  • "Lovely set of cottages, we stayed in The Old Cow Barn, in a comfortable and roomy setting, high-end appliances."

Andrew is a very friendly and helpful owner, the welcome basket was greatly appreciated. Well equipped for all, abled and disabled, and everything catered for our stay. Only downside was the brightness of outdoor lights shining through the bedroom, maybe blackout curtains for downstairs bedrooms would help for an otherwise peaceful night. Lovely forest/beach walks in the vicinity. Our first but probably not last stay here in Wales, even the rain downpours made it even more appreciable to return to the cosy cottage!!

Thank you very much for your feedback Isabelle, glad you had a lovely stay and look forward to hopefully welcoming you again in the future. Regards Andrew Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful and a restful long weekend."

Very quiet clean and spacious cottage, we really enjoyed our stay 30 min drive away to either Tenby or Carmarthen town. Really appreciate the welcome pack as well.

Thank you for review Sanjeewa, glad you had a wonderful stay with us and I apologise again for the oven door hinge that was broken but we have rectified that now. Look forward to seeing you again in the future. Regards Andrew Property Owner

  • "This is the second time I have stayed at the barn and can’t recommend it enough."

The place is very clean and welcoming. Lovely gift basket left full of goodies to enjoy. Everything you need to enjoy your stay from fluffy towels to dishwasher tablets all supplied. Out of the way but only a short drive to all attractions and beaches. There were 7 of us and 2 dogs and loads of space to mingle around. Had a lovely birthday take away on the large farm house table. Table and chairs outside to eat out in the summer. Enclosed front garden so the dogs were safe to run around to. Will definitely be booking again later in the year. Had a high five from everyone in my family for choosing such a super place. Had no problems but knew the owners were close at hand if needed and sent a lovely message hoping we had enjoyed our stay and a safe journey home.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review Heather, we really appreciate your custom a second time round and look forward to seeing you again in the future. Regards Andrew Property Owner

  • "The property had lots of dead flies on arrival."

The garden was not secure as stated. Our small dogs were able to get under the fence and gate. We were also not aware that the garden was shared with the adjacent barn. This meant we had to keep our dogs in in the last day of our holiday as the other tenants kept leaving the gate open. The washing machine inside rubber was full of dirt and the noise it made was horrendous. The owner did make contact to apologise but this didn’t really help us. We were told to use fly spray but this was impossible to my father having COPD. Also there were no grab rails in either the bath or shower and no anti slip mats.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear your stay with us wasn't as you expected and the issues raised within the property. I can only apologise to you for this but we were unable to really do anything about them till after your visit, these have now been rectified. Our wetroom has recently been refurbished with handrails added after your feedback. I will liaise with Sykes regards the advertisement of secure garden space for pets for clarification so we don't have this issue in the future. Regards Andrew Property Owner

  • "We had a very comfortable stay at this amazing barn."

There were only 2 of us there (plus dog) so we didn’t need so much space. But it was a real luxury to be able to spread out. There was lots to see and do within a short driving distance, but we didn’t manage it all due to bad weather. However, that didn’t matter as we had the luxury of the smart TV, Netflix etc to help us pass the time whilst sheltering from the wind and rain. We also loved the large enclosed garden where the dog could play safely and the very generous welcome pack.

Thank you for your feedback Val and glad you had a great stay with us, hopefully see you again in the future for another stay. Regards Andrew Property Owner

We only wish it had more rights of way/footpaths without getting in the car to take the dog for a walk.

  • "Having planned to take my elderly mother from Newport, Shropshire, for a week's holiday with my sister in Abergavenny, I suddenly found myself needing to make alternative arrangements when we heard that my sister had become unwell."

It was too short notice to book online, so I called Sykes who checked and established that my initial two choices of properties couldn't be made available in time, but the staff were very helpful, calling me back and suggesting others I could look at. My third attempt was The Old Cow Barn near Laugharne and we made the 150 mile journey that same Monday afternoon for a 5-night stay. We arrived after dark and were delighted to find this cluster of three converted barns surrounding a courtyard area beautifully illuminated with strings of colourful led lights and dancing Christmassy images projected upon the white walls of the barns. It was a jolly and welcoming sight. Upon entering the barn, we were further warmed to see a lovely lighted Christmas tree and other festive decorations - and a very nice welcome pack on the table. The furnishing is simple, cosy and well-thought out, with lots of lovely beams, a gorgeous mezzanine floor with its twin bedroom and own bathroom in addition to the two ground floor bedrooms and wet room. My other sister and brother in law joined us for three days and we all really loved this holiday home. The owners were really kind and helpful, too, and we could not fault the hospitality. We also enjoyed exploring Laugharne, as well as Tenby and Carmarthen which are within easy reach by car. We would definitely recommend Sykes and the Laugharne Barns to anyone considering a holiday in this region.

Thank you for your lovely review Alison, I remember your stay well as you were one of our first guests after we had recently taken over the business from the previous owners. We were glad you chose us for your pre xmas get away and hope to see you again in the future. Regards Andrew Property Owner

  • "We spent one week in the old cow barn and it was an enjoyable stay."

There were a couple of issues with a blind missing on a bedroom skylight and the amount of what appeared to be animal hair around the cottage. This was also met with a slightly cold reception from the contact when i inquired about the hoist i had requested. But All in all it was a good week would we return to the same cottage? probably not! it just needs a little bit of TLC Sorry to be negative!

Thank you for review Andrew, since your stay the properties have been under new ownership from October 2018 and we have improved everything from outside areas, new facilities internally (bathrooms, flooring, furniture and utilities). We are currently renovating the main farmhouse so we can live on site from June 2024 which will make the whole property much more appealing. We look forward to hopefully having you stay again with so you can see the improvements. Regards Andrew Property Owner

These lovely holiday homes are ideal for families with plenty to see and do in the area. The larger of the two properties is The Mill and Stable, which has been converted from a grain store and stable, where horses were once kept and includes a pulley shaft in the sitting area which at one time drove the mill. The other conversion, The Old Cow Barn was as it is named a cow barn within the farmyard. Traditional in style and with character features, these cottages have everything that you need in order to enjoy a pleasant stay within this part of South Wales. Both of these charming properties are set up with wheelchair users in mind, with both having a care bed and wet room shower. The owner is also able to provide a hoist and raised chair. Both also have open plan living areas, an en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath, off road parking and shared use of a lawned garden. Close by is the town of Laugharne, which is set overlooking the Taf River Estuary, and you may wish to visit poet Dylan Thomas’ boat house and writing shed. The town also has a castle and a selection of shops and pubs. Also within reach is the sandy beach at Pendine, the seaside resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot and the superb Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Two welcoming holiday homes in a great location.

Laugharne, with its majestic castle standing on a low ridge overlooking the wide Taf River Estuary, is famous for its associations with the poet Dylan Thomas, and a visit to his Boat House and the writing shed where he wrote most of his works is a wonderful experience. Beautiful walks in and around the castle, with breathtaking views of the estuary, can be followed by cream teas in quaint little tea rooms, a drink in the local pub or shopping in the gift shops and mini market. The nearby sandy beach at Pendine is where many land speed records have been famously set on its seven mile stretch of beautiful flat sand, and a little further afield are the seaside resorts of Tenby and Saundersfoot.
