  • "We have stayed at a few cottages over the years & this was the best!"

It had everything you could possibly need & more. It was beautifully decorated for us for Christmas & they left a lovely Christmassy welcome pack. If we had any complaints, it was that the weather was too warm & we couldn't light the beautiful log burner, but we certainly can't blame the owner for that

Thanks for your feedback—so glad you had a lovely Christmas at Hanover Manse and it was the “best” cottage you’ve stayed in is extra special! Happy New Year and thanks again! Property Owner

  • "Beautiful house & so comfortable."

We were a bridal party of 6 & there was plenty of room. Perfect location for the wedding venue (Sant Ffreadd house - 10 mins away through the lanes). Loads of room for makeup & hair to be done on the Saturday morning. Parking area large enough for 5 or 6 cars & the photographer's van. Bride & groom stayed in the cottage after the wedding & found it very comfortable, warm & cosy. Thank you to Rhiannon for the card & Prosecco for the newly weds.

We are so happy that the accommodation and location was good for you. Congratulations to the newly weds! Property Owner

  • "Lack of hot water downstairs meant carrying kettles full of boiling water to wash up."

No downstairs toilet with high steps on the stairs was wearing for the less mobile. Only one gate tag meant we all had to go out together. To many personal items around e.g. the office in the snug. It doesn't feel like a holiday cottage more like you're intruding in someone's home.

  • "We stayed at Hanover Manse for 7 nights following dropping off our campervan in Caldicot for a bespoke furniture fit-out."

Our party consisted of 2 couples and our Bulldog 'Dudley'. Hanover Manse dates back to 1642 I believe, originally a farmhouse and barn, later becoming a rectory for the nearby chapel. It has been lovingly restored by the current owners, Steve and Stella, who we met when arriving at the property somewhat earlier than specified. They are lovely people, as is their Daughter who has the cottage next door. The property has a considerably large secure garden, mainly laid to lawn, plus an additional small secluded garden. Great for Dudley. It also has a large parking area within the grounds, all secured with electric entrance gates with fob provided. The property itself has 3 double bedrooms, one set-out as a twin, and is full of character, with vaulted exposed-beam ceilings upstairs. It is nicely decorated and has all mod-cons. We found it very comfortable indeed. The area has lots to do and places to visit without venturing too far. We would certainly book a stay here again

  • "We had a lovely stay in Hanover Manse."

It was absolutely ideal for us. We were a party of 6 people; grandparents, parents and two children. We found the owners so welcoming; a lovely food basket of essentials waiting for us; and everytime we bumped into their daughter, she was full of tips and suggestions; extremely helpful. The house was perfect. Each 'couple' had a bedroom and their own bathroom. There was the sitting room where the kids watched TV and the office at the back where grandparents could read in peace. Having the owners items there was also really helpful; particularly in the kitchen as we had all possible utensils; spices, sugars etc. to hand. Really great. A lovely garden and a trampoline for the boys was great, and the excitement of the graveyard next door...somewhere to explore and learn about those who came before us. Across the road is the bakery (yum!) and the canal is about a 10min (max) walk. We explored most days, saw kingfishers, herons, boats and really it was lovely. We will definitely be back. (The cold water downstairs was slightly annoying but only slightly and the house made up for it).

  • "The cottage is lovely , isolated but with a car easy to get around ."

Go left at the top of the road for Abergavenny, Morrisons and the town will have you need. Go right for another retail park Pets at home , Asda , fat foods , Lidl etc. There is a cafe over the road and a canal to the Brecon Beacons. The Cottage as been split over the years the biggest section is the cottage and the barn is the other which the owners daughter lives in. Unfortunately for us we didn’t know was never communicated and just didn’t feel comfortable nor relaxed. The owner next door is lovely but we just wanted privacy and able to relax. The cottage as a snug and this as personal items in belonging to the owners . We kept out and stayed away shut the door . I personally just felt felt uncomfortable with responsibility of having someone’s belongings in the cottage. The cottage feels like their home and this confused us . A holiday let usually is a blank canvas and your kitchen as tools for cooking . The cottage is full of the owners personal items . We personally feel the owner needs to remove them . The downstairs had no hot water they have a leak under floor which they are fixing . The dishwater solved the hot water problem for pot washing. The heating is underfloor and far too hot we were roasting . Please duck your head coming down the stairs if you’re tall you will bang your head. The cottage is very old and humans back then were tiny. Unfortunately we were never communicated that dogs are not allowed upstairs which are dog is use to and as a result we had many sleepless nights trying to comfort her staying downstairs. The owners have a puppy and very sweet . We also didn’t know which needs to be advertised in case your dog is reactive. There is a graveyard right next to the cottage and I mean outside . We personally didn’t mind but never feels at ease.

Answer to the feedback given by Sykes to me: Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you felt uncomfortable during your stay. I take some points as valid and will change them. For example, I feel that it would be good to let guests know that there is an adjoining barn conversion. The owner’s daughter lives there and she has been helpful to guests, e.g. showing how to work the dishwasher etc. Sykes did the advertisement and for most people having an adjoining barn conversion hasn’t been a problem. But I can understand it might be for some. I will put a request in to Sykes to do this. Over the years, my daughter has often had wonderful thank you notes left for her by guests.. We have a large garden and the area where there is an umbrella and garden table and chairs is dedicated to our guests. (The owner’s daughter tells me that her new puppy got into there once during your stay for which she is apologetic). The large area is shared for purposes of football, basketball, and dogs. There is ample parking for everyone. Guests have to take care of their pets, we cannot guarantee total enclosure, although recently we have had a new fence covering a large area to give our guests a feeling of security and privacy. Surrounding our home is a chapel and graveyard on the one side and on the other side you van view mountains in the distance and beautiful trees of the Llanover Estate. There are no housing estates to be seen only a farm across the nearby field. Most of our guests find these views peaceful. I am sorry that you were uncomfortable. I presume it is being close to the graveyard that bothered you. As for the beautiful paintings, piano, and more practical items, such as the printer, they are there for the guests to enjoy and they should not worry over them. The property’s items are insured and they are for the pleasure of the guests. If accidents occur we are insured. There have been no accidents with the glass walls that are mounted in sturdy oak wood since it was put in by builders when we did reconstruction 12 years ago. Many people admire these walls as it gives much more light to the cottage. There are a large number of books available including cook books, gardening books, fiction, science and religious. I intend to keep them all for any guests of any faith or non-faith. I do not insist on anyone reading them. The property is a second grade listed property of much history and our aim is for people staying on the premises enjoy every moment of it. As for the items giving out our personal details, we thank you for letting us know and we will remedy this. Property Owner

  • "First Impression was a strong unpleasant smell which we spent our holiday with windows and doors open trying to clear."

Perhaps the old carpet in the living room which looks never cleaned or previous pets. Floors upstairs and downstairs are sticky which suggests rarely cleaned. Overall maintenance is poor too many little things to mention. We are told to clean the lint and water from the dryer after use and yet there was lint and water there when we first used - is this place properly cleaned between hire? And we stripped the beds as requested (is that really our job?) but that only demonstrated how old some of the bedding is. Not helped by being in the the middle of an undisclosed grave yard which was very unsettling for my wife. We soldiered on to enjoy our holiday with my sister but left a day early.

Very well equipped modern kitchen suitable for number of guests. Also set up as a work space potentially. It was clean, comfortable and a very nice welcome pack. Easy walk to the beautiful Brecon canal and very good access to Bannau Brechiniog and the Black Mountains. Would definitely recommend… price was reduced so felt like very reasonable value for money.

  • "We initially chose this property as we were bringing mum’s ashes back home to South Wales and needed a place fairly local to where she was from that could accommodate 3 adults, a teenager & 2 dogs, and this cottage was perfect."

The advertisement pics don’t really do this property justice as you can see on arrival that further work has been done to improve, particularly the large garden area. Absolutely amazing property both inside & out and the 2 garden areas are perfect. Stunning views of surrounding area, cottage has everything you need and everything you don’t know you need, it’s a very quiet & peaceful location but at the same time also convenient for local amenities. We met the owners daughter and the gardener who were both lovely and very helpful with suggestions as to where to go/what to do. Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage ❤️. Would we book again? Absolutely! A definite home from home

Oh such a lovely response. THANKYOU so much! It makes us so happy to know that our cottage can serve such purposes and that you feel at home in it. Makes me feel that all the preparation is worth it. Thanks again. Property Owner

  • "Hanover Mans is a lovely well appointed and well equipped cottage."

We only had a short stay to visit family and made good use of the kitchen cooking a roast for 7. I found the stairs somewhat difficult due to arthritic knees and a downstairs toilet would have been perfect. Having said that I would recommend it as it was isolated enough to be a peaceful break in lovely surroundings and near enough to Newport and Abergavenny. All in all a comfortable stay in a lovely cottage

  • "Beautiful cottage ,but sadly we were very disappointed that when we arrived we were informed the electronic gates to the cottage are not working ,and had be broken for a while so we could not exercise our dog freely in the very large garden, which was a real shame as we had purposely booked this cottage for this reason ."

There is a main road quite near to to cottage . Sadly the gates were not repaired while we were there , definitely not a dog friendly garden as advertised ,perhaps two normal swing gates would be more appropriate. Please update your Sykes website
