• "We were disappointed to see the oil fired Aga, which is permanently on, as the only form of cooking other than a microwave."

  This led to huge problems as we were staying there in a Red Alert heat warning and the Aga could not switch off. The dining/sunroom which had 3 huge glass areas had no blinds nor curtains and so could not be used after early morning, it was too hot in there and there was no way of shading it. The heat build up in the cottage due to these factors made it highly uncomfortable and as we are elderly, not really a safe environment with the degree of heat pumped out by the Aga combined with the outdoor temperatures nudging the mid thirties centigrade and a Red heat alert, so we came home and lost 3 days of our holiday. The inside of the property was well maintained and clean but the garden and hedges were sadly neglected which is a pity as there is a glorious view from there but the unkempt hedges affected its enjoyment. The wooden outdoor seating was fine to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee but if any longer was to be spent out there e.g. an afternoon to relax and read, the garden furniture was highly uncomfortable as there were no cushions . As we were leaving the mains water supply failed, a nearby resident said it was a regular occurrence because of its location on a hill top, when there was heavy use of water lower down the village. He said it would return in an hour. The cottage would be fine in Spring, Autumn or Winter but not recommended for Summer unless the Aga could be switched off when the mercury rises, the property is clearly not ready for climate change.

  Thank you for your feedback. There is in the kitchen cupboards an Air fryer and a 2 ring electric cooker for all our guests to use and enjoy with a Gas BBQ. We are looking into air conditioning to aim towards the climate change. We did have cushions for our benches but they were enjoyed and removed by other Guests. We are not on a water meter and indeed the water leak was 1/2 way down Nannys Lane close to Kilfrew Farm. The hedges cannot be cut until September as we have to wait in the countryside for the fledglings to fly their nests. As advertised the Aga is a feature enjoyed by many of our guests and Air Con is not advertised with Sykes Cottages but we have enclosed a Dyson fan. Woods Cottage built in 1840 will be ready for climate change when we can. Best wishes Rachael Property Owner

  Beautiful outside and in. Wonderful location, peaceful and rural, just the way we like it. The cottage itself is very spacious. Very well looked after. A home anyone would love to live in. We couldn’t fault the place and would definitely return.

• "We had a wonderful holiday and in fact have booked again."

  We don't actually think that the property description does it justice. It is larger than perhaps indicated. For example there is an additional showeroom downstairs and a "snug". We are really looking forward to returning.

• "This was an amazing cottage for our five night stay and two dogs."

  The place was spacious with three bedrooms, large bathroom with huge bath and a separate shower, shower room downstairs and huge garden. I was concerned the garden would not be secure for a younger escape artist dog but he didn't get out. The area is very rural, quite and full of beautiful walks. The hot tub was an added bonus which we used every evening after our long walks. We loved this cottage so much it was hard to leave. Raglan has a Tesco Express, a pharmacy, a few pubs serving food and a chip shop. Monmouth was about 15 minutes drive with a Waitrose and a Lidl. We had an amazing authentic tasting curry at Indian Summer The host was great and happy to answer any questions quickly. We will definitely be back in the summer.

• "We absolutely loved this cottage and how peaceful it was, we live busy lives so was nice to unwind and relax for a few days."

  Beds were very comfy and the bath was lovely to soak in, the hot tub was a nice added extra Communication with hosts were spot on I read on another review about extras needed in the cottage and I think they were right, things we needed but couldn’t find which would benefit having (especially when trying to make a roast dinner) colander, tongs, jug I think you would also benefit from having some new pans as they are quite worn Instructions on how to use the Aga would help future guests. Overall we did really enjoy this cottage and we go away 5/7 times a year so would come back and recommend to people also Thank you for a pleasant stay

• "1. Directions to the property need updating, as this is not clear nor accurate."

  Thankyou to the locals for directing us when we were going around in circles. 2. Kitchen is not as fully equipped as described on website and instruction manual for certain facilities would be most useful for future guests. 3. Extremely comfortable and cosy, highly recommended for relaxation overall.

• "The host was excellent, the property very large and is beautiful."

  Loved the kitchen particularly the AGA. Lovely views and very secluded for a relaxing break. Garden perfect for our dog and the road is quiet for walking. Comfortable furniture and very clean. Hot Tub was brilliant to wind down. Raglan town has some places to eat. Had a lovely meal in the Beaufort Inn. Trip to White Castle was lovely and loved Abergavenny. Would like to return again.
