It had everything that we needed. It's a peaceful place and enjoyable to sit outside and watching the variety of birds, walk the grounds and there is a lovely view from the upstairs lounge, great for watching the swooping House Martins! Edwin and Mary were very welcoming and quickly fixed a couple of things in the cottage without being intrusive and inconveniencing us. They are knowledgeable about castles and gardens and were friendly whilst considerate of our privacy. As recommended, the food at the local Red Lion at Llandyfeilog is very good. Plenty of space, plenty of seats and a bigger garden just for this cottage use than the photos appear to show. Plenty of books, a few games and jigsaws for entertainment, decent Internet and a larger tv as well. The horses and dogs are very friendly and all enjoy a chat and pet - loved meeting them all. The horses can sometimes be seen from the cottage which helps to show the lovely countryside view this cottage has. The grounds by the old Mansion is gorgeous too. The grounds around the cottage are superb for walking your pets (cats or dogs). The cottage itself is really roomy with lots of space for a family, it's full of character but with all mod cons ( strong wi-fi, dishwasher, smart TV etc). The weather turned a bit nasty for our last couple of days but we lit the wood burner (which made the place even cosier than it already was) and watched some movies, such a relaxing break. If you don't want to use the wood burner there is plenty of heating throughout. There was a washing machine in the bathroom and the host even provided some soap capsules to use, there was lots of tea and coffee in the kitchen and a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge for our arrival as well as a nice bottle of red wine and chocolates on one of two dining tables. I can't recommend this cottage enough, we really enjoyed our stay here.

The cottage was very spacious and comfortable. It was great to have the dining area downstairs with such a good sized table and on arrival, a very welcoming bottle of wine and chocolates from Mary and Edwin. There was so much space upstairs with wonderful views and although only the two of us, I can see it being a huge bonus to a family. (I wish we’d stayed here when our children were younger). Although Edwin and Mary live in the main house next door, it is still very private and tranquil. Occasionally one of their friendly dogs would poke a nose through the gate to say hello and see what was going on, or Edwin, on his horse, would stop for a chat while we were out for a little walk. The added bonus of the ruined house and its history made the accommodation more special and we enjoyed walking around the gardens, even the wooded driveway up to the house provided a peaceful evening walk. There are some beautiful places to visit nearby, and some great pubs with good food. • "Setting for the cottage is lovely, very quiet just what we wanted."

If you don't mind the steep climb up the lane and driveway to the cottage it is actually a great place to cycle from. There is a quiet back road to Kidwelly and then a national cycle route from there. Also a pleasant quiet ride to the local pub.

  • "Generally very happy with the cottage."

Owners very pleasant and eager to assist with any problems although there were none. Other users complained of the stairs but we found them quite usable and not too steep. Cottage is deceptively roomy and the pictures don't do it justice. Also the use of the large grounds around the cottage a great bonus, especially for us dog owners.

We were visiting relatives so thought we knew the area yet still found plenty of new places. Our dogs thought the cottage great along with the grounds. May go back same time next year. For future guests use the street map sent by Owners in welcome e-mail, it gets you there no problems.
