  • "Acorn Lodge 'could' be absolutely amazing if it was maintained properly."

The rooms are a good size, having a sauna and whirlpool bath is a real treat. The location is perfect for visiting the area and it's a nice peaceful site. BUT...it needs some maintenance!! Firstly, the shower was just a dribble, you could get wetter standing out in the rain, the carpet was badly stained,( maybe wooden flooring would be more practical), the oven was disgusting with grease, the windows were so dirty it spoilt the view, the cutlery drawer was grubby with bits of food in, the kitchen cupboards were the same, the wooden trim around the bath was black and there was a strange smell. Outside could do with looking at too not kept up together as other properties on site. We had to stay as we had booked a few attractions and didn't want to lose our money. We should've had family joining us later in the week but cancelled them as we left a few days early. We contacted Sykes regarding the issues they were apologetic but it did take from 2nd Oct to 4th for In Property Team to get back to us, so in the meantime we had replaced the showerhead and bought air freshener. We had read the reviews before and seen there were some issues, but they have obviously not been addressed.

  • "The lodge was in a nice location and was a good size."

It has anything that you would need. The main thing that let it down was the cleanliness of the lodge. The furniture and carpets need renewing. There was an awful smell in every room and we found out that it was from the hover bag that had not been changed so the smell lingered. Some of the trays and cupboards in the kitchen were dirty and greasy. Overall the place needs a dam good clean.

  • "Absolutely fantastic setting, for a real relaxing break, a comfortable lodge as described."

Even has a Sauna though not used. We had an issue with a leaking kettle that was rectified within a few hrs, great communication with owner. However minor niggles Broken light on decking ( not main light) Door lock to toilet broken Steps into lodge need levelling , however that’s wear and tear, but I would look at. However main issue is hygiene, a lot of areas dusty, sofa legs, coffe table, dirty windows and worst of all the cobwebs on the decking, i quick jet wash between guests could sort this. Overall great, it was the detail. Thank you to David for a well needed break.

  • "In general for the price we paid it was perfectly adequate."

On the plus side it was nicely located in the woodland with a nice little walk at the side of the property for the dog. The lodge itself was a good size with a large enclosed outside decking area. We enjoyed the sauna & whirlpool bath. On the minus the property was in need of an update and was not cleaned adequately enough for us . Also it was awkward to park between the two trees and the bay needed some form of hardcore as it was muddy underfoot.

So the cleaning must be a matter of opinion as the cleaner was emphatic that it was cleaned. On the question of parking, I doubt that anyone would look to park between the two trees and given the time of year and the weather we have had this past month it is likely to be messy underfoot. However I can accept that additional hardcore would improve the parking area. Property Owner

. before leaving we were a little concerned because of some reviews on the site.. but they couldn’t be more wrong.. the lodge was beautiful it was rustic and very Swiss like… it was clean and tidy and just amazing… we loved everything about it.. if I was going to be extremely critical I would say that the bed were a slight bit uncomfortable ( but I’ve slept on much worse) but I’ve come from my home with a memory foam so I wouldn’t even bother to address it.. the room were a beautiful size and easy to warm up it wasn’t cold at all… it was so quiet inside even with noise outside it couldn’t be heard inside…. The lodge came with a beautiful sauna that we took complete advantage of daily, it also had the best bath I’ve ever been it it was massive and a whirlpool type.. amazing times.. the kitchen was well stocked and the 5 nights we wanted for nothing.. it was a please to cook and eat there.. the views where beautiful and the morning coffee on the bench outside was a welcome break.. i absolutely loved it there… a few people had mentioned the shower but it was fine I honestly have showered in far worse water pressure.. I think people need to understand this isn’t a vote it’s a wooded cabin in the hills… the water was warm the cabin was lovely and warm I can’t fault it i think the owner had some amazing, and I would 100 % recommend it and we will be returning.. thanks for allowing us to stay in you beautiful property.. it was a pleasure x

All the fittings were slightly worn and dusty. There was only 1 tea towel and 1 bin bag for the whole week with 6 people and only a tiny amount of hand soap. The shower was unusable the water pressure was so low but the bath was nice.

  • "We had a really nice time in Acorn lodge."

Cosy when warm, bed was comfortable and really enjoyed the luxury of the sauna an jacuzzi. The site was very quiet, but not easy to get to. However there are a few things to improve for us to return to, or recommend, these being as follows. Lounge was not thoroughly cleaned with crumbs and items under and behind furniture, alot of kitchen utensils needed to be cleaned before use, shower was next to useless to use as no pressure, needs an electric power shower. Toilet cistern button in small toilet stayed down so did not stop flushing several times, main bathroom door catch did not retract fully, so nearly locked in bathroom a couple of times, hot and cold taps plumbed in wrong way around, trim coming off of jacuzzi. Kitchen cooker hood not working, kitchen cupboard door nearly falling off, 1 kitchen chair too dangerous to use as falling apart, tv remote had no batteries in and the other one did not work properly, No key to open door in bedroom to access balcony, outside key safe broken. The welcome book is very tatty and falling apart with pages falling out, and some typed up information is crossed out with pen, with written in new information. Not very professional. Items to have in lodge, I suggest music system, full length mirror, kitchen spatula, clock radio in bedroom, windows not clear and improve garden and steps to match other well looked after lodges on site. However after all this we still enjoyed our stay.

  • "When we arrived at acorn lodge, it had not been serviced and no one had been in the lodge since the last family."

This was not a great start to our holiday, my youngest daughter was crying and wanting to return home. We could not get hold of the owner, but Sykes contacted a cleaner to come. We had to wait over an hour, then another hour for cleaning. Not ideal after a 7 hour drive. Due to this the property was cold and no hot water on arrival… not even a toilet roll! Unfortunately the wardrobes and cupboards were rather old and smelled rather musty so we didn’t use them and had to live out of our suitcases for the week, in addition the spare pillows were in the wardrobes and could not be used because of the smell. The lodge itself was in a lovely quiet location and of a good size and layout. The sauna was a nice addition. However we felt a little updating and a bit more care is needed. The water pressure in the shower was very poor and not very easy for a hair wash. In the kitchen there was no washing up sponge or washing up liquid (I have never experience that in a holiday cottage) also the tea, and sugar containers were empty but dirty and the small amount of coffee was turning grey and rock solid - so had been there a while without being checked or cleaned. Also no spare toilet rolls were left in the building or spare bin bags - which was handy when ours split whilst taking it out of the bin, we we ending up having to carry the whole kitchen bin to the bin area to tip it all in. With a bit more care and attention the lodge could be a lovely place to stay.

So the text I received reads as follows and sets a different ton! "27/10/2022 3.33pm Yes very disappointingwhen we arrivedbut the cleaners arrived after an houror so and were very apologeticand soon had the place cleaned up." My understanding was that the cleaner made a genuine mistake and that she was warmly received, clearly we would like to think that everything runs smoothly just very unfotunate how things went in this instance. As to wardrobes these are part of the fabric of the lodge as to the smell I am unable to comment, its certainly not normally a issue! We are surprised at the lack of basic cleaning materials etc as our instruction to the cleaner is for basic stuff to be available at the lodge. Specifically on bin bags twice last year we left enough to last a whole year, we have to assume that someone has helped themselves to them. Yet again there is a comment about more care and attention without anything specific, it makes it difficult to know what the issues are especially when other guests do not appear to have had the same issues. • "Nice spacious cabin, in lovely settings."

Unfortunately the cabin needs a lot of t.l.c. Most of the issues had been mentioned in the guest book, some going back years, but had obviously not been addressed. The owner was at the cabin on arrival, checking out the veranda, which was loose, and said he was getting it fixed ASAP. A lot of little things just need sorting, if these were done , it would be a lovely cabin.

I am able to advise that he balcony has now been fully refurbished so this is one item dealt with. We will continue to adress issues, it would be helpful if items were noted rather than a vague "needs a lot of tlc" as then issues can be addressed. Property Owner

The setting is beautiful and the facilities are good but could do with some upgrading. Basic interiors. Beds not very comfortable. Kids found it hard getting in and out of the top bunk bed. The outside decking area is lovely but the furniture is basic and one of the plastic chairs broke when getting off it (I’m not that heavy!). Could do with a nice outside dining table and chairs.

  • "The cottage is in a very shaded spot and there needs to be some maintenance to the roof and clearing some near branches, so as to improve ventilation and light."

It was a bit damp in the back bedroom and we chose not to use it. There was ample space to sleep in the living area instead. It is a shame that the two water tanks do not hold quite enough water to be able to fill the jacuzzi bath adequately and we had to heat water with the kettle and pans to top it up to the right level. A larger water tank might be worth investing in. Otherwise, the cottage was lovely and in a beautiful location. I would amend the instructions on how to find it and add a bit more detail as it was difficult to find (especially in the dark and without a satnav). I would make mention of passing under a bridge and a brow of a hill and that the right turning is after the second 'Araf, slow' sign on the road. The sauna was wonderful (and the jacuzzi). The CD player did not work very well, the lid is tricky to get to stay closed. The beds were comfortable.

No problems with any equipment whatsover, everything worked really well. Loved the fact there was a book of instructions and some little notes on the switches(saying what is it and what to do with it). Sauna became hot really quickly so it was perfect. Jacuzzi worked really well. We had the best time ever. Not only there were lots of plates, pots and cutlery but some extras like salt and ketchup. Thank you very much we enjoyed it a lot and all our friends now know what to book for their holiday ;)

  • "Acorn Lodge is a little hidden gem of a log cabin, tucked away in the woodlands just outside St."

Clears. The cabin is spacious, clean and well equipped to host up to 6 people. The living and sleeping areas are homely. The TV has a built in DVD which is not advertised. The kitchen is well equipped adequate to allow you to cook a full meal. The only thing missing is the washing machine so bring enough clothes. The bathroom has a spa bath which we enjoyed most nights and the sauna is a real treat for those that enjoy them. The only compensating loss is the shower is very small. Other cabins in the same wood offer an outdoor jacuzzi, which space at the cabin would allow. Overall, we loved our stay. We left relaxed and would happily return again next year.

The shower therefore had no power to the water that came out of the head. Personally, we would have preferred the space that has been given to the sauna to have been allocated to the shower, the shower cubicle was very small with not much room to move and put shampoo etc. It's a shame that in our opinion the property was great with the exception of the shower of which for us is an important part of our accommodation requirements.
