  • "It was a great downstairs area."

Lovely to have a downstairs toilet with a little one. Great to be able to walk to the beach. Everything we wanted was available in the house.

  • "This is a beautiful house, open plan throughout with a distant view of Freshwater east where you can watch the sun setting from the garden."

The coastal path is accessed from the back garden and you can walk to the beach, although it is steep to return. Having older members we drove down and parked at the small car park which is free out of season. The open plan lounge, snug, dining room and kitchen provide a really excellent living area for families and adult parties alike. The kitchen is very well equipped and the owners are really helpful and quick to respond to any request for advice or help. We asked for oven gloves and they were sent to us within a day. The central heating was good and we kept us warm in January and we did try to light a fire in the log burner, but unfortunately the logs bought locally weren’t up to the job, but we did manage to light it once. If you do want to use it possibly take your own logs and kindling. The master bedroom has numerous floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes which would hold clothes for all the family, ideal for a family with children. The other two bedrooms didn’t have any storage facilities at all, a chest of drawers in the second bedroom would improve this. We were 5 adults and although we managed, the adults in the second and third bedroom had to live out of a suitcase all week. There is no storage at all and the third bedroom is decorated for children, although does have a double bed with a small ladder for access suitable for one adult. The master bedroom has a beautiful en-suite with a large walk in shower, the open plan en-suite (no door) isn’t for the shy or faint hearted, we did get used to it eventually. The open plan loo prohibited the use of the wardrobes by other party members. The master bedroom is large and luxurious with a very comfortable large double bed. The family bathroom is good with a bath and shower over. The owners allow two well behaved dogs and the outside space is fenced and with the drive gates closed is very safe and secure for the dogs. There is lots of information about the house and area provided, two sets of keys for access and cleaning equipment to use during your stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here and would definitely recommend it for one family. Jacks at the longhouse and The Freshwater Inn were both great to eat at and they made us all very welcome, both very dog friendly too.

  • "A comfortable cottage close to the main tourist attractions and beaches."

There's a signposted path at the back of the property through a gate which is perfect for walking dogs and to get to the beach. There is a useful washing machine and tumble drier not mentioned in the write up. There aren't any heated towel rails as described. No storage in the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms but plenty in the main bedroom. The cottage could do with a thorough clean. Despite the instruction book telling guests to put out the rubbish daily we were only provided with 1 bin bag, so had to purchase some more. There were some useful kitchen utensils missing, including oven gloves. The heating wasn't working when we arrived, we discovered it was switched off! Note that the ensuite shower room in main bedroom does not have a door. Good free wi-fi which is needed as there is no mobile signal in the area. As described the path is very steep to the beach, anyone with mobility issues (or unfit like us!) will struggle. There is a car park though, with a great restaurant nearby (Jacks)! The beaches around the local area are stunning. Plenty of supermarkets in Pembroke but none within walking distance to property. Would recommend that you check Freshwater Inn opening times by phoning first as they don't have a website and they aren't open every day.

"We stayed at your lovely cottage last week. Thank you for the goodies left for us! On your Sykes advertising page although there was a photo you didn't include washing machine and tumble drier, which is a bonus in wet weather or after beach visits so guests would be delighted to have these!" Sarah C. (email to owner) Hi Sarah, thanks for the feedback. Will ensure w/machine and dryer added to the listing.. Just wanting to clarify a few things that you raised for the purposes of other guests. 1.The heating was fully functional when you arrived, it just wasn't on. Our home is very well insulated and can be overly warm in mild temperatures with the heating on. The previous guests switched it off, and all that is required is to switch it on. 2. Our home is in the Pembrokeshire National Park, adjacent to the Coastal Path, and a short walk to the beach. Obviously there is no supermarket in walking distance of the house based on our coastal location. However Pembroke (20 mins drive) has a number of supermarkets including Tesco who do home deliveries. Most of our guests make good use of this service. 4. Pembrokeshire council have delivered rolls of bin liners to every household on a regular basis until very recently. There was no notice given and no explanation for the abrupt change. We are catching up with the change in circumstances. 5. With regard to your other comments, I would like to share feedback from 18th August 2023 which is listed below: Comment: Avalon was a lovely clean and spacious place. The house had everything you needed." Lydia I have to say our wonderful cleaners work extremely hard to turn the house around between guests and we have always had lovely feedback on how clean things have been on arrival. Has certainly always been my personal experience. It is a huge amount of work and they do a really good job particularly taking the time constraints of one set of guests leaving and another arriving. if something minor was missed then I am sure it was an oversight. We are all human after all. Ps. The slippers in the very far back corner of the wardrobe are mine ! Forgot them and my lovely cleaner put them out of sight so I can collect next time I'm down. Nice of you to send me a photo of them ! Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and a great holiday."

No complaints whatsoever. The only negative feedback I can give is that the bed in the master bedroom has an issue with the bedframe or mattress. The rhs as sleeping in the bed slopes to the right - and the code for the shed padlock isn't as listed in the booklet. Great that there was a smart TV so we didn't have to connect a laptop as we have in previous properties. Kitchen and dining area are great for families.

Delighted to hear you had such a lovely holiday, and enjoyed all the best the house and the area have to offer. Yes the open plan layout downstairs works brilliantly for families, and great to hear you found the smart TV set up so valuable ! The bed in the master bedroom is one with storage underneath and think it hadn't been put down properly. The shed padlock has now been reset and the code is correct in the welcome manual. Do hope we can welcome you back in the future ! Property Owner

  • "Avery nice cottage."

But thought you should know of a few unexplained events, we were Woking in the early hours of Saturday morning by loud banging on front door on investigating nobody there. Also on returning after the day out on Wednesday found kitchen utensils strewn over worktops and some items on floor ,as we had locked the doors and windows on leaving it would seem somebody had let themselves in. Also on following day on returning the electricity had been turned off in the consumer unit but this may have been a power cut. Look forward to your reply. Regards M Hopper

Many thanks for your feedback, and so pleased that you liked the house so much. Freshwater East is a very quiet village, so would assume a knock on the door was purely made in error. We have a number of very elderly neighbours and house names are not always clearly visible from the road. We will double check with the cleaning company, but I personally stayed in the house the week immediately after you and experienced no problems or issues of any kind. Power cuts can happen from time to time in remote villages in Wales but are typically short lived and cause very little inconvenience. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful house but needs a few tweaks to make it perfect."

Firstly the heating did not work and after getting soaked a cold house was not welcoming. My husband phoned the owner who was very helpful and told us how to reset the system. This was greatly appreciated There was no baskets of logs provided as per the description of the cottage so we did spend 2 cold evenings before we managed to reset the heating. We were disappointed to find that although there are 2 smart TVs they only show catch up channels or pay to view channels. There are no live channels at all as there is no aerial output. In the snug there is an xbox that children would enjoy. T towels were provided but no dishcloth or any type of scourer. This is not the standard we are used to, Also no milk or any sort of welcome pack. Again not what we are used to. We have been holidaying in cottages for 10 years and this is the first cottage that has not provided these items. So future guests need to be aware of this. We found watching the tv in the sitting room difficult as it is on the wall. Perhaps this could be moved to a table? We ended up sitting in the snug to watch tv which seemed a shame as the open plan lounge is so spacious and light. The ensuite is very well furnished but without a door!!! Overall the cottage is well situated and spotlessy clean. There are books and games provided and now has access to the Disney channel.

  • "It would have been good to have some dishwasher tablets, as this is something we expect to be there, and has been an all other locations we have been to, a welcome pack would also have been good, if only for a pint of milk for tea upon arrival The standard of the accommodation was very good but there were a few things i think that were missing from the kitchen, a large frying pan, a spatula, some tin foil, the grill part of the grill pan good but these few simple missing items would have made it better."

    ..

Many thanks for your feedback, and we have taken your comments on board. The items you listed are now all present in the kitchen, as is a welcome pack. So pleased you were happy with the high standard of the accommodation and we hope to welcome you again in the future. Property Owner
