  • "Excellent location for all the beaches on the Gower and a fabulous Pub just round the corner."

Mezzanine was fine, although the ladder was a little clunky to operate. All facilities in the cottage one could expect and DVD's great option, as kids watched their first black and white movie and loved it. All in all a brilliant stay.

  • "The 3rd bedroom at this property is accessed by a loft ladder from the kitchen."

We felt that the access was dangerous and fell short of expected health and safety regulations. Getting up in the night to use the toilet was dangerous quite frankly. There is a shortage of space up there and the mechanism in the room is a hazard (more so when it is dark) This needs looking at urgently as someone is going to have a serious accident!

Thank you for your feedback. I’m very sorry you found the mezzanine room to be below the standard you expected. The Sykes website does explain about the ladder access and says it is not suitable for older people or young children. We will have a good look at the room when we visit next week and see if there is any scope for improvement - although you are the first guests in several years to raise this issue. With best wishes Kathy Property Owner

  • "Corner Cottage is well positioned for access to all the coastline of the Gower."

The cottage has a large open plan kitchen/dining area and a cosy parlour with sofas. There is a good supply of DVDs, books and games. There is a good TV with Freeview channels, although picture reception varies (HD channels are better). The main bedroom is a good size and the second room is adequate with twin single beds. The ladder to the mezzanine level can be stored out of the way if it is not being used. The cottage is situated right on on the sharp bend of a lane and great care needs to be taken when leaving the property, especially with pets. It can be quite busy and some traffic did not slow down as you would expect. Vans, buses and even HGV's use the lane and the road signage is poor.

  • "Situated in the middle of the Gower and perfect for a week to explore the area."

There is a small post office in the village for very basics and a petrol station about a mile away selling a good variety of provisions, otherwise you will need to shop before you reach the Peninsula. A traditional cottage it is clean and has everything you need with plenty of room in the kitchen/dining area for a large dog. The boiler broke while we were there but one phone call in the morning and it had been mended by the time we had returned in the late afternoon. The seating area in the garden nicely catches the afternoon and evening sun. Would definitely recommend a stay here as good value for money.

  • "We had a great week in Gower as Reynoldston is perfect for exploring ."

As mentioned by others , the property is on a surprisingly busy and very tight corner of the road with traffic having to stop and maneovre very close to the gate to the small outside space at the side of the cottage . The mattresses on the loft twin beds are very cheap and uncomfortable. Considering we paid almost £1000 for the week we felt that there could have been a basic welcome pack even if only some milk and a few Welsh cakes for example . There are minor maintenance issues as documented in other reviews but they have not been fixed . We will be returning to the area next year but have booked a different property already as the area is so popular

I'm very sorry that you were disappointed by your stay. Thank you for mentioning the minor maintenance issues, which have now been addressed eg new mattresses are being supplied in the mezzanine above the kitchen and a new shower head has been fitted. The mezzanine is really only suitable for older children (as stated in the property details) but nevertheless I'm very sorry that those particular guests weren't comfortable. Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately there were a few issues at the property which some may say are trivial."

However the downstairs toilet and shower were a problem. Firstly the lock on the door was not working, the toilet is loose and not screwed to the floor correctly, the toilet seat was loose and finally the shower head sprays out of the side. The other problem was the door from the kitchen to the living room. I know you can't change the size of the doors or the step from room to room However, my elderly father fell down the step on a number of occasions but my husband hit his head on the door frame, causing a significant cut to his head. The frame around the door is so sharp and unforgiving and no attempt has been made to highlight or reduce the risk of injury on either the low frame or step. There was also a bulb blown in the utility room and although there are spare bulbs, they are the wrong type of bulb. Unfortunately the quality of the beds were poor and uncomfortable. The two beds in the loft area were nothing more than camp beds and none of our party were comfortable at night. The corner location is also a bit of an issue with parking and as it is a pinch point In the road there were many many occasions, where people were emergency stopping as cars were coming the other way and I was fully expecting my car to be damaged at some point. Unfortunately the injury caused a downer to the holiday as it was a terrible hit, causing my husband to fall to the floor with blood pouring from his head. Although the cottage is in a lovely location, the layout and problems with the property would mean that we wouldn't book the location again.

  • "On arrival we entered the cottage; immediately the smell of mould and dampness hit us !"

Not only that but it was extremely cold! The heating wasn’t put on to warm the cottage up prior to our arrival! Admittedly it was the weekend of storm Arwen so it was quite extreme weather but surely all the more reason to try and heat the cottage for guests comfort! The cottage itself has the potential to be a beautiful place to stay but it is in need of redecorating; there were a few areas that looked like there were some leaks from the eaves as there were drips down some of the walls, the downstairs shower room had black mould where the tiles met the shower tray and the wall at the top of the shower were also mouldy! The wall on the living room up the side of the wall looked like it had damp patches up it! The beds were not very comfortable as the mattresses were hard and seemed narrow and short for the men in our party. The slats in one of the singles slipped out of place! It was disappointing to be honest and such a shame because it has the potential to be such a lovely place to stay ; it just needs a little more thought and some TLC!

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Corner Cottage, we renamed it Cwtch corner cottage as it is so cozy, chillier early mornings were spent in the lounge with the fire on and snuggled up on the very comfortable sofas under a blanket!"

it’s in a lovely spot facing out onto the village green and our Golden Retriever puppy spent many a happy hour watching the sheep nibbling the grass and then trotting past the cottage, the window sill in the main bedroom is low so he could sit and see the world go by. The cottage has everything that you need for your stay and will happily accommodating people. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a huge oven, small dishwasher, washer dryer in the utility room and a fridge with freezer compartment. Parking is at the front of the cottage with room for one car. The parking to the rear (immediately outside the kitchen window) is for the cottage next door. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the third twin which is a mezzanine above the kitchen provided our teenager with a great space to chill out. The bath upstairs is large is great for a relaxing soak after a day out at the beach or walking and there is a decent shower in the downstairs shower room. For rainy days or quieter evenings there is a chess set, piano with a Beatles sheet music book, a puzzle and a great selection of books and DVD’s. The outside space runs to the side of the cottage and the patio is a nice place to sit and watch the sheep going about their daily routines. Just opposite the cottage is a public footpath that we used to take out our dog, he loved paddling in the brook and we walked him through the fields. Care needs to be taken as their is livestock roaming about. We found that the first part of the walk was dog friendly with stiles that can be walked through, but when you reach a small road and move into another footpath, the stiles are the climb over sort and not suited to trying to lift a nine month old retriever over or other large dog. Great local shop in the village selling a good variety of products and local delicacies. This is also the Post Office too. The King Arthur pub is well frequented and although we didn’t stay for a drink due to the ongoing COVID situation, Grandma enjoyed a takeaway coffee. Oxwich is the nearest beach and is great for rockpooling, swimming, stand up paddle boarding and is very dog friendly. There is a hotel on the beach with a good restaurant and also a shop and other eating facilities. We will return to Corner cottage I’m sure.

The cottage is a good size with a lovely kitchen/diner. Outside space is limited and not private being next to a bottleneck in the road through the village, but it is a sun trap. The kitchen is well equipped, making home cooking easier. However the cooking range is elderly and some of the control knobs come off making it a bit hit and miss with accuracy. The cottage, linens and furnishings were all clean. But the windows hadn’t been cleaned for some time and the paintwork within the cottage needs refreshing. The village is very pretty and it’s a short and pleasant walk up to a pub serving food. We always managed to park opposite the cottage, but parking is on a first come basis so that might not always be possible. ********** Owner response ********** Thank you for your feedback, we have now replaced the cooker with a new one.
