mention it was steep. However it didn't mention that the 2 spaces at the bottom of the drive were reached by an exceedingly steep entrance which was only safely navigated by going past the entrance and turning round and entering from the top of the road. We decided to only have one of our cars in the lower parking area and the one we used everyday we left opposite the entrance on the road in order to avoid navigating the entrance drive.
