  • "This property is outstanding and extremely well-equipped!"

Beautiful scenery with lots of 'nature walks' and within easy distance by car to other towns and lots of attractions to suit everyone. The owners are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and produce their own delicious honey, chutney and free-range eggs (from their lovely chickens). It's also a haven for wildlife - we spotted many birds including Red Kites frequently flying around the amazing Castle, which is in walking distance, and even deer which roam freely. We would highly recommend staying here at any time of the year.

  • "This lovely converted barn is an idyllic hideaway for a peaceful break."

It is nestled in a lovely valley where all you can hear is running water from the stream and the birds. It has beautiful views from the lounge and bedroom with outside space. The accomodation inside is warm, cosy and comfortable. There is nothing they haven't thought of, and it is well set out and tastefully decorated and well equipped with everything you need. It is perfect for couples and very romantic with the backdrop of the Castle, and the stunning surroundings. The owners Tanya and Carl have provided a perfect retreat. We will be booking again.

We had a great week despite the rain. We went for peace and quiet and got plenty of it. Lots of birdlife to watch from the balconies when it was raining so didn't feel we missed out. A great place to get away from it all.

  • "This is such a lovely hidden gem in such a beautiful area."

We were made so welcome by Carl and Tanya. The cottage is cosy and homely and you can tell it is so well looked after. Coffee on the balcony on a sunny morning in September was so peaceful and relaxing! It is very easy to get to other places in Wales (by car). We specifically went to The Gower and Laugharne on our weekend break and we didn't feel it was ages away. Definitely have a trip up to Castle Carreg Cennen which you can see from Dan Castell. We would love to stay again. Thank you.

The most idyllic place to stay with stunning views and an array of feathered friends to watch. All that and a Castle on your doorstep. Lovely Tanya and Carl the owners were fantastic hosts on hand for anything you need. Very friendly. Purchased some of their homemade scrummy honey and freshly laid eggs. The cottage was immaculate well laid out and all you need for a relaxing break. You do need to drive to most attractions although the castle can be reached by a long or short walking route straight from the property. The castle tea rooms was a highlight with lovely homemade wares. Would definitely recommend and hope to myself return for another stay.

Travelling through the local access roads can be a little dounting due to the gradients and narrow nature of the roads. The coattage location is quite isolated and travel to places of interest requires long periods in the car. The area is truly suited to seasoned walkers.

  • "We have stayed in some fabulous cottages in the past, but Dan Castell Cottage has been the best by far."

It is perfectly remote, yet not too far off the main road. At night, the sky is inky black, making star gazing incredible. You can lie on the bean bags on the wooden balcony and just look up. The only sounds are the babbling stream, owls hooting and the wind in the trees. Although the owners live in the house next door, they kept respectfully away but were only too helpful should we need anything. The cottage was extremely well designed and is very appointed with solid wood furniture throughout and has a very large sofa with matching armchair downstairs which is all open-plan. The fitted kitchen has a central island, a built in fridge, freezer and small dishwasher as well as an electric fan oven and built-in microwave. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, bath and handbasin. As the water is spring fed, filtered it tastes of pure Brecon water, which is exactly what it is. We would definitely love to return.

  • "Excellent property."

Comfortable, warm, beautiful location with marvellous views from lounge veranda and bedroom balcony. Unfortunately, no Wi-Fi and very little (if any) mobile signal (owner’s - next door - landline number, in case of emergencies). Located in what appears to be ‘the middle of nowhere’, overlooked by the ruins of a spectacular castle (within reasonable walking distance of cottage), this is the place for peace (no sounds except birds and sheep), relaxation and getting away from everything (nearest town about 10/15 minutes drive). Numerous excellent walks from the cottage itself. A place to get away from the humdrum of everyday life, rejuvenate and recharge one’s batteries. The owner’s are excellent (there if needed, otherwise they will not impinge on your privacy/solitude). A place my wife and I would highly recommend (dependent of course, on what is desired by those who choose to stay here). For peace, quiet, relaxation, views, comfort and gorgeous location, we would definitely return.

It was lovely and warm and the bed was very comfortable. We parked our car right at the front of the property and didn't move it again until we left to go home. Two fantastic walks from the cottage door, stunning scenery and a castle to explore. The balcony is perfect for star gazing on a clear night. The minute I saw it on the web site I knew we’d love it but as soon as we arrived in the area and saw the castle upon the hill it just took our breath away. Tanya was there to meet us and told us all about the lovely cottage and we had the most wonderful week. The cottage was extremely clean, well equipped and comfortable. The views were amazing and the thing that made it so special was the total peace and tranquility. On our first night we looked up at the starry sky and saw the Milky Way. The only sound is the river down below. The deck outside is a great place to sit and watch the birds and upstairs the covered balcony is a sun trap and great place to sit and relax. Lovely walks from the cottage including the Castle walk with stunning views of the castle and cottage. Lots of tourist information in the cottage and the wonderful owners are always happy to chat about the area.

The accommodation was by far the best we have ever stayed in. Spacious, comfortable with plenty of seating inside and out, and all that was needed for a self catering stay. It was a real wrench to leave each day to visit the local attractions, all of which were either from the door or just a short drive away. The owners were very friendly and we feel privileged that they allowed us to share their piece of paradise. Sykes should definitely make this a 5 tick cottage.

  • "My holiday week at Dan Castell Cottage was great."

The accommodation was comfortable and spacious, especially for just two people. The owners, who resided adjacent to the cottage, were friendly, helpful and charming throughout our stay. The weather, in the lap of the gods, was pretty good. I have booked with Sykes Cottages many times in the past and have always been pleased with the accommodation provided. My only gripe with this holiday, which should have been in 2020, is with Sykes. When I tried in early 2020 to obtain a refund, as I realised due to the pandemic the holiday wasn't going to happen, I found it impossible to find a way to contact Sykes. It was basically assumed I would re-book for 2021. The money for the holiday was already with the company and although I had taken out the insurance suggested I was not about to be sent a refund. So, I re-booked the holiday for 2021 and was then told there would be a further £65 taken in March 2021, I guess due to a proposed increase in prices for this year. This happened when Sykes were, at the time, offering discounts on holiday cottages. It's easy to blame communication problems with the Covid 19 outbreak but direct contact with someone at Sykes Cottages would have solved a few problems. Regards Mike Norman

Tranquility in the beauty of rural Camarthenshire, The cottage is very well-appointed with a lovely big bathroom with separate shower and a big heated towel rail. We appreciated the two balconies with their views of garden and lush valley. Practical layout with excellent kitchen and dining areas. Full-length windows maximise light and views. Wifi in the property would be important to anyone needing to stay in contact with work or on a writing retreat. That said, it was great to get away from being constantly on-line! Hard to tear ourselves away at the end of our stay! We hope to be back before long!

The nearby castle is simply stunning and as you approach it’s hard not to be awed by its presence.

By day you can watch the red kites and buzzards flying overhead and by night the deep dark skies are perfect for stargazing. It’s an easy drive to the Black Mountains in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and there are plenty of footpaths and beautiful scenery to take in.
