  • "We had a really good week in Penmorfa and enjoyed our stay."

The bungalow is in an excellent position in a fabulous location. It could be even better if the soft furnishings were cleaned, chipped crockery replaced, weeds around the terrace dealt with etc.

  • "We had such a lovely time at this cosy cottage for New Year!"

The property had all of the amenities you could need for a short stay. The decking is a great addition to the front garden that overlooks the sea. The only dilemma we had was the very steep hill up to the house to unload and load the car - just be prepared to make a few runs back and forth from the bottom of it to the top where the cottage is situated. We especially loved the views, log fire and the open plan space of the dining area/sitting room/snug. We'll definitely be back again and thank you very much for having us to stay!

Hi Fleur - Thanks so much for your feedback and glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Penmorfa. Whilst the property description does make clear the steepness of the last 50 yards to the property, we'll revisit the wording to ensure this is made clearer for unloading/loading of luggage for future guests. Thank you and we hope you'll visit again soon! Property Owner

  • "This cottage has so much potential."

But it's damp and three out of the four bedrooms had storage heaters that didn't work. Some of the soft furnishings e.g. rugs and bedding were dirty. It's in a lovely location and would only take a little bit of TLC to sort these issues out. A bigger problem is the access. It's impossible to get a car to the gate to load and unload and the last 50m is very difficult for anyone who has mobility issues or is carrying children. I would love to come back to this village but not to this property.

Hi Jill - thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We have now fitted brand new heaters and towel rails throughout the property to ensure it's cosy, warm and dry for guests. I'm sorry that you found dirty rugs/bedding, this is not the standard we expect the property to be left for our guests and have actioned accordingly. With regards to the access, the property description does make clear the steepness of the last 50 yards to the property but we're taking your comments on board and will revisit the wording to ensure this is made clearer for unloading/loading of luggage for future guests. • "The property is in a fantastic location…with views to both bays!"

! The inside is comfy and well appointed but could do with a lick of paint, it’s looking a bit tired. The outside has huge potential but needs quite a bit work and some gardening doing..! But the complete silence at night was amazing. I would definitely go back even though getting the car up to the property to unload/load was quite challenging!

Hello - thank you for taking the time to leave feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay. We've now added stone work around the decking to keep the weeds at bay and make it more of a relaxing haven to enjoy a drink with spectacular views. We now also have a regular gardener to keep the front/back garden tidy and we've redecorated through the property where this has needed doing. We hope you'll be back to visit soon! Property Owner

  • "Gate is not attached to wall."

Husband had to lift each time we left property. Steps are a h&s nightmare it's only a matter of time before someone falls. Such a shame your cleaners 100 % let this property down. Yes its in need of a bit of love all paintwork needs a touch up and 2nd bathroom needs to be ripped out but essentially a lovely property in a gorgeous area. On arrival we cleaned for 3 hours. Food residue in cutlery draw. Work tops dirty. All door handles dirty and full of ingrained grime. Rugs filthy and smell was awful. Soft furnishings all in need of a wash. The most spectacular display of undisturbed cobwebs I have ever seen. I could go on...... This cottage needs love and a good clean

Hi Rachel - thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback but we're sorry to hear your experience at Penmorfa wasn't to the standard we expect it to be left for our guests. Since your stay we have made lots of improvements. At the time of your stay we had just changed our cleaners but having had poor reviews such as yours we very quickly changed again and brought in a new cleaning company who are doing brilliant changeovers and leaving Penmorfa in a lovely condition for guests to enjoy and to a standard we are happy with. The broken gate has been fixed and the steps recemented. The paintwork has been touched up throughout the property and whilst we're not yet in a position to refit a new 2nd bathroom we have created more of a utility area and fitted a new towel rail - also in the main family bathroom too. In addition, we've fitted brand new radiators throughout the property and have just had new internal doors installed. I'm confident that if you booked another stay at Penmorfa your experience would be very different and do hope you will consider this. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed at various times in Sykes cottages…Garden Cottage in Ludlow several times and Tudor House in Montacute once, each time the property has been immaculately presented and very clean."

We have also rented in Aldeburgh many times and each time, except once, the properties have been excellent…..and the one that wasn’t so good was still clean. Penmorfa inside is well worn and superficially cleanish, it needs to be redecorated. The kitchen equipment was good. The furniture in the main room is well worn. The bedroom was OK, but we don’t like brown sheets too much and when the bed was stripped at the end of our stay we didn’t like the stained undercover at all! Outside is work in progress! We left on Thursday afternoon ….. it was not tempting to say longer. The village and the surrounding area, the walks, the views and the bird life are wonderful and we would return, just not to Penmorfa!

Hi Paul - thank you for taking time to leave feedback but sorry to hear you didn't find Penmorfa to the standard we expect it to be left for our guests. At the time of your stay we had just changed our cleaner but unfortunately this did not turn out to be a good move for the reasons you have mentioned, we very quickly changed to a different cleaning company who are fantastic and carrying out thorough and clean changeovers for our guests, using the property's own clean bedding. We've made other improvements since your stay which have included repainting, new bedroom furniture, new radiators and towel rails throughout, new light fittings, new internal doors, improvements to the front decking area and steps and a regular gardener to ensure the front and back garden are kept well maintained. We are proud owners of Penmorfa and like to think guests arrive to a standard we would expect for ourselves, I'm confident with these improvements and our new cleaners this would be the case. • "This is a beautiful cottage, it was spotlessly clean but felt so homely and comfortable that we were able to totally relax."

It was very well equipped and had everything we could ask for including some extra touches that made it feel like home-from-home. The location is fantastic, we loved the close proximity of the beach and enjoyed the walk around Dinas Head. We would definitely recommend this property to our family and friends and will hopefully be back ourselves sometime in the future.

Hi James - thank you for your feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay. The views from the walk around Dinas Head are just breathtaking aren't they?! Hope to see you visit again soon! Property Owner

  • "The location of the cottage was amazing, being so close to 2 lovely beaches."

The slope up was very steep but we know it would be. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The front and rear garden were a bit of a let down, the double room smelt very very damp and the kick boards in the kitchen kept falling off. We had a lovely stay but the cottage needs a little bit of up tlc.

Hi Cheryl - thank you for your feedback. Since your stay we have redone the front garden to create a relaxing decking area with seating to enjoy lovely sea views - perfect after a long day on the beach or walking. We also have a regular gardener to keep the front/back gardens well maintained. We've fitted new radiators throughout and heated towel rails in both bathrooms so the cold/damp is no longer a problem. We hope you'll be back to visit soon! Property Owner

  • "We are so disappointed with the inside of the property should have been 4 of us but only 2 which we were grateful for as the second bathroom was not very good state."

Most doors wouldn't shut properly rugs were grubby and dirty. settee was dirty and dusty, weeds growing on patio at back no table and chairs at front as advertised on pictures. The electric boxes on bed room wall buzzing all night. Plinth in kitchen falling down all time. Windows in front room no keys to unlock. Patio doors could not be locked. Taps were moving. No mop to clean floors.hoover tube was split so you couldnt hoover trying to hold the metal tube inside the hoover tube. Really disappointed I notice next year its 2000 grand a week !!!

Hi Joan - thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. Sorry to hear Penmorfa wasn't left to a standard we would expect for our guests. Since your stay we have fitted new internal doors, replaced rugs, refitted electrics, installed new light fittings, repainted, fixed the taps and patio door, installed new bedroom furniture and bedding, replaced cleaning equipment, improved the front decking area with seating and have a regular gardener. Unfortunately we cannot leave keys for the large windows in the lounge since they could be a safety hazard when open fully. The smaller windows in the lounge are able to be opened however. I am confident that if you visited Penmorfa now you would have a very different experience. Property Owner

Not sure if it's due to lockdown issues but some of paintwork etc getting a bit tired and just needs refresh but understand why winter maintenance may have been an issue. Needs a real deep clean quite a few cobwebs etc but that is cleaning co not owners or something you can do remotely. We would visit again and loved the area

The property

This lovely colonial house, with contemporary features, has great sea views and is in a quiet location just 150 yards from the beach at Cwm yr Eglwys.

Both Fishguard Bay and Newport Bay can be seen from the bungalow. Cwm yr Eglwys - Valley of the Church - takes its name from the ruins of St Brynach’s church, which was destroyed over time by storms.

The hamlet and its beach are at one end of Dinas Head, between Newport and Fishguard, on the north Pembrokeshire coast.

It is a perfect spot for children to enjoy and from where to walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. From the property, you can walk around Dinas Head, which has been voted an AA Walk of the Year, or you can walk through woodland behind the headland to another beach at Pwllgwaelod, just half a mile away.

There, as well as the beach, you will find The Old Sailors pub and restaurant. Nearby Dinas Cross has two pubs, two shops, a garage and a fish & chip shop.

There is also a children’s play area and at the further end of the village, a tearoom. A short drive will take you to the seaside market town of Newport, which has a selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants, as well as local shops and galleries and a weekly local producers market.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
