  • "The cottage was excellent, very comfortable and homely."

It was very quiet and a super base to explore north Pembrokeshire. We loved the stream in the garden and the sheep in the field. Be aware there is no welcome pack so ensure you have your own milk tea coffee for arrival. Also the listing says fuel is provided. This does NOT include any solid fuel for the fires. We would happily return.

  • "The cottage itself is lovely: clean, comfortable, well equipped."

We especislly appreciated the fact that matches, kindling, and logs were left for us. The beds are very comfortable. The place was spotless…which leads us to our one big complaint. As a dog friendly rental, we appreciate your request to keep the very lovely back garden clean. However, this needs to be checked between renters; we had to clean up masses of “remains”, far more than our medium sized collie produced. This did cast a bit of a pall on an otherwise pleasant week. As responsible dog owners, we cleared up everything we could find, but really did not appreciate all of the extra, especially after paying an extra fee to have our own dog there. I fear not all dog owners are responsible, so that a scan of the garden between rentals really should be done. (If we had arrived with children, for example, things would have got messy very quickly.) I am sorry to have to write this, because otherwise Ty Gwyn is lovely and we would recommend it.

Thank you for your feedback. Firstly I apologise for the mess in the garden. The garden is regularly checked and was checked on the day before your arrival so I'm not sure what could have happened on this occasion. I am pleased you enjoyed Ty Gwyn and thank you for your kind comments. Once again apologies and thanks for the feedback. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic characterful and cosy cottage!"

The location is just the very best - completely private, quiet and so so peaceful. Although the owner and house keeper are are only a call away if needed - it's great that you just turn up, let yourself in and make yourself at home without any fuss. Clear instructions on how everything operates are there. The garden as so many others have said makes it really special with the lovely stream running its full depth. Perfect for dogs and I guess children - enough grass area for a game of five aside football?? The spacious rear entrance hall/utility room is especially good when you come in from a walk... The stable type door is also a treat when the weather's good! Shower mat and second countertop freezer (in addition to the undercounter fridge - small freezer compartment) are provided! Both double beds have excellent mattresses with lovely linen! All in all an excellent hideaway - but within only a few miles of Fishguard, beaches etc etc... We has a wonderful time and loved the cottage!

Hi Adrian Thanks for your lovely comments and I am really glad you enjoyed Ty Gwyn. Once again, many thanks. Gerry Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased you enjoyed your visit to Ty Gwyn. Thank you for informing me of the kitchen smell which is now being investigated and addressed. Thanks again for your comments. Property Owner

Truly didn't want to leave, was just perfect. Garden excellent for my son and my pup, they loved it. To a point my pup didn't wanna come in and seemed to wanna make Friends with the sheep. Perfect for Christmas, the only draw back was we didn't have a tree, seemed as though we had tree decorations dotted around the cottage but no Christmas tree. Just as a nice touch maybe put up a tree where the side table is by the two chairs in the t.v room. Everything else stunning and beautiful and thank you for a pleasant stay.

  • "Needs a big freezer!"

! Cannot fault this property we had such a lovely holiday and just the getaway we needed. Very clean, comfortable, private I just felt away from it all. We had 3 party family groups in local cottages celebrating a big birthday near by and Ty Gwyn was by far the best. I don’t like to say anything negative because this cottage doesn’t deserve a negative (I said on several occasions I want to live here!!) BUT it has a tiny (very frosted) freezer. I feel with the cost of living and the distance of shops a freezer IS A MUST!!! I went to co op in Fishguard (£55 for 2 days) so expensive!! We did a BIG shop Haverfordwest and had no freezer space at all. Winter coming, family holidays, food costs it NEEDS a decent freezer. ALSO, I agree with the previous comment on the shower mat. My 4 year old slipped and hit his head in the shower, I was very careful but once you use conditioner it really does need a shower mat. Would recommend, would return, love the holiday BUT needs a freezer and a shower mat for sure!!! Ps I felt we had summer duvets, low Tog. Especially in the single room needs a thicker tog. Lovely holiday, was happy all week just observations. Wishing you all the best

  • "Thank you so much, we really had a great time and loved the cottage."

Everything you’d need was there and it was really cosy in the evenings. The dogs loved the garden and the cottage was ideally located to explore the Pembrokeshire Coast. The only very minor thing that could be considered to add to the cottage would be a non-slip shower mat available in the bathroom for use in the shower.

  • "A lovely cottage in a smashing location but it does lack some facilities you might expect."

It is the only self catering cottage that we’ve used that didn't provide a welcome package that has things like milk and a few nice bits in to get started. A bit disappointed in such a rural location where you don’t know where shops are! There is no freezer which is essential for a family of four self catering! The mattresses, quilts and pillows are in dire need of replacement. The TV couldn’t be much smaller and not ideal at all. The garden and dog friendly elements were super albeit that the dog barrier is broken for the stairs.

  • "We had a really lovely holiday in Pembrokeshire and Ty Gwyn was a fantastic base for us: three adults, two dogs and a teenager."

The main draw for us before booking was the large, enclosed garden and stand alone location of the house for the dogs. It proved an excellent choice in this regard and we all enjoyed paddling in a little brook alongside the garden (esp in the heatwave). The cottage is charming if a little small. The advertised images makes it look a lot bigger! Whilst very comfortable, the small cottage style windows make the dining room dark but fortunately, we spent most days eating outside as the weather was great. On the kitchen front, it’s perfectly workable and well equipped, our only recommendation (as we cooked in every day) would be the supply of some decent knives. Overall, the cottage was very clean on arrival, the fixtures and fittings of quality and the two double beds super comfortable. If I were to visit the area again, I’d definitely be happy to return to Ty Gwyn.

  • "Just back from a week stay at Ty Gwyn."

The cottage is beautiful, clean and well equipped, it makes a great base for exploring the area. The garden is gorgeous, our dog loved having a good run around and paddle in the stream. The garden is mostly enclosed but he managed to find an escape route via one of two drainage pipes which he went through onto the road at the front, luckily the road is very quiet and no damage was done, if the pipes could be covered with some chicken wire it would be completely enclosed. We spent the days exploring the beach around the area, I can recommend Newport & Cardigan Poppit beaches where you can walk for miles. Hopefully we’ll be returning next year

Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed yourselves and that your dog is safe. Putting wire across the pipes can mean they get blocked when water is flowing but we will have a look at alternatives. Thanks again and we are really pleased that your are thinking of returning. • "Ty Gwyn is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location."

The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable, and the flowers on the mantle piece were a lovely touch (tulips are my favourite)! A lady popped by to check on us on the first night which was really thoughtful (apologies if I seemed a little fraught, when I heard the front door I panicked a little thinking my dog may have escaped, he’s a bit of a ‘Houdini’!) which takes me on to the wonderful garden, it is just fantastic. So much space and beautiful. I was able to let my dog run free and he loved it. I did keep a training line on him just incase, as although it’s enclosed and safe, as mentioned above I have an accomplished escape artist, and a beagle in the countryside may always find a way! We enjoyed sitting outside in the evenings and watching for birds & foxes, and just enjoying the peace, with nothing but the sounds of the wildlife and the brook. It’s only a short drive to local amenities too so you are able to stock up for your stay. There is a folder of local walks in the cottage which was such a great thing to find. The beds were comfy and cottage itself perfect. Unfortunately due to work commitments we had to leave early in a bit of a rush, and I missed Ty Gwyn almost immediately. We’re hoping to book again as the whole family fell in love with Wales & this little cottage.

Hi Danielle Thank you very much for your kind feedback on your stay at Ty Gwyn. We are really glad you enjoyed your visit and you summed up why we ( and Sali our spaniel ) love going there. It’s a shame you had to leave early but it is good that you are thinking of coming back to Wales. Thank you again/diolch yn fawr! Gerry & Jacqui. Property Owner

Nice to sit in the south facing garden for meals with just the wildlife and the sound of the babbling brook for company. Large, secure grassed area for our dog to enjoy. Modern kitchen and bathroom were excellent. Cons: Low doorways to living room, dining room and bedrooms. I have bruises on my bruises from the number of times I banged my head! Dining room and living room were also quite dark as they are both north facing with small windows. We had a very enjoyable week and would recommend this cottage as a base to explore this beautiful region of Wales. Just remember to take your hard hat if you’re over 6 feet tall.

  • "There were a few issues with this cottage, some of which we have noted for the caretaker."

The bedroom windows were extremely hard to open - possibly the wood had warped in the weather? The bath has some small bare patches where the white enamel has come off, and the use of hot and cold taps controlling the shower made it hard to achieve the right water temperature. Overall we would not choose to stay at Ty Gwyn again, though we loved its location and the area.

  • "We enjoyed our August stay at Ty Gwynn."

The cottage is good if you are looking to explore the Pembrokeshire coast and it is just a short walk to join the long distance path. The cottage is well presented, with a traditional feel, retains its original sash windows to the front, and has a lovely large rear garden. Positives: Well presented and clean. Well preserved house with traditional feel, slate floor to dining room, but also cosy new carpets and modern comfortable sofa in the living room, nice selection of books. Upgraded outdoor seating and table in sunny spot perfect for summer outdoor evenings. Efficient central heating for colder nights too. Negatives: 1. One bathroom on the ground floor. Not a big issue, but was disappointed that there was no thermostatically controlled shower mixer. This would be beneficial to update as the temperature control was tricky and water flow fairly weak. Plenty of hot water, just needs a better delivery system. A creature comfort worth investing in for customer satisfaction. 2. The main double bed mattress springing was unfortunately quite worn out. I had back pain after a week of sleeping on it and would advise they replace this mattress. The second double bed's mattress (which presumably gets less wear) was much better, but our son had to sleep on this because the single bed frame was broken. To their absolute credit, the owner's housekeeper contacted us as soon as they were made made aware of this by the previous occupant. 3. Owners have recently had the exterior redecorated, which makes it very presentable. Unfortunately, the decorators had painted the sash window to the 2nd bedroom shut, which mean that room was stuffy for our son. Just needs some easing and adjusting to fix this, but a professional decorator should know better - it's a common trade problem. Overall: We did enjoy ourselves. The house and location have much to offer. Only let down by shower and mattress. Otherwise would give it a higher rating.
